Celebration of World Egg Day at Bhubaneswar

The regional level World Egg Day was celebrated in Bhubaneswar on 9th October, 2015. A

function was organized at 9.00 A.M. at Kalinga Stadium. Colored balloons were released by Hon'ble M.P.,

Shri Prasanna Patasani in presence of Hon'ble Minister, Agriculture, F & ARD; Commissioner -cum-

Secretary, F & ARD; Director, AH & VS and other departmental officers along with Shri H.M. Das,

Shri A.K. Sharda and other members of Odisha Poultry Association.

Shri Pradeep Maharathy, Hon'ble Minister said that egg is a popular food and rich in nutrients. The

Commissioner –cum- Secretary spoke about the nutritive value of the egg and its importance for

maintaining better health of human being. World Egg Day is celebrated every year on the second Friday in

the month of October. On World Egg Day, events are held across the world celebrating the usefulness of

egg. The first World Egg Day was celebrated in the year 1996 and since then we have seen a variety of

wonderful events taking place across the World, he stated. He also expressed happiness as the Day was

being celebrated in all District headquarters of the State to popularize egg consumption. Debate, essay

competitions were being conducted among school children at District level for creating awareness on

eggs in daily life. Twenty poultry hatcheries set up under SGSY infrastructure fund were made functional

for production and supply of chicks used for backyard poultry farming on the day. Shri H. M. Dash,

President, Odisha Poultry Association also spoke about the World Egg Day. On the eve of celebration of

World Egg Day, boiled eggs were distributed.

A signature campaign was made to commemorate of World Egg Day celebration and to popularize

the consumption of egg. Hundreds of delegates participated in signature campaign. The program was

coordinated by Dr. Basudev Sunani, Joint Director-II, Veterinary officer Training Institute, Bhubaneswar.

Regional Poultry Conference at Hotel the New Marrion

The Department of Fisheries & Animal Resources Development in collaboration with

Odisha Poultry Association organized a Regional Poultry Conference on the eve of World Egg

Day on 9the October, 2015 at Hotel the New Marrion, Bhubaneswar.

Shri Pradeep Maharathy, Hon'ble Minister, Agriculture, F & ARD ceremonially

inaugurated the Conference by lighting the lamp in presence of Shri Gokul Chandra Pati, Chief

Secretary; Shri Bishnupada Sethi, Commissioner-cum-Secretary, F & ARD; Dr. P. Blahwar, Joint

Commissioner, DAHD&F, GoI; Shri Debi Prasad Panda, Director, AH & VS and Dr. Uma

Shankar Patro, Joint Director – I, AH & VS.

At the outset, Shri Sethi welcomed all guests & participants to the workshop. In his

welcome address he stated that Odisha was a pioneer State to have announced a comprehensive

Poultry Policy. He emphasized that no other sector had grown like poultry sector in Odisha,

which recorded an annual growth rate of about 26% since 2008-09. To encourage this sector

Govt. of Odisha have taken a number of initiatives for poultry development in the State. The

State Govt. have declared agriculture status to poultry since 2005, enhanced upper cap of

capital investment subsidy to ̀ 75.00 lakhs for commercial layer, provision of reimbursement of

VAT on maize & broken rice used for poultry feed etc. The State has set a goal to achieve 100 lakh

eggs/ day and 100 TMT poultry meat production per day. The new Poultry Policy focuses not

only on the commercial poultry but also rightly on the backyard poultry. He also elaborated

various incentives under new Poultry Policy, which have been announced. He has expressed

his satisfaction for the overwhelming response from the new comers to start poultry farming

after provision of Upper cap of `75.00 lakh for establishment of poultry layer farm. He

expressed that the day-long deliberations would certainly enable the State Govt. to roll out the

new Poultry Policy effectively. He thanked the Govt. of India for selecting Odisha to hold

Eastern Regional Celebration on the eve of World Egg Day.

The Hon'ble Minister released the Odisha Bovine Breeding Policy, Odisha Poultry Policy

and Poultry Entrepreneurs' Profile.

Dr. P. Blahwar congratulated the State Govt. & Odisha Poultry Association for organizing

the regional poultry conference. This year, World Egg Day was being organized in four regions

i.e. Vizag, Lucknow, Pune & Bhubaneswar. He observed that formulation of a new poultry

policy & compilation of poultry entrepreneurs profile were very remarkable achievements.

Shri Gokul Chandra Pati, IAS, Chief Secretary, Govt. of Odisha appreciated the

initiatives taken by F&ARD Department & Poultry Association for organizing the regional

conference at a right time, which would immensely help the State to roll out the Odisha Poultry

Policy, 2015 announced recently. This sector plays a vital role not only in reducing the protein

deficiency but also creating a lot of employment opportunities for poor & marginalized section.

