This genealogy summer school offers
a complete course in the latest Irish
genealogy research, as one would expect
from a summer school held in UCC,
one of the world’s leading universities.
All aspects of the subject are covered by a series of presentations
and ‘hands on’ workshops given by a selection of Ireland’s leading
genealogical lecturers and experts. The latest online and offline
sources are described and explained in presentations which will
be of great interest to the seeker of Irish roots and family history,
whether beginner or expert.

of Irish roots and family history. It is suitable for genealogy
enthusiasts.
Thankfully, it is not all work. A number of trips are offered
featuring sites and locations in Waterford, Dungarvan and
Youghal. Not forgetting, optional evening tours to sites of interest
in Cork itself, ‘the Venice of Ireland’, Blarney Castle and the
harbour town of Kinsale.

Today we learn about and use Irish census and BMD records, as well as important background knowledge of how Irish society was organised spatially and thus how its genealogy records are arranged for access. Lorna Moloney is the coordinator of the Irish Genealogy Summer School at University College Cork called Ancestral Connections: Names, Places & Spaces. This will be held in Cork with fieldtrips to Waterford, Youghal and Dungarvan for 2014. The School will run from the 29th June to the 6th July 2014. See http://www.ucc.ie/en/ace-genealogy/
Lorna Moloney coordinates the Springboard programmes for Adult Continuing Education (ACE) in University College Cork. She assists in Executive programmes, and Continued Professional Development. The Springboard HEA initiative offers free, part time courses at Certificate, Degree and Masters Level. Springboard works to supply skillsets and qualifations in demand for employment.
Lorna Moloney’s thesis, ‘Conquered lands – the Anglicisation of MacNamaras Clare, 1259-1603’, is being supervised by Professor Steven Ellis. Her academic profile can viewed at http://nuigalway.academia.edu/LornaMoloney. She has delivered conference papers at Oxford, Lincoln College, Exploration of the Medieval Gaelic Diet (2012), seminar papers at the Moore Institute in NUI Galway, ‘The Gaelic Lordships in Thomond, c. 1400-c.1500’ and papers at Irish Conference of Medievalists on themes of Brian Boru and landscape of East Clare. Lorna has published on medieval themes and on maritime subjects.
Lorna is a member of the Association of Professional Genealogists and is the resident genealogist for Dromoland Castle in County Clare.
Lorna is involved with East Clare Heritage, (12th century Romanesque church: St Cronins). She is a member of CIGO (Council of Irish Genealogical Organisations. She holds membership of Medium Aevum at Oxford University: The Society for the Study of Medieval Languages and Literature. Lorna holds membership of The Heraldic Society inthe UK.
