A. GRAMMAR NOTES:
1. Present simple tense :(Thì hiện tại đơn)
- of the verb “be”:
S + am/is/are…
S + am/is/are + not…
Am/Is/Are + S…?
- of ordinary verb:

Do/Does + S +V-bare inf…?
*Use:
- Diễn tả thói quen / hành động được lặp đi lặp lại ở hiện tại (often, usually, sometimes, always, seldom,

Ex : I walk to school everyday.
She usually does her homework in the evening.
- Diễn tả sự thật, chân lý.
Ex :The Earth moves around the sun.
The Sun rises in the East.
- Simple present tense with future meaning ( thì hiện tại đơn với nghĩa tương lai): nói về lịch trình,
thời gian biểu.
Ex: What time does the plane take off? – It takes off in an hour.
2. Past simple: (Quá khứ đơn)
- of the verb “be”:
S + was/were…
S + was/weren’t…
Was/Were + S…?
- of ordinary verb:
S + V-ed/V-2…
S + didn’t + V-bare inf…
Did + S + V-bare inf…?
*Use:
- Diễn tả hành động/ sự việc xảy ra vào một thời gian xác định trong quá khứ (yesterday, last week /…, ago,
the day before, … ) và không còn liên quan đến hiện tại.
Ex : Last night, I watched TV.
Mai didn’t do her homework yesterday because she was sick.
3. Future simple tense: (Thì tương lai đơn)
S + will +V-bare inf…
S + won’t + V-bare inf…

*Use:
Some adverbs are often used: tomorrow, next…, someday, one day, tonight, this morning/ week…, soon…
Ex: - I will be 14 on my next birthday

4. Talk about intention (dự định) with “be going to”:
S + be going to + V-bare inf…
Ex: Bob is tired of taking the bus to work. He is going to buy a car.)
5. Present progressive tense: ( Thì hiện tại tiếp diễn)
S + am/is/are + V-ing…
S + am/is/are + not + V-ing…
Am/Is/Are + S + V-ing…?
*Use:
- hành động đang diễn ra tại thời điểm nói.
Ex: Let’s go out. It is raining now.
- hoạch định ở tương lai .
Ex: Tomorrow is my birthday. I am having a party at my house.
- chỉ sự thay đổi với ‘get’ and ‘become’.
Ex: The weather is getting colder/ Life in the provinces is becoming better.
6. Present perfect with “for and since” ( Thì hiện tại hoàn thành với for và since)
S + have/has + V-ed/V-3(past participle)…
S + have/has + not + V-ed/V-3(past participle)…
Have/Has + S + V-ed/V-3(past participle)…?
* Use: diễn tả hành động / sự việc bắt đầu trong quá khứ và vẫn còn tiếp tục / liên quan đến hiện tại.

7. Adverbs of place: (outside, inside, there, here, upstairs, downstairs…)
Ex: The children are playing upstairs
She lived here in 1999
8. . … (not) adjective + enough +to-inf.
Ex: She is not old enough to be in my class / I am tall enough to reach that shelf.)
9. Modal verb: should / ought to / must / can / will /may …
Ex:
You must stop when the traffic lights are red.

10. Reflexive pronoun: đại từ phản thân (myself, yourself/ yourselves, himself, herself, itself, ourselves,
themselves)
Ex:
- I cut myself/ He is looking at himself in the mirror.
- I myself faxed the report to him.
- We will go and see the president himself.
- Anna lived by herself in that large house.
11. Why……..? - Because…. Ex: Why didn’t Hoa go to school yesterday? - Because she was sick.
12. Prepositions of time: (giới từ chỉ thời gian)
1. in: in 2002, in summer, in the 21st century, in July, in the past, in the morning…
2. on: on Monday, on July 15th, on her birthday, on Christmas Day, on Tet holiday…

13. used to + V-bare-inf. Ex: I used to go swimming when I was a kid.

17. Gerund (V + ing): danh động từ
Ex:
- Swimming is very good for you.

- We talk about cooking.
18. Comparison( So sánh) with “like, (not) as…as, (not) the same as, different from”

Living in a big city today is very different from living in a small town long ago. Today if you want to go
to the city center, it takes you a long time by bus or by car. If you ride a motorbike, you breathe all the
exhaust fumes and feel sick. Howevex, if you become ill, there are hospitals close by. Also if you like music
and dancing, the discos and pubs offer a wide variety.
