Under the best of circumstances, making financial decisions can be stressful. With the turbulence the U.S. economy has experienced over the past few months, it makes sense to get professional guidance to help make informed decisions about taking care of your money and navigating your financial future. Fortunately, there’s no shortage of experts available to aid in that process – there are over 1,000 financial professionals in Connecticut alone, from brokers to investment advisers to financial planners. The real trick is finding a good one who is right for you.

Enter The Winner’s Circle, a research organization created by former financial adviser R.J. Shook, who has been researching the top financial advisers in the nation for more than a decade. His group annually rates the best advisers in the nation, including the top 50 here in Connecticut which it compiled exclusively for this magazine.

As the business environment becomes increasingly global and investment alternatives become more plentiful and complex, many individual investors seek to partner with a professional financial consultant to develop and execute an investment strategy geared to meeting their individual wealth accumulation objectives in a manner consistent with their risk tolerance profile.

Robert Casey has been working with affluent individuals and their families for over 30 years to structure diversified stock portfolios designed to help achieve their financial investment objectives. Together, they formulate a plan, considering the need to generate income, minimize taxes, protect principal and generate capital appreciation. Importantly, Mr. Casey continually measures his performance, and periodically reviews the objectives, adjusting the plan to accommodate changing needs.

How does working with you and RBC Wealth Management help a client meet investment objectives?

With over 30 years as a financial consultant, I joined RBC Wealth Management in 2005 to offer my clients an unparalleled opportunity to combine my experience and expertise with an industry leader in diversified financial services. At RBC Wealth Management, I am providing my clients with a comprehensive range of financial resources to meet their long-term investment objectives.

What makes you different than other financial consultants?

I don’t try to be all things to all people. Rather, I focus my attention on understanding the equity markets and how to identify opportunities for capital appreciation potential, attractive dividend yield and tax optimization. In addition, I never hesitate to advise my clients to do nothing – sometimes one’s objectives are best met by being on the sidelines since ready cash, immediately accessible to deploy into future opportunities, is a critical component of one’s portfolio.

Doesn’t it cost more to work with a full service investment firm?

Not necessarily. I offer very competitive commission rates, generally based on trade size. Moreover, I do not choose to utilize asset-based accounts with annual fees based on the size of your portfolio. Most importantly, while investment returns cannot be guaranteed, over the years my clients generally have found that any fee differential is inconsequential when compared to the tradeoff between working with a financial professional and going it alone in trying to achieve investment returns.
