American Southwest The American Southwest is synonymous with desert, exposed geologic features, and expansive tracts of land that remain mostly unadulterated by humans. The region has also become synonymous with National Parks as a plethora of them are found here. The Grand Canyon of Arizona offers a glimpse into a time never known by man. The carved-up landscape of Utah provides for surreal and uniquely differing views into mazes of deep canyons at Canyonlands, the sandstone arches, fins, and balanced rocks at Arches, the spooky hoodoos of Bryce Canyon, and the deep canyon and towering cliffs of Zion. All of this eroded by time and the power of nature. New Mexico is a delightfully interesting mix of mountain ranges, desert flats and expansive river valleys, and the spectacle of world-famous Bosque Del Apache National Wildlife Refuge, and the shimmering desert landscape of White Sands National Monument. All of these dynamic locations are perfect representations of this seemingly unreal geologic region.

“The landscapes of the desert Southwest are both stunning & unique. Join us as we explore Grand Canyon, Zion, Bryce, Arches & Canyonlands National Parks as well as Bosque Del Apache wildlife refuge & White Sands!”

Alaska

Alaska has long been known as ‘The Last Frontier.’ Its size and diversity is so immense that it is downright overwhelming. And perhaps Alaska should be overwhelming considering all that is located here. The 49th State is the country’s largest, encompassing 663,268 square miles, which is over twice the size of Texas.

The sheer volume and variety of wildlife in Alaska is incredible. With a wide-open landscape and a coastline that spans over 6,500 miles, Alaska meets the needs of a diverse group of creatures to flourish. Bears thrive here. An estimated 30,000 brown bears live in Alaska while polar bear live and hunt on the edges of arctic pack ice. The icy waters of Kenai Fjords are perfect for marine wildlife including Orca & Humpback Whales, Sea Lion, Otters, as well as a variety of seabirds including Bald Eagles and Horned Puffins.

The Northern Lights are a spectacle all on their own when the night sky fills with a tidal wave-like storm of color. Interior Alaska is large and sparsely populated making for good night sky viewing and is arguably one of the best places in the world to witness the Aurora. The immensity of the landscape here combined with the variety of awe-inspiring things to see and do make Alaska a place that requires a great deal of time. Just one visit here is simply not enough to see it all. Join us in the last great wilderness – the Land of the Midnight Sun.

“Nothing compares to the rugged, untouched wilderness of the last great frontier. Join us in Alaska and photograph stunning Mountain Landscapes, Brown Bears, Polar Bears, Bald Eagles, Marine Wildlife & the Northern Lights!

Costa Rica

Costa Rica is a small swath of land extending from the Pacific Ocean to the Caribbean Sea, bridging Central and South America. Because of its proximity to the equator the climate here is tropical year-round, however, elevation (mountains) can create slightly different microclimates. The country has a width distance of barely 200 miles yet is still home to over 4% of the world’s animal species, making Costa Rica the most biodiverse country in the world. The first Costa Rican National Park was created in 1975, and since that time the country has been dedicated to conservation. The National System of Conservation Areas helps to preserve a total of 25% of the national territory, which is divided into 29 national parks, 19 wildlife refuges, 8 biological reserves. Costa Rica maintains the highest percentage of ecologically protected land of any country in the world.

One of those National Parks, Corcovado, located on the remote Osa Peninsula, has been called “the most biologically intense place on Earth in terms of biodiversity.” Corcovado National Park protects within its boundaries 41,788 hectares of shallow lagoons, marsh, mangrove swamps, rivers, wet forest and low-altitude cloud forest, as well as 46 kilometers of sandy beach. Within this extensive territory are some 6,000 insects, 500 trees, 367 birds, 140 mammals, 117 amphibians and reptiles, and 40 freshwater fish species. All this makes for nice homes for a great deal of wildlife that just so happens to be quite photogenic.

“The bewildering variety of wildlife & bio-diversity in Costa Rica is unrivaled in the world. Join us at a rainforest eco-lodge for some of the best wildlife photography on the planet. Macaws, Toucans, Monkeys & Sloths abound!”

