texting abroad, or have just became frustrated by an ever increasing telephone bill.

will allow you to make cheap calls, eliminate texting (SMS) cost, and allow you to have

free mobile data access.

have probably one of the best-kept open-secrets around!

That’s why here at IPPTS Associates we decided to compile this report, which includes the

services.

1. WHATSAPP - THE NEXT GENERATION MARKETING TOOL

WhatsApp Messenger is a proprietary, cross-platform instant messaging subscription

service for smartphones. In addition to text messaging, users can send each other

images, video, and audio media messages. The client software is available for Android,

BlackBerry OS, BlackBerry 10, iOS, Series 40, Symbian (S60), and Windows Phone

Competing with a number of Asian-based messaging services (like LINE, KakaoTalk, and

WeChat), WhatsApp handles ten billion messages per day. According to the Financial

Times, WhatsApp "has done to SMS on mobile phones what Skype did to international

calling on landlines. The service is free for the first year then costs $0.99/Yr.

Everyone knows that WhatsApp is a great tool for messaging friends however what you

did not know is that WhatsApp can be used as campaign tool to generate marketing

leads. The App is free and it can serve as a strong marketing channel with the potential

of getting clients for your business more than anything else.

Why Choose WhatsApp for your marketing Campaign?

The App is almost free!

You can send large number of messages with no limits. It's available for all smartphone

platforms including iPhone, Android, Windows Mobile, Nokia, Blackberry, and Symbian.

Everyone is using it because you don't have to go to a website to fill in details or confirm

your identity to use it. It just needs your mobile number and you are done!

WhatsApp - The Next Generation Marketing Tool?

Using WhatsApp to promote businesses also has many advantages, because it has better

features than traditional SMS/MMS services offer.

WhatsApp supports many different message types, from simple text to pictures to audio

files. Usually a MMS message would cost a fair bit of money to send, so the fact that these

can be sent to as many customers and prospects as you like for free is great.

You can also send GPS location of your stores! Product videos, Product images and audio

messages (a short personal message from your CEO could be sent to multiple clients and

prospects at one go!) this wonderful App supports just everything. You can start your own

WhatsApp group and can invite your clients and prospects to join, or you could create

an internal marketing group which will help you stay connected with your campaign

peers 24/7.

So WhatsApp as a campaign tool can perform everything a traditional e-mail or SMS

campaign could do. To top it all Whatsapp is close to our hearts being a smartphone

app, many people can't take their hands off their phone because of this App. Hence

any message communicated through this medium has the most immediate and

maximum outreach.

2. IS THE GAME OVER FOR SMS TEXT?

SMS senders! Many of you may not know this (a quick Google might help), but SMS

actually stands for Short Message Service. Pretty nifty.

SMS is still a very popular and in my opinion, reliable way of communicating with

someone. However, since smartphones are so popular these days and data on phones

is going through the roof, services like WhatsApp and Ping have popped up.

These services replace SMS, basically. Judging by the App Store description, that's what

they aim to do as well. What WhatsApp and others like it do, is they allow you to send

messages to someone over the internet, using your data connection. Of course, the

recipient of your message has to have the application installed on their phone, as well.

So, most of us, at least in my country, have unlimited data plans. Considering WhatsApp

uses your phone's data connection to send messages, you can send unlimited messages!

So, knowing this, will you ever send an SMS again? Most likely not.

A lot of people have smartphones these days, so if you're in luck, and your friends have

smartphones with WhatsApp or something similar installed, you'll be able to send

messages - basically for free. I think you'll like that idea, won't you? Yeah, me to - don't

get me wrong. But.... your carrier might not be as impressed.

Carriers make a ' poo-ton ' of money from SMS. However, they get NOTHING when you

sent a message to your friend using something like WhatsApp. You pay, in most cases

anyway, a fixed amount of money for your data plan per month. So, basically..... You

can send a million messages for the price of whatever you pay for your data plan.

I think you get the picture... carriers are actually screwed out of some profit here. Should

you care? Not really. It's there problem, right? It is.

Can carriers do anything? Yes, and in countries like the United States and others, they

have. What they do is, they limit the amount of data you can use per month. So, instead

of unlimited, you may now use 2 GB of data and not a byte (or bit?) more.

Of course, they don't limit data plans just because of this. There are many other reasons.

