This project was to design and fabricate an all wood stool, having no less than two and no more than three points of contact to the ground. A minimum of two joinery types was required. It is con-structed of African Mahogany wood [Sapele]. Visible finger joints are the connection between the seat and legs. The legs are con-nected with domino joinery. must understand the link between human form and the architectural environment. The finished table is constructed of African Hardwood [Merbau] and frost-white plexiglas.
Through creative sketching and 3D modeling, a cantilevering end table was designed. While not exceeding 5 cubic feet of space, the table was con-ceived to remove the minimum of space from the volume of a room. Just as air flows around and through buildings, it flows around and through the objects within. Sometimes we are the objects within, often we are that which flows through. This project proposes to design new spaces and pedestrian paths throughout an old cemetary without, however, disrupting the visible and undetected graves. This addition consists of new social spaces, seating and viewing areas, storage and a mul-tifunctional indoor/outdoor space for lectures, performances
and receptions. This is achieved by a carefully connected assembly of elevated decks and sloping pathways. The intervention consists of five decks which are elevated at two varying levels to accommodate the vary-ing ground slope and control the water flow direction of the rainwater catchment system engineered beneath the decks.

AN INTERACTIVE URBAN INSTALLATION
Located in Copenhagen, Denmark, Block 24 is an inteactive pavillion. It is composed of a number of wooden volumes in which the negative space creates the experience. Placed on an extruded surface, each volume is moveable at the users choice. The pavillion is set on a track system allowing each volume to move a set distance. Thus creating a variation of
open and intimate spaces within. The concept was inspires by the Danish Philosopher, Soren Kierkegaard and his theories on humans and time. As we go about our existence, we are always rushing to finish the task that we forget to experience that which is happening now.

Lighting Sculpture
The light is filtered and encolsed by semi-opaque glass. This allows for controlled direct and indi-rect lighting.
The inner wooden masses are solid wood panneling. They create a more intimate space at the core of the pavillion and provide a unique seating experi-ence.
The outer wooden masses are open wood panneling where partial transparency is achieved. They cre-ate a lightweight and open feel at the outer edge of the pavillion to create experiential spaces and circulation.

This project is a conceptual architectural skin, responsive to various natural stimuli. Through biomimicry of animal print and cell patterns, the skin is adaptive to a specific environment as well as beauty of nature for intimate attraction. NATURAL This project began as a manipulation of an object in nature as inspiration for built form. Using artificial ma-terials, an evolution of forms were created. To find a balance among the natural and build environment, ar-chitecture must work with the natural, not against it. A

ikehuEnergizing the Waterfront at Kaka’ako on Oahu...Ikehu is energy in the Hawaiian native language. Energy can be directly re-lated to strength and vitality, which is definitively what Ikehu Urban Village at Kaka’ako will symbolize. The Urban Village is endeavoring to transform the site where an abandoned Fisherman’s Warf currently exists. Ikehu will redefine the term Urban Village, creating an atmosphere of progressive, innova-tive, and culturally responsive urban-island living. U

AN ICONIC URBAN SPACE
While considering the Ikehu residents, the pavilion creates a shared urban environment in a world-class community. The residents have their own private entrance to the green-roof via the connected sky path that unwinds directly into the heart of the residential space.
Through state of the art security, Ikehu residents will have fingerprint identification tech-nology for any access into the private residential areas. Eilminating the need for carry-ing a key. The public users are able to access the greenroof by the main ramp at the entrance of the pavilion.

I , Joey Valent i , am a sixth year graduate student in the School of Archi tecture at the Universi ty of Hawai i ,
Manoa. My educat ion f rom the Universi ty has lead to a var iety of projects that ref lect not only my personal-

In the past year, I have completed a successful internship as a Junior Archi tect for Honokea Surf Parks, de-
veloping masterplans and producing render ings for the use of investor mater ia ls. Fol lowing this internship,
I completed my 12 week Pract icum at CSCEC Design Inst i tute in Bei j ing, China. Having a hand in var ious
large scale uban design projects, th is exper ience has al lowed me to apply my design ski l ls to current proj -
