WANT TO HELP SOMEONE? SHUT UP AND LISTEN!

Dr. Ernesto Sirolli

Page 3: TED Talks by Shayne Miller

Traditionally when a person wants to help a colleague, they approach them with thoughtful ideas. Ernesto Sirolli explains why the best way to help someone is to embrace and help the growth of their own ideas, and keep your ideas to yourself. Simply, shut up and listen.

• I think Dr. Sirolli did a great job gaining attention from the audience by taking advantage of his accent with his grasping speaking voice. I found his Italian accent very catchy.

• He also had very good body language.

The art of story telling was one of his strongest points. He also drew attention by making the audience laugh and also had some more serious parts.

During his video, Dr. Sirolli used the 6th commandment to explain the topic.

• Thou shalt not flaunt thine ego. Be thou vulnerable. Speak of thy failure as well as thy success.

WHY A 5?I thought that Dr. Sirolli was a very clever speaker. His video was full of energy, very persuasive and kept my full attention. He made me laugh and also brought serious issues to my attention. He made me think and realize that helping someone is as easy as being quiet and listening to their needs.

Humor and storytelling are some of the main concepts used by Dr. Sirolli that were recommended by speakers Garr Reynolds and Nancy Duarte.

Some things that I have learned from Dr. Ernesto Sirolli as a speaker is that telling short stories and anecdotes and adding some humor can help go a long way. The stories help brings a better connection to the audience and humor makes the audience feel comfortable when listening.

I believe that Dr. Sirolli’s powerful body language and catchy accent gave him a edge over Sir Ken Robinson

Page 13: TED Talks by Shayne Miller

However, both Dr. Sirolli and Sir Ken Robinson had great stories and showed great humor witch made me want to listen even more.
