1. Construction started in 1896 and completed in 1906.
2. Seven wings in total, Center of which a tower which served as a intersection and was used by guards to keep watch on the inmates.
3. Each cell was 4.5 metres x 2.7 metres or 13.5x7.5 feet in size with a ventilator located at a height of three metres.
4. The name, "cellular jail", derived from the solitary cells which prevented any prisoner from communicating with any other.

Probably the only Author/ Person whose creation was banned maximum times* His biography of Mazzini (in Marathi) was banned in 1908.* Indian War of Independence 1857 was banned in 1909.* The Drama ‘Usshyap’ was banned. in 1927.* The magazine Shrddhanand run by Savarkar’s brother and which carried Savarkar’s articles was banned on 10 May 1930.* In July1931, his biography in Urdu was banned by Punjab Govt followed by bans on biographies in Tamil, Kannad, and Marathi. • After his release from Cellular Jail – he started to work for Hindu unity.
• He worked relentlessly for removing untouchability and Caste system.
• Started Patit Pavan temple in 1931 for all Hindus including untouchables. No temple like that existed.
• Savarkar practised ‘dining together’ of all Hindus since 16 November 1930. Such functions were not heard of even among the High caste Hindus