He advised for maintaining bio-security & bio- safety while setting up more layer units &

undertaking expansion of the existing poultry units. He also emphasized on skill up gradation

of the persons engaged in poultry farming activities. Compartmentalization of poultry units

should be practiced to prevent spread of infection in the wake of any disease outbreak. He also

expected the Bankers to liberally finance the poultry entrepreneurs. He suggested the

Department to sensitize the entrepreneurs about the harmful effects of unhealthy practices and

feeding harmful ingredients, which create hazards. Such unhealthy practices may jeopardize

the growth of Poultry industry. He also advised for maintaining Bio-security and Bio-safety

measures at farm level to prevent and contain poultry diseases.

contribution for development poultry sector in the State. They are:

Dr. Harmohan Dash & Shri Prakash Rout complimented the support given to poultry

entrepreneurs by Odisha Government. However, they requested to consider for provision of

input subsidy on maize & Soya.

Hon'ble Minister highlighted nutritional benefit derived from egg. He was extremely

pleased about the organization of Regional Conference comprising four States namely, Odisha,

Chhatisgarh, West Bengal & Jharkhand. He spoke that Odisha, West Bengal and Chhatisgarh

together contribute 13% of total egg production in country. He viewed that Eastern region

States had ample scope for Poultry development & the new policy would enable to achieve the

goal of producing 100 lakh eggs per day to make the State self sufficient in egg production. As

per new poultry policy, more incentives like exemption of stamp duty on purchase of land,

Exemption of conversion charges for conversion of agriculture land to homestead land for

Poultry Farms and Feed Mixing Plant catering to the exclusive need of poultry farm to consider

as a captive unit and lease of Government land for poultry farms were available. He appealed

the entrepreneurs to take full advantage of Poultry Policy.

The workshop was attended by more than 200 participants including existing

entrepreneurs of Odisha. Besides this, representative of financial institutions, Central Avian

Research Institute, Central Poultry Development Organization, College of Veterinary Science &

Animal Husbandry, Line departments, eastern region states Chhattisgarh, West Bengal and

Jharkhand also attended the workshop.

Technical Session-I: The session was chaired by Prof (Dr.) Sarat Mishra and Dr. Tapan Beura was the

Rapporteur. Five presentations were made during the session.

Presentation – 1: The presentation was made by Dr. G.K. Tripathy, DD, DAH & VS on New

Poultry Policy. He presented on the present status of poultry sector in Odisha along with the

features of new poultry policy notified recently. The new policy is a comprehensive one which

envisages both commercial and backyard poultry development in the state. He discussed about

the various policy incentives available under new Poultry Policy.

Presentation – 2: The presentation was made by Dr. C. Raha, DAH & VS, WB on Status of

Poultry Development in West Bengal. He presented about the scope of poultry farming in West

Bengal. He spoke about the local poultry germ-plasms such as ASIC as an important one and

steps being taken up for phenotypic characterization. West Bengal Govt. is giving 40% capital

Investment Subsidy. The engagement of women vaccinators for poultry vaccination in the rural

areas is a very successful intervention. He also informed that West Bengal Govt. was also taking

up Training and awareness of farmers involved in poultry farming.

Presentation – 3: The presentation was made by Dr. B. Piley, DAH & VS, Chhatisgarh on Status

of Poultry Development in Chhatisgarh. He presented about the poultry development

initiatives taken up by the Directorate of AH & VS, Chhatisgarh. He told that the backyard

poultry population comprises 35% of the total poultry population in the state. The department is

taking up steps to supply coloured day old chicks like RIR/ Vanaraja/ Gramapriya etc.

Presentation – 4: The presentation was made by Dr. Samir Saha, DAH & VS, Jharkhand on the

status of Poultry Development in Jharkhand. He gave a presentation regarding status of poultry

in Jharkhand state. They have given agriculture status to poultry since 2009. The department has

promoted 1000 broiler units of 400 bird capacity through SHGs and there is provision of 50%

subsidy for setting up these units.

Presentation-5: The presentation was made by Dr. Rudra Mohan Pradhan, Consultant, OLM on

Livelihood through backyard Poultry under Odisha Livelihood Mission. He gave a

presentation on livelihood support though backyard poultry under Odisha Livelihood Mission.

The area of operation is 68 GPs and 14 Blocks in 4 districts. He shared that 3967 women are

covered and survival rate is 87%. The average egg production is 97 nos. per bird per annum in

3967 units with total bird capacity of 37617 hens, set up in backyard sector resulting in 36 lakh

additional egg production per year.

Technical Session-II: The session was chaired by Prof (Dr.) Prasanna Mishra, and Dr. J.R. Patnaikand was the

Rapporteur. Four presentations were made during the session.