Rocky Mountains

The National Parks of Colorado, Montana and Wyoming are truly some of the best in the country. The landscapes in this region are marked by snow-capped jagged mountain peaks, sapphire lakes, waterfalls, tall trees, and abundant wildlife. Mountainsides and meadows are home to the large mammals like herds of bison, elk, bears, wolves, grizzly, moose and antelope. Glacier is truly perhaps “the last best place” with its completely intact ecosystem. Yellowstone is best known for its geysers and hot springs. Grand Teton & Rocky Mountain National Parks have arguably the country’s most impressive mountain ranges and are often considered America’s most beautiful National Parks. While these parks share much in common, they all stand unique.

“The Rocky Mountain states beckon to be explored with stunning landscapes & plentiful wildlife. Photograph locales include Yellowstone, Grand Teton, Rocky Mountain & Glacier National Parks!”

Yosemite

Buried deep in the western Sierra Nevada Mountains of California lies a place that resembles most people’s idea of heaven. Here towering granite mountains stand like great castle walls, home to plentiful waterfalls that cascade into deep valleys and meadows below. Being synonymous with John Muir and Ansel Adams, Yosemite National Park has grown in popularity as its dazzling views and aesthetics now draw roughly four million visitors annually; with the majority spending their time in the world-famous Yosemite Valley.

These inquiring visitors from across the globe seek out Yosemite as some of the most iconic rock formations and nature scenes on earth are found here. The list goes on and on: Half Dome, El Capitan, Bridalveil Falls, Gates of the Valley and Tunnel View to name just a few. The aesthetic nature of all this beauty naturally attracts the eye and stokes the creative fires in the soul and spirit of photographers, artists, adventurers, alike.

El Capitan, a prominent granite monolith that looms over Yosemite Valley is one of the most popular rock climbing destinations in the world, but is also a prominent and world-famous photographic subject. An image of Half Dome, standing 3,000 feet above the valley floor at twilight, with the Merced River in the foreground is an unforgettable image lusted after by nature photographers from across the globe.

“One of America’s first National Parks and the stomping grounds of John Muir and Ansel Adams. Nothing quite compares with experiencing the alpine beauty of Yosemite Valley in every season of the year!”

Iceland

Iceland continues to be considered one of the best photographic destinations in the world. Often described as ‘the land of fire and ice,’ this tiny island country’s contrasts are what makes it so special. It is green and lush in areas and frozen in others. It is lava and water. It is where mountains spill onto black sand beaches, and where waterfalls flow over geologic remnants of Iceland’s fiery past. The lights of the Aurora dazzle in the dark, and the endless midnight sun of summer. In fact, there is no place quite like Iceland and no way to see the tiny island country quite like this.

Africa

Africa is a vast continent complete with the kind of natural wonders that you’ll find no place else on earth. The biodiversity of wildlife here is incredible with an overwhelming array of mammal and bird species that help to give the African continent it’s identity. It is here that lions, leopards, zebras, giraffe and vast herds of elephant still roam free amongst the expansive plains. Allow Africa to capture your imagination, whether it from the luxurious safari-style “camps,” or from the safari-style boat and/or overland vehicle trips, as they will provide close (enough) encounters with highly sought-after wildlife of Africa!

India

There aren’t many animals in the world that can spark equal parts unease and respect as tigers. Perhaps rightfully so as they are the world’s largest living cats. And they are quite difficult to photograph in the wild. India is home to 70% of the world’s tiger population, so it positions itself as the best place to seek out the elusive Bengal Tiger. Kanha and Bandhavgarh National Parks are both home to growing tiger populations, but also many other animals such as Sloth bear, Indian wolf, black-faced langur, jackal, antelope as well as approximately 300 species of birds. The landscape is a mixed forest of bamboo, sal, grassland and a complex of deciduous forests.

“The subcontinent is home to the densest Bengal Tiger population on Earth as well as countless other species of wildlife. Join us for a once in a lifetime Indian Safari this year as we photograph wild Tigers in their natural environment.”

