HARRIS

I have chosen a variety of names to be the masthead of my school magazine. These names are shortened down to represent Harris Crystal Palace school and sixth form, not the federation. The names are engaging and catchy for a school magazine as the magazine has to be informative and formal language, therefore the names should be appropriate yet linking to the school name. This then gives me the idea on how to structure the name such as what font size, what type of typography should be used and also the colour. The name should be short and modern to attract the target audience.

The moodboard shows various ideas of fonts that can give me an immediate indication on what type of font to use for my front cover magazine. The fonts shown on the moodboard are serifs typefaces, the are known for the features at the ends of their strokes. Serif fonts are probably the most used class in printed materials, including most books, newspapers and magazines. Sans serif typefaces fonts are commonly but not exclusively used for display typography such as signage, headings, and other circumstances challenging legibility. They are clear yet easier to read as they give direct gaze and attention. Script typefaces reproduce handwriting or calligraphy, they are typically used for logos or invitations.

The type of font I choose will signify the magazine and also represent it through out the whole magazine. For a good school, sophisticated, professional, bold yet clear font should be used to get direct gaze and the choice of font will be noticeable and recognized. Serif font cant also give sophistication and modern effects to the Masthead title. Using this type of font may attract the target audiences however sans serif font is eye catching yet in blocks which may not look to sophisticated as we need a font to symbolize Harris Academy Crystal Palace. Since Harris is a well known and has high level of education, the font choice will be simple yet modern. The fonts below show similar examples of what I will use on my front cover of the school magazine as it looks professional.

The moldboard shows various school magazines created by students. The mood board allows me to think of ideas that will help me consider how my school magazine would look, what effects and colours would look appropriate as well as how to make it look more realistic. They are examples of school magazines which have been created and this will help me pick out parts of the magazines that I will develop making it look even better and appealing to the audience.

Colour Scheme

The choice of colours that would be used through out the magazine will be similar to the Harris Academy Crystal Palace logo. The colours used to represent this school is Green, yellow and white. I have coordinated the colours to the colour wheel which will help me precisely choose what colours should be used when creating the font. The colour scheme will stay the same throughout the magazine to make it look more professional and not dazzle the readers.

I have chosen various images to be included in my magazine because they are representing the schools image and their expectations. The images I have taken are mostly close up, mid shot and full shot to get direct gaze and engage the audience to directly look at the mode of address. I have chosen students of various ages as the magazine is targeted to different age ranges of both genders. The magazine will include stories of both secondary students and sixth form. I will be choosing one of these images to be on the front cover of my magazine because they are well presented with positive facial expression which can give the readers a sense of community and belonging. The students are well presented by the correct uniform they are wearing as well as looking sophisticated. The uniform and Id cards is representing the school.
