A Applied Linguistics publishes research into

language with relevance to real-world problems. The journal is keen to help make connections between fields, theories, research methods, and scholarly discourses, and welcomes contributions which critically reflect on current practices in applied linguistic research.

It promotes scholarly and scientific discussion of issues that unite or divide scholars in applied linguistics. It is less interested in the ad hoc solution of particular problems and more interested in the handling of problems in a principled way by reference to theoretical studies.

AThe MLJ is devoted to research and discussion about the learning and teaching of foreign and second languages. The Journal strives to maintain a balance of languages represented in each issue. Types of articles published include essays and research studies, using quantitative and qualitative methodologies. Each regular issue of the MLJ contains about 160 pages, which include 5–7 articles, Reviews, and News and Notes of the Profession. Issues 2 and 4 include a column Perspectives in which authors discuss timely issues of concern to the profession of second language learning and teaching. Issue 3 includes an overview of Dissertations published in that year. Special issues appear on occasion.

B English For Specific Purposes is an international peer-reviewed journal that welcomes submissions from across the world.

Authors are encouraged to submit articles and research/discussion notes on topics relevant to the teaching and learning of discourse for specific communities: academic, occupational, or otherwise specialized.

Topics such as the following may be treated from the perspective of English for specific purposes: second language acquisition in specialized contexts, needs assessment, curriculum development and evaluation, materials preparation, discourse analysis, descriptions of specialized varieties of English, teaching and testing techniques, the effectiveness of various approaches to language learning and language teaching, and the training or retraining of teachers for the teaching of ESP.

In addition, the journal welcomes articles and discussions that identify aspects of ESP needing development, areas into which the practice of ESP may be expanded, possible means of cooperation between ESP programs and learners' professional or vocational interests, and implications that findings from related disciplines can have for the profession of ESP.

The journal also carries reviews of scholarly books on topics of interest to the profession.

BThe Journal of Second Language

Writing is devoted to publishing theoretically grounded reports of research and discussions of central issues in second and foreign language writing and writing instruction. Some areas of interest are personal characteristics and attitudes of L2 writers, L2 writers' composing processes, features of L2 writers' texts, readers' responses to L2 writing, assessment/evaluation of L2 writing, contexts (cultural, social, political, institutional) for L2 writing, and any other topic clearly relevant to L2 writing and/or writing instruction.

C Foreign Language Annals (FLA) is the official journal

of the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL). The first volume of FLA was published in 1967. FLA is a refereed journal published four times per year. There are approximately 10 articles per issue.

Dedicated to the advancement of language teaching and learning, the journal seeks to serve the professional interests of classroom instructors, researchers, and administrators concerned with the learning and teaching of languages at all levels of instruction.

The journal welcomes submissions of the highest quality that report empirical or theoretical research on language learning or teaching, that describe innovative and successful practice and methods, and/or that are relevant to the concerns and issues of the profession.

FLA focuses primarily on language education for languages other than English.  The journal welcomes manuscripts on a wide variety of topics including cross-disciplinary submissions that provide clear implications for teaching, learning, and/or research in the language field. Authors must be members of ACTFL.
