OPERATION 1The initial objective of this assignment (right) was to understand image data and analyze how image manipulation works within Photoshop. The second part of the assignment (above) pertained to representing the pixelization of the previous part as a hybrid of physical and digital outputs.
OPERATION 2 This assignment was related to the structure and layout of books. The objective was to grasp a better understanding of how books are structured and how books tend to have a relatively defi ned layout. The spread shown to the right is one of six from the same book used to construct the image on the left using InDesign. Elements from each spread were taken and pasted onto a single image showing the overarching structure of the book and how the design maintained a sense of unity.
OPERATION 3 The fi rst part of this assignment was to help solitify understanding of different drawing projections. A three dimensional object was cre-ated in Illustrator from a VanDosenberg work (left) and represented through a top view (above), an isometric view (next page), and a front view (next page).
The end result of the project was a physical model that required the use of all previ-ous projections to create.
OPERATION 4
This project focused on giving a better understanding of a specifi c object, in this case the object shown above. The fi rst step (right) was to construct the object virtual-ly in Rhino and unfold it into individual faces to understand how the object might be constructed as a physical model.
The next step was to create a physical model of the virtual object using the same folding method that was developed in the virtual phase of the project. An additional three models, each increasing by 150% in size, were created and fi gures were added to give a sense of scale to the objects.
The objective of this assignment was to learn about the use of physical and demo-graphic data effectively. The above graphic shows the city of Grand Rapids, the shaded districts represent median age, owner occupied housing and median in-come. The intent was to show correlations between these data sets. The idea was that lower age (red) was directly related to lower income (tan) and lower percent-age of owner occupied housing (tan). Looking at the above image these data sets do for the most part interact as expected.

OPERATION 6This assignment pertained to the systematic visual analysis of a site. Shown to the right are axonometric drawings of the chosen site using three dimensional rendering, section cuts and contour lines. Above is a more detailed top view of the contour lines. The darker fi lls represent lower elevations.
The next portion of the assignment was to create a scene using the section cuts from the previous page(above). When the sections are placed one after another a full en-vironment is created. Next a model (right) was constructed using the same graphic to add depth to the scene.
The fi nal part of this assignment was to create a traditional topographical model (above) along with six additional models using unconventional materials and con-struction methods. Each model was photographed at three different scales defi ned by fi gures.
