Tata Safari Storme vs Mahindra XUV 500 – compared by Autoportal India

India is good market for SUVs as these vehicles can be used in any type of roads. Among

the utility vehicles available in the market the Tata Safari Storme and the Mahindra

XUV 500 are very popular. The 7-seater Tata Safari Storme launched in 2012 is the

successor to the popular Tata Safari. The Mahindra XUV 500 is a 7-seater SUV launched

in 2011.

The Safari Storme comes in 4 diesel variants priced Rupees 9.99 to 14.35 lakh with one

all-wheel drive variant. The XUV 500 refreshed and re-launched in May 2015 comes in 6

diesel variants priced Rupees 11.21 to 16.00 lakh. There are two all-wheel drive

transmission variants.

The Safari Storme has an aggressive grille, round projector type headlamps, round fog

lamps, bonnet with a slope line, a toughened laminated wind screen, body coloured door

handles and wider side steps. The better looking XUV 500 has a jaw shaped honeycomb

grille, two barrel shaped projector type headlamps with turn indicating and daytime

running lamps, and 3-compartmental tail lamps.

The XUV 500 is loaded with lots of cabin features. The basic features of the XUV 500

include a manual AC, fabric seat covers, a foldable rear seat 2 air bags, ABS, EBD, BA,

power windows, rear wiper and defogger, and electric ORVMs. Top variants have an

automatic AC, leather seats, ESP, rear parking sensors, 6 airbags, and a 2 Din music

system with touch controls, GPS navigational system and Bluetooth connectivity.

The standard features of the Storme include a manual AC, power windows, a fully

foldable rear seat and manually adjustable ORVMs. Higher variants have 2 air bags,

ABS, EBD, electric ORVMs and a 2 Din music system with Bluetooth connectivity.

The XUV 500 gives better mileages of 16 kmpl with 2.2 Litre engines than the 14 kmpl

(13.2 kmpl for all wheel drive variant) of the Storme powered by 2.2 litre engines. The

dimensions of the Storme are 4655 mm length, 2650 mm wheel base and 200 mm

ground clearance. The dimensions of the XUV500 are 4585 mm length, 1890 mm width,

1785 mm height and 200 mm ground clearance.

The suspensions of the Storme are independent double wishbone type with torsion bar

at the front and coil springs over shock absorbers at the rear. The suspensions of the

XUV are McPherson struts with anti-roll bar at the front and the multi-link type with

anti-roll bar at the rear.

The Tata Safari Storme is the best off-roading Indian vehicle with adequate safety

features and good after sales services. The XUV 500 is a new generation SUV from the

Mahindras with a stylish body and lot of features.
