My adaption

• I decided to adapt the Film Brave into a TV program, set out like a realistic drama within Scotland.

• I picked this to adapt because the film presents a range of narrative threads and strong themes to explore.

• Also the film has a very good narrative, following the Merida path through life as she is being made to get married. I felt from this I could go down a range of different paths , considering Merida as the main character.

Genre and Narrative

• The original genres of brave are animation, adventure and comedy, but in my adaption Auburn I have planned to change the main component of animation into a realistic drama, however I would still keep the elements of adventure and comedy the same.

• The outline of my story is about a teenager girl who lives in a small village in Scotland with her parents and brothers, who are apparently living next door to witch. The family is quite poor surviving off very little every day. Until one day when the witch approaches Merida’s mother Lara promises a bag full of coins in exchange that Merida marries her son.

• Similar to the original adaption I will be adding the elements of archery, adventure and also the idea of a bond between mother and daughter, questioning how far she will go?

Constraints and Opportunities

• The Constraints highlighted referring to my Adaption were that rights will need to brought from the company Disney in order to modify the story.

• Also another constraint is that the original story of brave was targeted at a younger audience based on the animation element, whereas I plan to target my adaption auburn at an older female audience aged between 15-25 based on the violence element.

• Overall by changing the target audience I may lose audiences and fans of the story but on the other hand I may also gain audiences and fans via the themes/genres.

Target audience

• My core audience I believe would be females aged between 15-25 based on that the drama genre within the adaption and also how the main character is female which I believe will be very relatable and significant to this type of audience base on events and themes.

• I feel my secondary audience would be Archery lovers as within the original film brave this sport highlighted, so within my adaption I am certainly going to add this aspect in order to engage sports fans.

Cinematic Ideas

Within my adaption I changed the aspect of animation into realistic drama.
