The Interplay of Amino Acids, Cytokine Modulation and Botanicals in Autoimmune Conditions and the Implications for Clinical Practice
This workshop will explore both laboratory and clinical research, regarding the role of amino acids in autoimmune conditions and the control of cytokines that are essential in mediating inflammatory reactions. The interplay and activation of these immunomodulatory systems with botanicals will be discussed. Laboratory and case examples will be presented including Rheumatoid Arthritis, Lupus, Psoriasis, Hashimoto's Thyroiditis and Ulcerative Colitis.

Ancient Techniques in Modern Medicine: Abdominal Acupuncture & The Sacred Turtle In Chronic Disease and Pain Management
This session will explore the principles of the Sacred Turtle (as taught at the Zhejiang Hospital in Hangzhou China) including; the 3 levels of needle insertion and their indicated use, point location, general indications and contraindications, and how to achieve immediate pain relief using this technique. This session will provide practical information leading to powerful immediate and effective clinical results.

Natural Therapy for Chronic Inflammatory Conditions with Non-Thermal Laser This session will help you gain a basic understanding of photo medicine (light therapy) - how specific wavelengths of light stimulate natural responses of the body to accelerate healing and reduce inflammation. You will learn the key parameters of laser technology; difference between Class 3 non-thermal lasers (which are used for bio-stimulative light therapy) vs. Class 4 ablative surgical lasers, and other LED based technologies. This session will review clinical outcomes of non-thermal laser therapy with case studies.

The “Big Rocks” Cure For Chronic Disease – Diet, Exercise, Lifestyle In this session you will review the latest research on low-carb diets, exercise and lifestyle factors and their potential benefits for reversing chronic disease conditions. The “Big Rocks” - diet, exercise and lifestyle – are often the most powerful weapons for reversing and correcting chronic diseases. He will provide detailed strategies and protocols, as well as review difficult case studies, that can be implemented with patients to help reverse chronic disease progression and help patients achieve their health goals.

Hahnemannian Disease Classification, a framework for the development of a holistic understanding of a case and treatment of the cause
This session will demonstrate how to understand a case and address that which needs to be cured, thereby increasing the likely-hood of a positive outcome, minimizing trial and error and reducing costs. This session will review Hahnemann’s disease classification, the role of supression, environmental toxins, the issue of curability, and the role of palliation and prevention. Case examples will be examined in order to make what could be theoretical into a very practical and useable approach.

Patient Specific Botanical Compounding: From Intake Sheet to Prescription Pad
In this session the attendees will be taken through a multi-step template that helps them organize their information on the intake form and produce a program and prescription that they can be confidant in. Pathological conditions of chronic diseases will be described in their physiological expression and energetic patterns. Symptoms and lab work will be integrated into the picture. Causal nodes will be highlighted with secondary conditions and symptoms organically clustered together to establish a strategy and entrance point to the web of physiological activity. Herb lists cross-referenced by action and tissue tropism will be discussed. A deeper look into psychoneuroimmunology will give attendees insights to dealing with the complexities of chronic disease as it is expressed in different body systems simultaneously. What is the Vis saying? We will find out.

The Elephants in the Waiting Room- Environmental Exposures That Are Making Your Patients Sick
Most clinicians are aware of the standard environmental exposures that cause illness: mercury, lead, arsenic, solvents from cleaning products, etc. There are exposures however, that have not received the attention they deserve due to their immune destabilizing, GI tract altering, endocrine disrupting and mitochondrial poisoning effects. Because testing for these toxicants is not included in standard integrative laboratory testing, and education about assessment and treatment of their effects is lacking, they go undetected and untreated most of the time. This presentation will review the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment for conditions resulting from common exposures to mold and mycotoxins, glyphosate-contaminated foods, electromagnetic frequencies, and metals like thallium and manganese that are rarely treated but frequently encountered.

An Integrative Naturopathic Approach to Autoimmune Disease: Entering the New Proactive Era of Prediction
Autoimmune disease is a complex entity requiring clinicians to use a wide-lens perspective. This presentation will review a proactive integrative, systems biology approach to address autoimmune disease, including a suggested strategy, clinical algorithm, and discussion of why females are at increased risk. The role of estrogen and other hormones, the GI microbiota, food immune reactions, stealth infections and molecular mimicry in autoimmune disease pathogenesis will be explored along with how these may serve as leverage points for naturopathic clinical interventions. The hygiene hypothesis and changes in early environmental antigen exposure will also be explored. New opportunities for proactive screening for at-risk subjects for autoimmune disorders such as rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, inflammatory bowel diseases, diabetes, multiple sclerosis, lupus, and others using emerging predictive antibody testing will also be reviewed and discussed from the perspective of the naturopathic doctor.
