Print Making Workshop The art department held a printmaking workshop after school for our able and talented students to learn a new skill. Students learnt about monoprinting and collagraph and made up designs based on sea creatures and landscapes. Monoprinting involved cutting a stencil out of paper, inking up over the top. The stencil was then removed and inked with a different colour and used to print again to fill the void space. For Collagraph students made up a printing plate out of textures and wallpapers. It was sealed with varnish and then inked up to produce textured landscapes.

YEAR 7 CERAMICS Year 7 have been creating ceramic mosaic bugs and creatures as part of their ‘Formal Elements’ project. They used a laser cut stencil as a template and then built up clay shapes as their mosaic tiles. It was fired in the kiln and they then worked with a colourful range of glazes on top of Black Iron Oxide to give it an aged effect. All students enjoyed experimenting with new materials and glazes that gave them an insight into the 3D art course

Key Stage 2 Outreach Art Project The Art department has been busy visiting various primary schools in the catchment area this year. Year 5 and 6 students have been studying Narrative Painting, in particular the work of Aboriginal artists. As a result of their research, mind mapping and symbol design skills, students created Aborigine inspired narrative paintings of their own, based on the journeys that they take every day from home to school. l

Sound Waves at the Turner Sims

In a project sponsored by ArtsWork South East and lead by the d.@rt Centre, partners from Priestlands, Wildern, Berrywood, and Freegrounds Schools along with 15 retired members of the local community, a community choir and musicians from Southampton University took our proximity to the sea as a stimulus around which to devise a modern symphony. On Sunday, 8th March, all participants came together for a performance of the piece at The Turner Sims in Southampton.

Drama

New York 2015

Our annual drama trip to New York was once again a resounding success despite it being the coldest trip to date. However, the cold weather did not disrupt our sightseeing which included the Statue of Liberty, the Empire State Building, and the Bronx Zoo. Once again students and staff had an amazing time.
