Have fun with the ELA Common Core Domains! Participants will learn about and create hands-on supplemental resources to enhance student thinking and learning, while incorporating the NYS ELA Common Core Domains. Teachers will have the opportunity to create activities, centers and games for use in their own classrooms. Literature resources from the Common Core will also be explained. Participants will learn how each grade level’s domains connect with one another, and have the op-

portunity to share ideas with other teachers through discussions in the workshop.

Let’s get wild about science! This workshop is an opportunity for classroom teachers to create sci-entific thinkers. Participants will learn about and create hands-on science experiences for their stu-dents, while incorporating the NYS ELA Common Core Domains. Teachers will have the opportunity

Presenters will provide and explain the NYS ELA Common Core domains for Pre-K teachers. Participants will learn about the benefits of scientific methods and how to get their students to

be scientific thinkers. Presenters will provide examples of science experiments/centers/games and how science can be

used in conjunction with NYS Common Core in their classrooms. Presenters will provide children’s literature to enhance scientific learning. Teachers will have the opportunity to create science ideas that incorporate NYS ELA Common

Core Domains. Teachers will have the opportunity to share ideas with other participants through discussions in

the workshop.

Have fun with the Common Core Math Modules! Participants will learn about and create hands-on supplemental resources to enhance student rhinking and learning, whilc incorporating the NYS Com-mon Core Math modules. Teachers will have the opportunity to create activitis, centers and games

for use in their own classrooms.

TEACHER CERTIFICATION UPDATES DIGNITY FOR ALL STUDENTS ACT (DASA) WORKSHOP

GTS BOCES is the local provider of this workshop. Register @ www.gstboces.org/dasa . Our session format is three hours in person then you complete three hours of training. Fee is $70.

AUTISM WORKSHOP

Since 2009, some candidates must complete the autism workshop for NYSED teacher certification. GST BOCES has been approved as a provider & will offer this three-hour workshop after August 1, 2015. http://www.highered.nysed.gov/tcert/autism.html Those that must complete this workshop include teacher of special education/students with disabilities, speech, deaf, the blind. For those pondering master’s degree colleges or majors, the information below may be of use. Many degree s must include 12 credits in your subject area.

PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATION PROCESS

If you have three years’ experience as a teacher & your master’s degree, you may be ready to ap-ply for the professional level certificate(s). Call Betty to discuss your needs. Or, if you wish to email her, note your request i.e. professional certification details, your complete name (as seen on TEACH), last four digits of your SS#, your phone & email.

Most candidates need: application/fee on TEACH, official master’s transcript, proof of 3 years as teacher, mentoring (district often enters on TEACH), & DASA workshop. Other items may be need-ed. NOTE: If you wish for GST BOCES to review your application for certification, you must select this BOCES (SSCTA) before you pay (on TEACH). Otherwise, only NYSED will review your applica-tion.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

New registration requirements for classroom teachers and school leaders holding a Permanent or Professional certificate, and Teaching Assistant Level III certificate holders will be required as of 7/1/16—each five year cycle will require 100 hours of professional development. YOUR TEACH ACCOUNT

Please be sure your name & address are correct/current on TEACH. Also, ensure a phone & email address are listed. If you request a name change on TEACH, you may scan one-page proof to NYSED to support that request (i.e. marriage registration certificate or divorce decree). Email to [email protected] . In the subject line, type: name change, then your first/last name & last 4 of your SS#. i.e. name change-Jane A Doe 1234. You do not need to purchase a new certificate but will want to ensure the TEACH database is correct & current.

edTPA Safety Net (applies only for those who need the edTPA exam)

If a candidate did not receive a passing score on the required edTPA by 6/30/15 & applies/meet all certification requirements by 6/30/16, s/he may use a passing score on the ATS-W in lieu of a passing score on the required edTPA. http://www.highered.nysed.gov/tcert/certificate/certexamsedtpa.html .