Presentation – 1: The presentation was made by Dr. A.G. Rao on 'Disease Challenge in Poultry

Industry and Solutions'. He narrated that global competition, emergence of new and

unforeseen diseases and food safety are major challenges for the poultry Industry. Poultry

diseases will remain a major challenge to the industry. Once an outbreak of a given disease

occurs, it can explode into an epidemic and may have a significant negative effect on trade in a

specific country, a continent or even globally.Emerging diseases in poultry like Chicken Anaemia Virus (CAV), Infectious Bursal

Disease (IBD), Avian Influenza (AI), Marek's Disease (MD), Myelocytomatosis (ALV-J), Fowl

Adenoviruses (EDS, IBH, HHPS), Reo-viruses are seen. He suggested for proper Avian

Influenza surveillance and availability of diagnostic facilities by strengthening Laboratories

and emphasized upon Food safety measures particularly relating to diseases of zoonotic

importance which are to be carried out. He told that Problems related to food safety due to

infections with different Salmonella serovars and Campylobacter sps, which are the leading

cause of zoonotic enteric infections worldwide, are to be taken care of. Since these are mainly

transmitted by contaminated food, good hygienic practice protocols should be prepared and

strictly followed in all stages of production. Effective bio-security measures like vaccination,

medication, nutrition, environmental cause and disinfection should be ensured in commercial

farms.

Presentation -2: The presentation was made by Dr. B. S. Rao on Opportunities in Poultry

Farming. He emphasized on production of organic poultry meat which can fetch higher price to

the producers. Transporting the poultry products from rural area and to market at urban areas

is problem in Odisha. Proper storage facility and infrastructures and minimum support price

for poultry product is necessary. Cold storage centre should be constructed by involving

private people. He also suggested for dividing the state into 5 zones and to fix a target for

backyard poultry development. The products can be marketed in urban area by involving

private players.

Presentation-3: The presentation was made by Dr. Vidyasagar Punja, GM, Eastern Hatchery on rd

Role of eggs in human nutrition. He spoke that India ranked 3 in egg production in the world

but consumption was much low compared to other developed countries. He told that egg was a

complete food having all nutrition such as protein, vitamin and the cheapest source of protein.

He compared egg with vegetable protein i.e. kidney bean and opined that in order to get the

protein available in two eggs, which cost ̀ 9/- the same amount of protein can be availed from

kidney bean by spending ̀ 50/-. He viewed that egg is a vegetarian food as chicken are fed with

vegetarian feeds.

Presentation-4: The presentation was made by Shri A.K Sharda on Poultry Entrepreneurship in

Odisha, Scope and Opportunity. He appreciated the initiatives taken by Odisha Government to

create an enabling environment for Poultry Entrepreneurship. He said that Odisha achieved

8.78% GDP growth during 2014-15, 20% higher than India's GDP growth rate, and is poised to

grow at around 12% by year 2020. Poultry contributes to 15% of total food energy and 5% of

dietary protein. Poultry Industry growth rate is 10%-12% per annum compared to a National

GDP growth rate of around 7%. India is the 3rd largest producer of eggs with annual production thof 57 billion eggs & 5 largest producer of poultry meat with a production of 2.5 million tonnes of

Poultry meat. 100 % FDI is permitted in food processing sector which includes Poultry. He

pointed out that one time booster of ̀ 75 lakh subsidy for commercial Layer has added almost 10

lacs Birds in one year. He felt that bridging consumption gaps between NIN/ NAC

recommended 180 eggs & 11kg per year per capita when compared with current consumption

patterns (52 Eggs & 2.5 kg of poultry meat) presents huge opportunity. Matching of

recommended standards in egg and meat consumption has the potential to create 10 million

jobs in the country.

Technical Session-III:The session was chaired by Dr. Kornel Das and Dr. Durga Prasad Das was the

Rapporteur. Five presentations were made during the session.

Presentation–1: The presentation was made by Dr. P.K. Mohapatra, APICOL on Incentives for

poultry farming in Odisha. He narrated the steps for availing Capital Investment Subsidy under

State Agriculture Policy, 2013. He also spoke about pattern of assistance and type of poultry

entrepreneurship such as Commercial Layer Unit, Commercial Broiler Unit, Commercial

Breeder Farm and Hatchery, Commercial Duck Unit, Integrated Duck Farming, Establishment

of Poultry feed plant, Meat Processing unit which are allowed under SAP, 2013. The

entrepreneur should get minimum income of 10% of Project Cost of Rs. 2.00 lakh per annum

from the project.

Presentation – 2: The presentation was made by Dr. Surya K Mishra, Head, CARI on Scope of

Duck Farming in Odisha. He gave a presentation on the advantages of Duck farming. He told

that the egg size is bigger in ducks and they give more no. of eggs (around 300) than hens. The

vaccines like duck plague and duck cholera are easily available which can be used for

vaccinating the ducks. He expressed his concern about private entrepreneurs not taking up

duck farming in commercial basis. He emphasized upon improving awareness about the

nutritional aspect of duck eggs and marketing avenues for duck farming by the poultry

entrepreneurs and Govt. Duck farming is very ideal for Odisha eco-system.

