possible through meetings,

interviews and drop-in events.

Bankside Neighbourhood Plan

will make a difference. As well as

your views today, you can also

continue to send in your ideas

through the website for the plan

www.wearebankside.com or by

the Bankside Neighbourhood Plan will makea difference

Page 2: We are bankside exhibition

In Bankside that means residents,

businesses and community

organisations all working together

to agree a vision for the future of

our neighbourhood.

As well as setting out what we

want for the future character and

development of Bankside, the

Neighbourhood Plan will also be a

planning policy document that has

real powers to give direction for our

area, sitting alongside Southwark

Council’s New Local Plan and the

Mayor’s London Plan.

So what is the Bankside Neighbourhood Plan?

Your views are important to us so get involved

t he Government’s Localism Act now gives us all the chance to influence how our neighbourhood develops in the future through a Neighbourhood Plan.

We have lots of long established

residential and business

communities, and world famous

cultural institutions in our

neighbourhood, and it’s now also

the focus for new residential and

business investment.

Whilst we need to have more homes

and jobs, we don’t think these

should be at the expense of the

special character of Bankside. New

development in Bankside benefits

the whole borough, and while we

welcome this investment it could

put what’s already here under strain.

What makes Bankside so special for us?

What do you think? let us know

The forum started to think about

what a plan for Bankside might say,

making sure what we all think is

special now, stays special.

As the Neighbourhood Plan will

affect the area where you live or

work, we want to be sure that what

goes in the plan is what local people

and local businesses want.

With all the new buildings and

developments, lots of new uses, and

even more new people living and

working in Bankside, it’s important

to make sure that the future

planning decisions are right for

Bankside and us.

We’re looking at a number of

aspects of local life and the changes

that are happening or could happen.

We call them themes and we

would like your views on them.

They include:

• Heritage and design

• Small and large businesses

including retail

• Housing

• Green and open spaces

• Transport, streets and the

public realm

• Social facilities and service

How can we make our neighbourhood better?

What do you think? let us know

y our views will make sure that the Bankside Neighbourood Plan reflects local experiences as the neighbourhood changes over the coming years.

Included within these are

improvements to our streets and

public spaces, and funding local

employment initiatives. Many of

these have made a difference to

local people and groups.

In future, there will be a new

“Projects List” as part of the

Neighbourhood Plan. It’s important

to find out your ideas now on new

community projects that have local

support, and that can make a

difference in our community.

Once all the ideas have been

collated from the consultations, and

have been taken into account, you

will have a further opportunity to

comment on the draft plan.

YOU ALSO GET A VOTEWhat’s also different about the

Neighbourhood Plan is that once

it’s written Bankside residents and

businesses can vote on it, probably

in early 2014. Voting for the

Neighbourhood Plan will mean local

opinions will influence the planning

decisions made by Southwark

Council on all future developments

in Bankside. That’s why the

Neighbourhood Plan needs to

say what local residents and

businesses want for Bankside.
