■ The US Department of Defense is to share datafrom its healthcare system with the US FDA with theaim of enhancing the agency’s medical product safetyreviews. General patient data from the US MilitaryHealth System, such as prescriptions and laboratorytest results, can be used by the FDA to identify anytrends that could signal possible concerns or benefitsof products. The partnership forms part of the FDA’sSentinel Network, which aims to create a seamlessnational electronic information network thatencompasses everything from new medical productinformation and patient care records to adverse eventreports, and domestic and foreign clinical trials.FDA.