Presentation -3: The presentation was made by Dr. B. K. Mallik, CPDO, Bhubaneswar on Scope

of Quail farming in Eastern region. He told that Japanese quail are resistant to disease and the

egg production is about 300 eggs per year. He discussed in detail about housing, care &

management, feeding and disease management in Quail farming. Quail meat is low in

cholesterol and fat and it is a good food for infant, adult and old persons. The chicks are available

at CPDO, Bhubaneswar and it can be managed in cage houses. The floor space requirement is

only one sq. ft for 4-5 adult quail.

Presentation-4: The presentation was made by Dr. K.S. Grewal, KEGGs' Farm on successful

interventions in backyard sector through Kuroiler birds. He said that Poultry keeping in rural

area is a women centric activity. He emphasized that Kuroiler birds could be used as a tool to

achieve Women Empowerment, Poverty Alleviation and Food Security for the Rural Poor.

Kuroiler birds are cross of several genetically closed lines, which are acclimatized to Indian

tropical/ subtropical conditions and environment for several decades. It is a low input dual

purpose hardy breed with high productivity and desirable features of indigenous birds.

Kuroiler bird rearing can convert an incidental traditional household activity of village women

into a remunerative household activity. The organization is currently reaching over a million

households where, poultry rearing is a traditional activity. He presented the community based

delivery model which enables gains of modern science and technology to percolate down to

remote village households at the very bottom of the pyramid, through traditional practice of

village vending. During last five years Keggfarms and associated organizations have supplied

over 10 crores of Kuroiler birds in 19 States across India. He felt that Keggs farm can supply

Hatching Eggs, Day Old Chicks, and Parent Stock and 3 week old started Kuroilers along with

Technical and Training Support to beneficiaries, Mother Units, Hatcheries, Brooding Centres,

Parent Stock Operations. They are ready to Assist and advice in planning, implementation and

monitoring of rural poultry operations of Odisha Government and for supply of 3 week old

Kuroilers from mother units.

Presentation-5: Shri Prabin Nayak, Suguna made the presentation on Contract Broiler Farming

in the eastern region. He said that Suguna had started contract farming involving farmers to rear

birds in small scale in 1980. He narrated about the advantages of contract farming such as

providing regular employment, empowering farmers, discouraging migration to towns and

cities. Farmers can receive assistance at every step, ensuring that they are at zero risk with

regards to price fluctuations and market conditions. Farmers are constantly encouraged to

perform better with provision of incentives by the company. Farmers are provided with DOC,

feed and health support and the farm performance is monitored on a daily basis with Suguna th

field staff by checking the health of the birds, feed intake, growth and mortality levels. In 6

week, the birds are weighed and are ready to be sold by Suguna. Farmers are paid a handsome

growing charge for the birds at the end of this period. Thus, Suguna takes this successful model

to the next level of vision for energizing rural India benefiting the country, farmer and the

company. He also said that Suguna was operating with more than 500 farmers engaged in

broiler farming with 18% market share in the eastern region comprising West Bengal, Odisha,

Assam, Jharkhand and Bihar. In layer segment, Suguna has 25% market share. The company

has a plan to purchase industrial land at concession rate to be given for the purpose and to

double maize production per acre of land.

The valedictory session was held at 5.00 PM which was chaired by Commissioner -cum-

Secretary. The Director, AH&VS, Joint Director-I, AH&VS, Shri A.K. Sharada were present on

the dais.

The summary of the issues and suggestions are compiled as below:

· •Value addition of egg like egg powder, processed chickens can be explored.

•Unhealthy practice and feeding harmful ingredients are going to create hazard, for which farmers

need to be sensitized, otherwise the growth in sector could be jeopardized.

•Raising multi-species of poultry need to be carefully planned. OUAT, ICAR should make research

to develop viable breed for rearing in backyard.

•Skill up-gradation of poultry workers and farmers should be taken up at regular level. Poultry

Industry and Department need to take appropriate steps for training of farmers.

•Presently, two eggs per week/ student are supplied under MDM Scheme in Primary schools, which

should be enhanced to 4 eggs in a week. Eggs can also be given to lactating mothers, old age homes

and hospitals.

•Input subsidy on maize and soya, which are major constituent of Poultry feed may be considered.

•Duck farming requires low investment and locally available feeds can be used for feeding ducks.

Government support for duck farming may be given. Duck farming can be promoted in a larger

scale under different livelihood programs.

•One dedicated hatchery for production of ducklings in KBK should be operated.

