POWER GENERATION

Electromagnetic induction is the heart of electric power generation, transmission and

distribution.

POWER GENERATIONPower generation has become the heart of all those that gave us convenience in our

daily living. On the other hand, it also ignited the

dramatic increase in the human’s need for energy which started way back during the

so-called Industrial Revolution.Where do our electrical energy and power

are coming from? Are these sources enough to sustain our needs today and in the coming future?

POWER GENERATION

This is an example of where we get our electrical energy & power…

POWER GENERATIONWhat are these generating facilities?

The Philippines has several sources of electrical power generating facilities. They can

be out of our natural resources such as waterfalls, wind, solar, geothermal and many

others. Each of these sources had become the heart of every region in the country.

Any stoppage in their operations would mean energy shortage; and would result to energy

crises. As expected, brownouts and black-outs will happen which will create a great effect and

impact in our economy.

POWER GENERATIONPhilippines has more or less the following

sources of electrical energy and power plants:

1. Hydroelectric Power Plant2. Geothermal Power Plant3. Gas Turbine Power Plant4. Oil Powered Plant5. Diesel Power Plant6. Coal Fired Power Plant7. Natural Gas Fueled Power Plant

Each of power plants are the major source of electricity in each region.

POWER GENERATIONAccording to the Department of Energy, aside

from the existing hydroelectric plants the contribute roughly 3974 megawatts of electrical energy to the main grid, the

untapped hydropower potential of country could still generate another 13097 megawatts.

As of 2003, the total installed capacity of geothermal power plants in the country is 1931 megawatts and an untapped potential of about

2600 megawatts.

POWER TRANSMISSION

Other sources of electrical energy include the fossil fuels like coal, oil, diesel, or

natural gas.

They are burned in fossil fuel-fired thermal power plants to generate heat

which in turn, run the turbine to generate electricity.

POWER GENERATIONOur country’s electrical energy and power sources as of today are not yet enough to cover necessity and needs of the country.

There is still a need to discover more resources.

Other agencies are still conducting researches to tap sources that are

considered renewable such solar, wind, waves, tides and the possibilities on

nuclear power source.
