What is Affiliate Marketing

• “A way for a company to sell its products by signing up individuals or companies ("affiliates") who market the company's products for a commission” (Entrepreneur, n.d., para. 1).

Why be an Affiliate Marketer

• “Affiliate marketing is probably one of the quickest and cheapest (not the easiest) ways to start making money online as you don’t have to create any products yourself. You simply link up a buyer and a seller, and you take a commission on the sale that has been referred by you” (tipsandtricks-hq.com, 2014, para. 7).

Types of Affiliate Pay Models

Model Description

• Pay Per Click (PPC) • Merchant pays the affiliate based on the number of clicks that are sent to the Merchant’s site from the Affiliate, regardless if a sale is made or not

• Cost Per Action (CPA) • Merchant pays the Affiliate based on the specific action taken by a visitor to the Merchant’s website (play a game, free software trials, & more)

• Pay Per Sale (PPS) or Cost Per Sale (CPS)

• Merchant pays the affiliate a percentage of the sale price

• Pay Per Lead (PPL) • Merchant pays the Affiliate per lead or when the new visitor provides the Merchant with his / her contact information