•Vaccination for poultry should be done regularly. Community Vaccinators should be trained at

district level to ensure vaccination.

•Poultry Association is to be reorganized at district and State level and there should be continuous

interaction with all stakeholders.

•Pricing of poultry meat may be considered.

•Cold storage facility for keeping poultry egg and poultry meat produced in rural area for marketing

in urban areas.

•Poultry litter should be used as organic manure or renewable energy. Such possibilities need to be

explored through proper research by OUAT.

•Unhealthy practices, harmful ingredients in poultry feed should be checked.

•Bio-security and bio-safety should be followed in all poultry farms.

•Bankers should come forward for credit support as Poultry farming has lot of potentials in terms of

nutritional security and employment.

•Introduction of exotic birds in backyard sector should be done carefully and may be avoided in

tribal areas, where native breeds are available.

•In the District and State level coordination committee, one or two poultry entrepreneurs to

represent Poultry association should be included as members.

At the end Dr. Digambar Nayak, Deputy Director, poultry development extended the Vote of

thanks to all dignitaries & the participants.

District level

AngulDebate and Essay competition were organized in Angul Mahila Mahavidyalaya

amongst the +2 level students on 08.10.2015. The Principal of Mahila Mahavidyalay organized the competition on 'utility of egg in daily diet'. Three winners of the essay and debate competition were awarded with cash prize after the competition. A district level function was organized on 09.10.2015 at 10.00 AM in the District Training Centre, Angul to celebrate “World Egg Day”. Around 50 participants comprising Poultry Farmers, Students and local Veterinary Officers attended the function. 336 day old chicks were supplied to 7 farmers from Poultry hatchery, Angul on this day.

BaleshwarDebate and Essay competition on “Usefulness of eggs and human health” was held

amongst the High School students. The winners of the essay and debate competition were awarded with cash prize after the competition. A district level function was organized at Nilagiri which was inaugurated by Hon'be MLA Shri Sukanta Nayak on 09.10.2015 at 10.00 AM in the Poultry Hatchery, Nilagiri to celebrate “World Egg Day”. The Sub Collector, Nilagiri, Shri Dillip Parida attended the Meeting as the Guest of Honour. The hatchery was made functional. 800 day old chicks were supplied to 5 farmers from Poultry hatchery, Nilagiri. Two Poultry Layer Entrepreneurs were felicitated in the function.

A training programme was also organized on “Backyard Poultry Farming” where 70 SHG members attended.

BargarhAwareness programme was conducted at important places like Collectorate, Bus Stand,

Railway Station and other places to sensitize general public about the nutritive value of egg. Banners were displayed and leaflets were distributed. A voice message on benefits of egg was also sent to farmers in association with Reliance Information Service.

A district level function was organized where students, teachers, parents and Govt. officers attended. Essay competition on “Dainandina Jeebanare Andara Mahatwa” and Debate competition on “Is Egg Essential For Healthy Life” was organised at Vikash Residential School, Bargarh where the students from George High School, Town Girls High School, Kendriya Vidyalay, Vikash Residential school, Town Boys High School participated. The winners of the Debate and Essay competition were awarded with trophy, certificate and prize.

BhadrakThe world egg day was celebrated on 09.10.2015 in Bhadrak District. The Debate and

Essay Competition was organized among the School Students of Govt. Upgraded High School, st nd rdChunati. The winners were awarded with 1 , 2 and 3 prize for both Essay & Debate

Competition.

The District Level Officers of ARD Sector were attended the meeting and discussed about the importance of nutritional value of Egg in our daily diet. The students, teachers & PRI Members were present. The leaflets were distributed.

BolangirA district level function was organized on 09.10.2015 at LITC, Bolangir to celebrate

“World Egg Day”. Such function was also observed in Patnagarh and Titilagarh. An exhibition stall was arranged at LITC to display various Layer birds and Ducks.

A rally involving school students was organized in the morning to create awareness among people. Debate and Essay competition amongst school students were organized and successful six students were given prizes by the Chief Guest on the celebration day.

It was observed in the CDVO Office campus and District Collectorate and District Magistrate, Boudh was the Chief Guest in the Function. Professor of Botany, Boudh Panchayat College was invited as the Chief Speaker. Various speakers discussed about Egg and its importance in daily life, objectives of starting of dist. hatchery to produce and supply day old chicks.

In order to create awareness amongst the students at school level, a debate competition was organised both for senior & junior category at district level. The winners were awarded with cash prizes & trophies along with Certificates of merit, which was distributed by the Collector, Boudh. Banners were displayed in public places and the event was widely covered by the Media.

The poultry hatchery at Boudh was made functional and in first phase 2000 eggs were set on trial basis.