Hawaii The Hawaiian Islands are renowned for their rugged landscapes of cliffs, waterfalls, tropical foliage and, of course, sandy beaches and spectacular sunsets. This translates into a wealth of photography opportunities in some of the most unique, diverse and unspoiled tropical landscapes in the world. This place is an unrivaled expression of the power of nature. Visitors can experience the sunrise on a warm Pacific beach, lush jungle waterfalls and the sunny and rugged lava plains of Volcanoes National Park. Sunsets and stars from the snowy heights of the nearly 14,000-foot-high Mauna Kea are truly unforgettable. Hundreds of miles of coastline wrap around these beautiful islands, with white sand beaches, black sand beaches and even green sand beaches. Humpback Whales, dolphins and sea turtles are often spotted here. There is no place quite like Hawaii.

The Great Smoky Mountains

Step into the Smoky Mountains for a truly wondrous display of life. Great Smoky Mountains National Park, which straddles the borders of North Carolina and Tennessee in the southeastern United States, is renowned for its diversity of plant and animal life, the beauty of its ancient mountains, and the history of its Appalachian mountain culture.

For photographers, Great Smoky Mountains offers an array of opportunity. Abundant wildlife, like Black Bear, elk and an amazing amount of birds and amphibians are here for the taking. Views, vistas and trees seem to take center stage here, though. Great Smoky Mountains National Park is home to over 100 species of tree spread throughout five different forest types including Eastern Hemlock, Mountain Ash and various Maple Trees..

Landscape photographers will relish in views of misty sunrises from grassy balds overlooking a sea of mountains. Ethereal waterfalls under brilliant leaf covered canopies provide for wonderful composition. There is bewilderment in the amazing variety of plant life in the Smokies. It is truly incredible, no matter what time of year one visits. The trees and plants found here are what granite domes and waterfalls are to Yosemite, or what geysers and wildlife to Yellowstone.

“Renowned for it’s diversity of plant and animal life, ancient mountains, and the history of its Appalachian mountain culture, the Smokies are a truly wondrous display of life. Join us as we photograph the wonders of the Great Smoky Mountains”

Brazil The natural world that exists in Brazil is mind-boggling. The country is the most bio-diverse nation on the planet, boasting an incredible variety of plant and animal life.

The Amazon Rainforest is spread across 9 countries in South America, however, more than half of it is in Brazil. The Amazon River is one of the most indomitable rivers in the world. There are 10 million species that call the Amazon home.

The Pantanal is perhaps a bit lesser known, but should be at the top of any list of what makes Brazil amazing. Often overshadowed by the Amazon, the Pantanal actually boasts a higher concentration of fauna, comparable to the densest animal populations in Africa. Some of the Pantanal’s critters include giant anteaters, piranha, howler and capuchin monkeys, green anacondas—the world’s largest snake, and the star of our proverbial show, jaguars!

“The natural world that exists in Brazil is mind-boggling. In addition to the Amazon Rainforest & Brazilian Pantanal, there are 69 national parks here; home to impressive rock formations, massive mountain ranges, incredible waterfalls and teeming with wildlife.”

The Pacific Northwest

The Pacific Northwest includes the areas bordered by the Pacific Ocean and Cascade Mountains in the northwestern corner of the United States, primarily the states of Washington and Oregon. This region stands out because of the beauty in its natural diversity.

The PNW -as it is often called – is home to dramatic coastlines, snow-capped mountains and lush forests.

It is here in the PNW where we find places like Olympic and Mt. Rainier National Parks, where glacier-capped mountains, old-growth temperate rainforest and savage Pacific Ocean coastline converge. Ascending to over 14,000 feet above sea level Mount Rainier towers over the state of Washington as an icon of the region.

The beautiful and rugged Oregon coast stretches roughly 363 miles, divided into three regions based on the geologic formations that define them. Long stretches of unbroken beaches of the North Coast give way to a the sea cliffs, terraces and bays of the Central Coast. The South Coast is marked by sea cliffs, beaches and mountains. Found on the southern end are the Coast Redwoods, which are among the oldest living organisms in the world living upwards of 2,000 years.

“Olympic Peninsula, Mt. Rainier & Redwoods National Parks feature glacier-capped mountains and old-growth temperate rainforest. The stunning Pacific coastline has some of most picturesque landscape opportunities in the world.”