However, the data cap is rather convenient for carriers to fight things like WhatsApp.

Don't worry however, if the only thing you do is message your mom then you shouldn't

worry. Messages are short, and text based, so they don't use a lot of data when being

sent. Data caps are especially annoying when you're a big user of video services

(YouTube, Netflix). Besides, I still use SMS if I really want someone to get something,

because WhatsApp can be unreliable at times.

I love WhatsApp, though. It's a terrific solution to communicate with friends and family. It

saves a LOT of money in some cases.

For example, if your friend lives abroad. Sending SMS to a foreign country can get pretty

expensive. But, if your friend’s phone is connected to the internet, he will receive your

message and it won't cost you a thing.

There is a lot to be said for apps like WhatsApp, but game over for SMS? Not necessarily

and not yet anyway.

3. FACETIME AND WHATSAPP - HOW TO COMMUNICATE FOR FREE

WITH YOUR IPHONE

The Apple iPhone 4S and up allows you to send and receive messages and carry out

phone calls using a number of different formats. This is achieved via both the standard

formats as well as those provided by apps downloaded from the AppStore. In this article

I will look at some of the communication apps available, so you can take advantage of

the benefits they bring.

FaceTime

The FaceTime app makes its first appearance on the iPhone 4S, working alongside the

handset's built in front facing camera. You can only use the app if the person you are

speaking to has a device with FaceTime (iPhone 4S, iPad, iPad 2 etc) and a front facing

camera. If they have, then you can carry out video calls over a Wi-Fi network, so you can

not only hear them but also see them in real time. This app is especially useful if you are

contacting someone oversees, as you can avoid the notoriously high call charges

associated with calling foreign number on a telephone. Because it is free, this app comes

highly recommended.

WhatsApp

This is an app which allows you to send and receive SMS and MMS messages for free.

Most iPhone 4S tariffs have an allowance of free messages included, but if you go over

this allowance, an app like WhatsApp can be very useful. Because the app uses a 3G or

Wi-Fi connection, messages incur no charges (although data charges may apply when

using 3G in certain situations. To be sure, use Wi-Fi whenever possible). This app costs $0.69

from the AppStore and I think this is very good value as you can use it to send an unlimited

number of text messages and media messages. You can only send messages using this

app if your intended recipient also has WhatsApp installed on their phone. WhatsApp is

also available for other operating systems like Android, so can also be used on phones

like the Samsung Galaxy S2, for example.

As you can see, there are more options for communication on the iPhone 4S than the

standard phone and message features. If you use apps like those outlined above wisely,

you can significantly reduce your monthly phone bill. These kinds of apps are great for

those who have lower allowances on their tariff or who use a Pay As You Go plan. There

are many more such apps on the AppStore which allow you to communicate for free

using an iPhone 4S; be sure to check out my other articles for details on some of these

YOU TO KNOW ABOUT

mobile apps:

1. WhatsApp - Free SMS

2. Yelo - Cheap Calls

Top 5 Smartphone Apps If you have a smartphone you might be surprised that there are apps on the market that

will allow you to make cheap calls, eliminate texting (SMS) cost, and allow you to have

free mobile data access. The smartphone apps that will help you save money are

sometimes the best-kept secrets around, so to help you make the best choice we provide

out top 5 apps:

1. WhatsApp - Free SMS

The first App that will save you money is called WhatsApp. WhatsApp allows you to never

pay for your texting (SMS) anymore. This is a cross platform (iOS/Android/) allowing you

to send instant messages to all of your contacts that also have WhatsApp. WhatsApp is

used by more than 200 million users globally, WhatsApp is a paid app ($0.99 or less). Go

data compression. As most operators are moving to a maximum data usage (mb) on the

mobile data plan, whereby you have to pay for the extra usage, Onavo ensures you get

the most out of your dataplan. Go to the Onavo website to download the app.

4. Fon - Free Mobile Data

Fon is a must-have app that will allow you to stop paying for mobile data. Fon gives you

free access to 7 million WiFi hotspots across the world. All you need to do is locate a Fon

hotspot and you will have free internet. All it requires for you is to become a Fon member

by buying a Fon router (Fonera). Fon has been signing deals with BT, MTS, Oi, SFT and

other operators, so expect them to get coverage in all major countries in the next years.