CuttackThe World Egg Day was celebrated in Cuttack District by organizing Debate competition

in five schools which includes Nodal School, High School, English Medium School & interior village schools on 08.10.2015 & 09.10.2015. The topic for speech completion was “Egg-Nutritious Food of Common Man”. Around 150 students were present and 20 students participated in the

st nd rdDebate competition. The Cash prize money of Rs.500/-, Rs.300/- & Rs.200/- for 1 , 2 & 3 positions respectively were given to students.

The participants as well as the teaching staff took keen interest and appreciated for organization of such type of event in their school. The leaflets & pamphlets were distributed among the participant supplied by the Department for onward circulation to make aware on the utility of egg in daily food as a pure, cheap & nutritious food compared to other nutritive food.

DeogarhA Debate competition on “Usefulness eggs in daily life” was organized amongst the

school students in District and Block level. Twelve winners of the competition were awarded with prizes. A district level function was organized in the afternoon to create awareness amongst the Poultry farmers.

DhenkanalWorld Egg Day at Dhenkanal was celebrated on 9.10.2015. It was observed inside the

Hatchery located in the CDVO Office campus and the District Collector and District Magistrate of Dhenkanal Mrs. Roopa Roshan Sahoo was the Chief Guest. The Project Director, Watershed was invited to be the Guest of Honour.

Discussion on utility of egg on day to day food requirement for nursing mother and growing baby were made by CDVO. PD, Watershed explained the economics of backyard poultry farming and assured to procure chicks from hatchery for distribution in watershed area. District Collector spoke about egg as a rich source of protein, vitamins and mineral. She expected that farmers to avail opportunity to undertake poultry farming in the backyard and in commercial scale. The hatchery at Dhenkanal was made operational. The World Egg Day was also observed in Hindol and Kamakhya Nagar where farmers and local PRI members were sensitized regarding importance of egg and poultry farming.

JajpurWorld Egg Day was celebrated in all 9 blocks of Jajpur District. Wide propaganda was

made at VD & LAC level by displaying the poster and banner. A District level function was celebrated to observe the World Egg Day. Essay and Debate competitions were held in schools to create awareness about benefit of consumption of egg. Prizes were distributed amongst the winner students.

JharsugudaWorld Egg Day was celebrated in Jharsuguda District. Flex banners and posters

containing the message on World Egg Day were displayed to create public awareness at important places.

Essay and Debate competition were held among the school children to create awareness about usefulness of egg in daily diet.

A District level function was celebrated at Govt. Girls High School, Jharsuguda at 3 PM on 9.10.2015 to observe the World Egg Day. The Sub-Collector, Jharsuguda graced the occasion as Chief Guest. The speakers spoke about the nutritional value of egg and requirement of different ingredients in daily diet. About 300 students participated in the function and boiled eggs were distributed to all students. Prizes were distributed to winner students in the function.

Kalahandi

World Egg Day at Kalahandi was celebrated at Veterinary Hospital, Junagarh on 9.10.

2015. The Sub-Collector Shri Vinit Vardwaj was the Chief Guest on the occasion. The meeting

was attended by farmers, school children and officials along with department staff. An awareness rally by school children was organized with banner and Placards with

slogans on importance of egg in human nutrition and its usefulness in daily diet was made in the town. The rally was inaugurated by Shri Vinit Vardwaj.

Debate and Essay competition on “Benefits of consuming egg” were organized at Junagarh Govt. High School where students from different school participated. The winners of the Debate and Essay competition were awarded with prizes. The primary school children were provided with egg in their MDM programme on 9.10.2015.

KandhamalOne new hatchery of 17200 chicks capacity started functioning at Balliguda of

Kandhamal District from 08.10.2015. Two days' training programme was conducted with 30 participants on Poultry Farming

that District Training Centre, Phulbani commencing from 9 October' 2015.

Thirty banners were displayed in different important places throughout the district for wide propaganda. Leaflets were distributed among the public through News Paper for awareness regarding World Egg Day. Rainbow Roster chicks were distributed among the trainees.

KeonjharThe world egg day was celebrated in Keonjhar District on 9.10.2015 with much

enthusiasm at all three hatcheries of Keonjhar District. Harichandanpur: On the eve of World egg day, Debate competition was held among school students of Harichandanpur High School where 15 students participated. Three deserving candidates were awarded with 1st, 2nd & 3rd Prizes in presence of BDO, BVO & Sarpanch. One farmer awareness training program was organized where 60 farmers from 14 villages participated. The farmers were sensitized regarding nutritional status of eggs. They were also encouraged to take up Backyard poultry farming by procuring low input birds from hatchery. About 555 nos. of Day old chicks were distributed among farmers on the occasion of World egg day. Sainkul: World egg day was celebrated at Sainkul in presence of Chairman, Ghasipura Block, Block Development Officer, Ghasipura, Sarapancha Ramachandrapur Sarapancha Sainkul, Sub Divisional Veterinary Officer, Anandapur & Block Veterinary Officer Anandapur. Farmer's awareness training was organized where sixty farmers participated. Chairman Ghasipura addressed the farmers regarding role of backyard poultry in poverty alleviation. Day old chicks were distributed among farmers.

