We want to abolish work for your benefit/workfare schemes in the UK. People selling their labour should be fairly remunerated for their work at the normal level paid for the tasks they perform and treated in the same way as a standard employee with full rights and representation if requested. These are the basic rights of any worker in a modern democratic society. Workfare is effectively forced labour and is therefore illegal in the UK.

Occupy Worthing started on 15th October.

I’d been keeping a close eye on the Occupy Movement for a week or two; I knew that it was what I’d been waiting for, probably for most of my life!

A Facebook group had been started, and there were quite a few curious members. It was a lovely sunny Saturday, and I plotted up outside Steyne Gardens in a deck chair, with some pretty crudely made posters, and a banner which said; ‘We are the 99%’. During the afternoon I met up with a couple of the curious people from the FB group from there things moved pretty fast. The following day

I went back to town, this time outside HSBC bank and for the next two weeks us fellow Occupiers would meet their almost daily. We quickly realised that we needed fliers to give out, and started Megaphoning sessions. Almost all of the people we spoke to were in agreement that we live in a very unjust society.

Occupy Brighton were also forming and decided to join them to show as much support and solidarity as possible. The time spent at the Occupy Brighton camp was usually colourful and interesting. I feel that the Occupy Movement has learned so much from the camps and it’s an experience I shall never forget. Occupy Worthing is still fairly small in numbers and it’s never been viable to have a full time camp.

However, Occupiers regularly assemble in the town centre, either for direct actions against such things as workfare and bankers bonuses. One thing that I feel so important is getting out there and speaking to people about the issues, and of course giving out our lovely ‘Free Hugs’ (Please find your pull out my special ‘Free Hugs’ heart in the middle pages!).

Occupy Worthing is currently working towards speaking in schools to explain all about the Occupy Movement and is looking into a community garden project. Occupy Worthing coming along well are General Assemblies (Open Meetings) are once a fortnight at the Beechwood Hall Hotel. Our next meeting is on Tuesday, 20 March 2012, 20:00 until 22:00. Occupy Worthing is coming along well

Has protesting ever changed anything?Well one day in 1932 some people got together and went out for a walk and changed England forever...by Malcolm Cook

The Peak District is the spiritual home of opening up the countryside to all people, in 1932, 400 or so working people from Manchester and Sheffield walked on private moorlands in the ‘Mass Trespass at Kinder Scout’, all led by a young Mechanic from Manchester called Benny Rothman.

Then, as now, some people thought there was nothing they could do about it, so why worry..? While others took a different perspective and stood for the their freedom and the public opinion, they were upstanding not bystanding citizens. Although the actual trepass was all of 50 yards off the footpath and about 100 yards long and according to a Gamekeepers recall they shouted and cheered a bit, turned around and went home.

This has become one of the most rewarding examples of popular protest in 20th Century Britain and the trespassers are regarded as heroes by Britain’s large population of “ramblers”. who broke the law and were prepared to risk prison so you can walk in the Peak District, along Public Footpaths, through National Parks and Nature Reserves freely today.

In a whirlwind world of war, shopping deals & homeless students hoarding debt, it becomes hard to break the ice on ran-dom communication. People don’t natu-rally feel the need to discuss anything that isn’t on their afternoon agenda. Equally you wouldn’t be overly inclined to open yourself up to someone leafleting, it’s purely advertisement, not necessary infor-mation like we offer.

Our information comes in the form of the personal reaction; it flows out smoothly smeared with slight embarrassment. Every person has self-truth, which we’ve been documenting and reflecting back to the public virtually. This contains the self-teaching lesson-mirror, and a lesson for the other 99.99% of the local community to learn from. We also offer free hugs, full of free love & anxiety suppressing warmth. You don’t need to worry about ‘the fu-ture’ if you live and act on the ‘now’.

Every single open interview has been an eye opener for me. At times I’ve felt the urge to yell out in agreement, especially when the person begins to doubt their perfect words. There is a universal sense to certain situations, especially when at-tempting to answer ‘how do you express concerns & disagreements to the govern-ment, as it involves all our hard earned pay cheques. The realisation is that there is no effective way, so let’s all start from that agreement.

These Vox Pops are discovering the core of emotions in Worthing, and it becomes more evident everyday that this is the same for every town that exists. Each of us have to change our value list, putting ourselves as first priority, then removing the ego-mind when discovering what we need in life. This helps to clear the trashy thoughts that race thru the mind uncon-sciously, and we each begin to find greater purposes to the aid of the greater good; Humanity.