To download the app: www.fon.com.

5. WeFi - Free Hotspots

The fifth and final app is called WeFi. This is an app that will again help you to get free

data on your smartphone. This app has about 100 million Wi-Fi hotspots in their database.

Go to the WeFi website to download the app.

The above mobile apps will help you to reduce on your mobile cost, while getting the

maximum out of it.

A last tip is to always check on how to manually switch off mobile data or calling on your

phone when you start your travel or how to switch back to your own operator when

returning from travel. Smartphones nowadays are very smart, but somehow not smart

enough to ask you whether you would like to switch off mobile data or calling when you

are in roaming (not on a network of your operator). Or is this the killing feature for

operators to enjoy enormous margins?

Ever got a shock bill? Frustrated by the ever increasing telephone bill? It happens to all

of us.

If you have a smartphone you might be surprised that there are apps on the market that

will allow you to make cheap calls, eliminate texting (SMS) cost, and allow you to have

free mobile data access. All smartphone apps that will help you save money are

sometimes the best-kept secrets around.

5. BBM VS. WHATSAPP, WHICH ONE IS BETTER

It has been long that everyone was eagerly awaited for the BBM. Now it is finally

available for Android and iOS or iPhone users. Even though there are numerous

messaging services available but it seems that BBM has a strong competition

against WhatsApp. Then let us co

Page 10: The What'sApp! Review Report

BBM for privacy

If you are aiming at something that is more private then BBM is the right choice

for you. When you opt for this service, you will be using a unique PIN through which

you can get in touch with your contacts. This means that unless a friend has

accepted your request you will not be able to contact through BBM.

If you see it different then it seems a hassle as when you use WhatsApp you are

easily in touch with all on your phonebook. It is as simple as sending a message to

another user.

Contact grid

BBM seems to have a better contact grid as compared to WhatsApp. Here you

have a few chosen people to communicate with. However, with WhatsApp you

will have all on your contact grid. The common factor with both the chat

messengers seems to be adding your close friends and family. You can create a

list on your BBM or create Favorites in your WhatsApp.

Message Delivery

There is a distinct way these two apps behave when it comes to message delivery

notification or alerts regarding it.

WhatsApp alerts you when a user is online and their last seen time. With BBM, you

are not furnished such information but you will still know when another is available

or busy according to their current status.

For those who like online and last seen they can opt for WhatsApp, as the

information is always accurate.

BBM differs in its approach towards message delivery; you will get an R for read

receipt and D for delivery status. WhatsApp gives you single tick for message sent

and double for delivery.

For WhatsApp users they will only know if their message was read according to

last login time or last seen time of another user.

BBM offers you with an option of PING just like poke on Facebook this feature helps

you nudge another user.

Emoticons

The emoticon preference differs in both the messaging services but it boils down

to your own personal choice.

WhatsApp gives you smiley, animals, images and other emoticons to express

yourself. While BBM has limited number of selective emoticons.

Page 11: The What'sApp! Review Report

This is probably more down to personal emoticon preference than anything else,

but we have to say we prefer the options you get on WhatsApp compared to

BBM.

Chat Space

The chat space provided by WhatsApp is much more in comparison to what is

provided by BBM. The conversation bubbles in the chat are bigger.

If you are using a BlackBerry handset then you can change the text size or else

you will need to live up with it. The privilege of adding more conversation

messages is given to BlackBerry users.

Common factors

After comparing the two together, there are a few features that are common in

both the message services.

Creating and updating chat status that serves as an alert message to other users

about your current mood.

You can create groups in both the chat services but there are more attachment

options available with WhatsApp. You will be able to send images, video files,

audio notes, and media files. However, with BBM you only have the option of

audio, video and image files.

Conclusion – BBM vs WhatsApp

If you are using a BlackBerry handset then you have full functionality enabled in

BBM. Things like video, voice and screen share are yet to be introduced in BBM

chat for non-BlackBerry users. At present, this app is compatible with all platforms

just as WhatsApp.

BBM helps you communicate with iPhone and Android users. However, it seems

that WhatsApp chat is also available to all the users including iPhone, Android

and BlackBerry users. Both the apps are appropriate and work on cross-platform.

It seems that in the end it all depends upon personal choice of a user which app

they would like to choose.