Debate competition was also held in Kushaleswara High School, Deogaon among class

8th to 10th students on the subject “Health & Egg”. The winners of the competition were

awarded with prizes.Champua:On the occasion of World egg day, Farmers' awareness training program was organized and 30 farmers of Champua Block attended the training. They were imparted with training on nutritional value of Egg, role of backyard poultry farming for livelihood support. Day old chicks were distributed to 20 farmers. A debate competition on “Usefulness of egg” was held among the students of Arabinda Institute of Integral Education, Champua. The winners of the competition were awarded with prizes.

KhordhaA Seminar-cum-Meeting was organised in the CDVO office campus, Khordha on 9.10.15

thto celebrate 20 World Egg Day. The meeting was held under the chairmanship of Dr. Manas Ranjan Mohapatra, CDVO, Khordha and the chief guest for the occasion was Sri Krupasindhu Mishra, OAS (S), Addl. District Magistrate. The speakers gave brief insights on the importance of World Egg Day. Twenty poultry lead farmers, students, teachers and other officials attended the function. Emphasis was given to create awareness among public to include egg in their regular food habits, which is a nutritionally balanced food and the cheapest source of animal protein. The Chief Guest assured to be a part of the drive for improving the egg and meat production in the district. Lead farmers also shared their experiences about backyard poultry rearing and opined about its profitability.

One essay competition was held among the high school students of B.J.B. High school, Khordha and one debate competition was held among the students of Govt. Girls High school, Khordha. 3 boys and 3 girl students received cash prizes along with dictionaries from the chief guest who secured First, Second and third position in these competitions.

The District Poultry Hatchery was made functional on 6.10.15.

KoraputWorld Egg Day at Koraput was celebrated at District Training Centre, Koraput under the

Chairmanship of CDVO, Koraput. Shri B. Maleswar Patra attended the function as the Chief Guest. All departmental officers attended the functions.

Debate and Essay competitions were organized in five higher secondary schools of Koraput. Forty eight students participated in the event. The winners of the essay and debate competition were awarded with prize.

MalkangiriThe World Egg Day was celebrated at Mathili of Malkangiri District on 09.10.2015. The

Project Director, DRDA graced the occasion as Chief Guest. All departmental officers, farmers, public and students attended the functions.

cheques amounting to Rs. 750/- each towards construction of night shelter under the centrally

sponsored scheme on backyard poultry development.

MayurbhanjWorld Egg Day was celebrated in Mayurbhanj District with great excitement and

enthusiasm amongst Veterinary Staff, farmers, school students. Essay and Debate competitions were held among the school children in Sarat Chandra Vidyapitha, Baripada and M.K.C. High School, Baripada to create awareness about usefulness of egg in daily diet. Prizes were distributed to the winning students in the function. Awareness meetings were organized in each Sub-Division to promote dual purpose low input technology birds suitable for backyard poultry.

NabarangpurWorld Egg Day-2015 was celebrated in the District on 09.10.15. A public meeting was

conducted at Chief District Vety. Office Campus, Nabarangpur where 50 members were participated. The benefits of egg in human life, advantages of layer framing and its profitability, importance of backyard poultry farming and role in socio-economic development of poor farmers were discussed. The farmers were requested to purchase the day old Vanaraja chicks for backyard farming from Nabarangpur hatchery.

The stickers and banners were pasted on the boundary Walls, Offices and different public places throughout the district for creation of awareness among the public. Announcement was also made through mike with vehicle.

A quiz competition was conducted consisting of 20 questions and Prizes were given to successful participants.

NayagarhThe Debate competition on “Usefulness of Egg in daily Life” was held at Govt. High

school, Nayagarh on 06.10.2015, at NAC High school, Nayagarh on dated 07.10.15 on the occasion of World egg day.

On the occasion of World Egg Day Celebration, the Nayagarh District Poultry Hatchery was inaugurated on 09.10.15 by Shri Hemant Kumar Padhi, Collector & District Magistrate, Nayagarh in presence of Dr. Narasingh Pattnaik, CDVO Nayagarh. The Collector & District Magistrate, Nayagarh highly appreciated the Veterinary Staff for running poultry hatchery.

