Typar is a long lasting, durablenonwoven geotextile fabric for pavedand unpaved roads and surfaces, drainage, waste handling systems, erosion control and landfills.Manufactured from high qualitypolypropylene, Typar is a continuousfilament, heat bonded fabric withsuperior uniformity that separates, reinforces and filters soil particleswhile letting water pass freelythrough.

No matter what your needs, Typargeotextiles offer an easy to install, economical and proven alternative tomore expensive and less effectiveconstruction materials and methods.Typar is a high quality geotextile thatoffers a number of benefits including:

• Lower construction cost fromreduced aggregate base thickness

• Reduction in construction timefrom reliable product quality andease of installation

• Reduction in ongoingmaintenance costs throughTypar’s proven performance, toughness and durability overtime

TYPAR® – THE IDEAL GEOTEXTILE

Unpaved roads and yards builtwithout an asphalt or concretesurface course derive all structuralsupport from the aggregate base andare generally used by heavy trucksand equipment that are

prone to cause severe damage.Greater thicknesses of aggregate baseare needed to support the loads.Typar is vital to prevent intermixingof the aggregate into the subgradesoil which results in ruts and potholes.

• Prevents intermixing of aggregatewith underlying soils

• Reduces the thickness of aggregaterequired

• Eliminates the need for frequentre-application of aggregate

Typar is available in a variety ofwidths and lengths and weightsranging from 1.5 oz/yd

2to

8 oz/yd2. The requirements of

AASHTO M288 are met by thefollowing styles:

Class 3 – Typar 3401Class 2 – Typar 3501Class 1 – Typar 3801

Without Typar, soil contaminates and weakens aggregatebase resulting in failure of the road.

With Typar, aggregate won’t sink into base soil but stays intact to support loads.

Typar provides a rugged separationand stabilization layer between theroad structure and the subgrade soils. The use of Typar in this applicationgoes back over 35 years, and isproven to be an exceptionallydurable geotextile.

• Prevents mixing of the valuableroad base aggregate with theunderlying subgrade soils

• Enhances drainage of thesubgrade soils while preventingpumping of fine soil particles intothe base aggregate

• Reduces the required amount of road base aggregate bypreventing intermixing

• Assures long term prevention of road base deterioration

Subsurface drains require a properlydesigned protective layer thatprevents the movement of soil into a drain that would cause clogging of the drainage system. Typargeotextiles provide a uniform filter

layer around subsurface drains, allowing water to pass freely into and through to the drain. TyparGeotextiles also function similarlybehind retaining walls and next to pools.

• Prevents migration of subgrade soilparticles into the drain

• Enhances the natural long-term development of a graded particle filter

• Reduces construction time and cost

• Eliminates the cost and difficulty ofconstructing an alternative gradedaggregate filter

• Easy to handle and install• Typar is available in a range ofopening sizes to deal with mostany soil

Erosion control structures dissipatethe mechanical and hydraulic forcesthat cause erosion of the soil behindthem. Typar geotextiles provide adependable filter and protection layerfor stream banks, shorelines, slopes, submerged foundations, retainingwalls, bulkheads and revetments.Typar is installed with a layer ofbedding stone under armor stone(rip rap), gabions or pre-cast blocksystems.

Bedding stones (Rip-rap) are neededto provide intimate contact (preventpiping), UV protection, protectionfrom armor stones and vandalism.

• Prevents undermining of the armorlayer by soil movement

• Enhances drainage of the slope soilswithout associated pumping orpiping of fine soil particles

• Eliminates the difficulty anduncertainty associated with graded aggregate systems

• Simplifies construction and reducesconstruction time and cost

EROSION CONTROL

Typar geotextiles serve a number of important functions in all types oflandfill and waste managementapplications. It is used as a protectivelayer to prevent geomembrane linerdamage, as a permeable separationlayer to preserve drainage integrityand prevent clay intrusion into a

geonet, and in landfill cover systemsas well as for temporary daily covers.Because Typar resists a wide range of chemicals, it is frequently used inhazardous waste landfills which mustmeet stringent EPA regulations andFHWA drainage criteria. Typar hasparticularly high strength and tear

resistance properties when comparedto other geotextiles of the sameweight making it the economicalchoice.

• Provides a very effective anddurable daily cover, easy to useand store

• Prevents damage to or abrading of the geomembrane during itsdeployment and the placement ofoverlying materials

• High modulus protects drainagelayers from soil intrusion

• Small opening size prevents clayfrom passing into leachatecollection and leak detection layers

• Resists chemical attack• Assures long term tear resistance

From football fields, baseball parks andrace tracks to golf courses, Typargeotextiles are needed to keep layersof the structure separate and preventcontamination of customized surfacesby underlying soils. Blanket and trenchdrain systems for recreational facilitiesoften use Typar for economicalreasons and for ease of installationpermitting fast, simple construction.

• Preserves the integrity of specialized surface materials

• Enhances the natural long-term development of a graded particle filter

• Eliminates the need for sacrificiallayers and allowances in the structure

• Simplifies construction and reducesconstruction time and cost

RECREATIONAL FACILITIES

Onsite waste water disposal or septic systems serve approximatelyone-third of the households in theUnited States. Septic systems aredesigned to disperse large volumes ofliquid by percolation into the groundthrough large subsurface drainagesystems. Typar extends the systemlife significantly.

• Prevents soil particles from clogginglarge drainage systems

• Enhances the passing of liquidthrough the system

• Unaffected by most chemicals• Simplifies construction of largedrainage fields

• Proven alternative to gradedaggregate or sand filters which are more expensive and difficult to install

WASTE HANDLING SYSTEMS

Typar is a permeable barrier that separates soil from drainage material.

Page 7: Typar Geotextiles Bro

Typar is ideally suited for landscapingapplications. Its permeability allowsfor fast drainage and the passage ofair and fertilizers while its tight fiberstructure minimizes penetration byweeds and roots and preventsunwanted growth beneath thefabric. Its small opening size preventspiping or erosion of subgrade soils.Typar is generally placed overnatural soil and covered with a layerof decorative stone, bark or mulch.Weed growth is inhibited inlandscaped beds and under decks.Gravel and stone paths retain theirstructure longer by separating covermaterials from subgrade soils.

When roots are a problemparticularly in sidewalks, curbs anddrainage systems, Typar Biobarrier®

root control system should be usedwhich involves the controlled releaseof a herbicide from the Biobarrier®

fabric system.

• Allows moisture, fertilizers and airto reach soil for healthy plants

• Reduces weed germination• Prohibits weed growth beneath fabric

• Prevents uneven settling of patios• Durable, tear resistant, won’t rot or mildew

• Lightweight and easy to install• Assures long term minimalmaintenance of the landscape

Note: Typar is manufactured from the highest quality polypropylene. During the manufacturing process a surface tension is formed on theproduct which, prior to contact with soil, will cause water to run off the fabric giving the appearance of water resistance. This is atemporary phenomenon which disappears when the fabric comes into contact with soil, and normal hydraulic properties will take effect.
