Ancient Art - refers to the many types of art produced by the advanced cultures of ancient societies with some form of

writing, such as those of ancient China, India, Mesopotamia, Persia, Israel, Egypt, Greece and Rome.

In the history of art, prehistoric art is all art produced in preliterate, prehistorical cultures beginning somewhere in

very late geological history, and generally continuing until that culture either develops writing or other methods of record-keeping, or makes significant contact with another culture that has, and that makes some record of major historical

events.

The Venus of Hohle Fels is an Upper Paleolithic Venus

figurine hewn from ivory of a mammoth tusk. It is dated to between 35,000 and 40,000

years ago,

LION MAN OF THE HOHLENSTEIN STADEL

A lion-headed figure, first called the lion man is an ivory sculpture that is both the oldest known zoomorphic

(animal-shaped) sculpture in the world, and the oldest known

uncontested example of figurative art yet discovered. The figurine was determined to be about 40,000

years.