A meeting was held at NDCCB Conference Hall on 09.10.15 after the inauguration of Poultry Hatchery. The Collector & District Magistrate, Nayagarh attended the meeting as Chief Guest. The Poultry farmers from different Blocks were invited to attend the meeting. The Collector & District Magistrate, Nayagarh inaugurated the meeting. Nuapada

World Egg Day was celebrated in Nuapada by organizing a Rally to create awareness

regarding production and consumption of egg. 250 students had participated in a mass rally to thcreate awareness on usefulness of egg on 9 October morning.

thOne Debate and one Essay competition were organized on 6 October 2015 amongst the

school student on “usefulness of egg in our daily life”. The winners of the essay and debate th

competition were awarded with prize on 9 October 2015 by PD, DRDA.

Puri

Two programs were organized to celebrate World Egg Day in Puri District by the

Chief District Veterinary Officer and the District Administration.

One meeting was organized at Puri Zilla School. One debate and one essay completion in

Odia on topic “importance of egg in daily life” were held. Three winners from each competition

were awarded with mementos and certificates. Two students were awarded with only

certificates as consolation prize. There was vivid discussion about the nutrient content of the

egg and its utility in protecting human beings from different diseases caused due to illness.

Another programme was conducted at District hatchery, Pipili. The hatchery was made

operational. One awareness meeting involving farmers, Livestock Inspectors, Gomitras and

local officials was conducted. The importance of egg in daily life, backyard poultry production,

layer farming were discussed in the meeting.

Banners were displayed at strategic location of the town. Leaflets were distributed to

general public.

Sambalpur

The World egg day was celebrated at Kuchinda in Sambalpur district on 09.10.2015. The

programme was graced by Sri Rabi Narayan Naik, Hon'ble M.L.A., Kuchinda along with the

Project Administrator, ITDA, Kuchinda, SDVO, Kuchinda, SDVO, Sambalpur, A.D.V.O. (L.P.),

Sambalpur, B.V.O., Kuchinda and Manager, Special Poultry Unit, Chiplima.

A debate and essay competitions on the 'usefulness of egg in daily life' were held among

the school children and the top performers in each category were awarded with cash prizes and

certificates which were distributed by the P.A., ITDA, Kuchinda.

The hatchery at Kuchinda was inaugurated by the Hon'ble M.L.A., Kuchinda and 3150

eggs were set on the setter of the hatchery.

A training-cum-awareness programme for the prospective poultry farmers was

organized on the day at Kuchinda to train the farmers regarding modern techniques in care and

management of the chicks and adult birds and the purpose of the establishment of the hatchery

at Kuchinda.

Subarnapur

The Essay & Debate competition was held on 8.10.2015 for both Senior and Junior groups

at Govt, Girl's High School, Sonepur on 'Usefulness of Eggs' under the Chairmanship of District

Education Officer, Subarnapur.

The World Egg Day was celebrated in the Chief District Veterinary Office, Subarnapur

premises. The Collector –cum- District Magistrate, Subarnapur Shri Dasarathi Satpathy graced

the occasion as Chief guest. Shri Satyanarayan Mishra, Deputy Director Agriculture, Dr.

Mausumi Mishra, DPC, NHM, Subarnapur and Smt. Basantamanjari Pahi, DSWO, Subarnapur

were invited as guest of honor. About 60 farmers from different SHGs attended the meeting.

The Collector –cum- District Magistrate Subarnapur, Sj. Dasarathi Satpathy appreciated the

effort of Department to run the poultry hatchery which would produce and supply day old

chicks to meet the district requirement to boost backyard poultry development. The other

speakers emphasised about the importance of egg and appealed to SHG members to undertake

backyard poultry farming for income generation. The winners were awarded with prizes by Hon'ble Collector and other invited guests

with cash prizes, Medal and Certificates. The Hatchery was inaugurated by Hon'ble Collector cum District Magistrate,

Subarnapur on this day.

Sundargarhth

One debate and one essay competition was held on 7 October, 2015 at Govt. Girls High School among High School and Upper Primary School students of Sundergarh. 56 students from 12 schools participated in the Essay Competition on “Usefulness of eggs in daily life” and 25 students from 11 schools participated in debate competition on the topic “Why should we eat eggs?”

World Egg Day was celebrated in Government Girls High School, Sundergarh at 2 PM on 9.10. 2015. The Sub-Collector, Sundergarh was the Chief Guest on the occasion. Block Extension Officer, Mrs. Lalima Gloria Dung Dung was invited to be the chief speaker. Three hundred students from 12 schools, teachers and guardians attended the function. The speakers apprised the participants about the usefulness of egg to fulfill the nutritional requirement of human beings. Three winners from each competition were awarded with memento, certificate and prizes books titled 'To enhance scientific temper' written by Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam. Banners were displayed at important places. Leaflets were distributed to students. All the participants were served with boiled eggs.

The Collector cum District Magistrate, Sundergarh inaugurated the Poultry Hatchery, Panposh on this day. One farmers meeting was organized at Poultry hatchery to popularize the rearing of dual purpose birds for backyard poultry.
