Our part-time leisure courses give you the chance to learn new skills, meet new people and build your confidence, with the help of our supportive and experienced tutors.

We have some exciting courses on offer this year, which are supported by community learning funds. So whether it’s just for fun, for relaxation, out of interest, or even for a taster of a new direction in life, why not enrol on a course and see where it leads you…

British Sign Language – The Basics

An introductory course for those who want to learn British Sign Language or want to take a level 1 qualification. You will learn how to greet a British Sign Language user and hold a basic conversation with them. This course is suitable for total beginners who wish to develop their sign language skills for social or career use.

Creative Writing


This class will introduce you to some key writing techniques. The group will discuss short passages from a variety of authors as a source of inspiration and learning. Develop confidence in your work and as a writer and learn to deal with constructive criticism.

French – The Basics


Planning a holiday to France? Want to learn how to get by in French? In this structured introduction to written and conversational French, you will learn the basics such as how to book hotel rooms, buy travel tickets, order food and drinks, ask for directions and more. Build your confidence while having fun.

French – Improve your Skills


An opportunity to develop your basic skills in French, either as a follow-on for those who have completed French – The Basics or for those who already have some basic skills. Improve your conversational French and develop your written and reading skills in a relaxed and enjoyable environment.

Learn the basics about boating from an experienced expert. Listen to his stories and hear about activities which can improve your experience and develop an understanding of this hobby.



Makaton


The Makaton vocabulary uses signs and symbols to support the spoken language. It is designed to help adults and children who have language and learning difficulties to communicate. This course will introduce you to the basic Makaton vocabulary required to express ideas. It is ideal for parents, family members, carers and workers.

Spanish – The Basics

Design Your Garden

Beautify your home and unleash your creativity with one of the easiest and most rewarding forms of gardening. Our award-winning garden designer and horticulturalist will provide tips on successful gardening and how to choose what to plant. Try out different foliage and bloom combinations and learn which plants suit different types of garden, climates and containers.

Guitar – Beginners


If you’ve always wanted to learn to play the guitar, this is the course for you. Learn basic guitar skills, rhythms, chords, sequences and simple songs in several styles, including rock, pop and blues. Suitable for adults for all ages. Steel-strung acoustic guitars required.

Guitar – Improvers


This course is for those who want to move on after attending the beginners course or those who already have some basic skills. Start to tackle more complex chord sequences, rhythms and songs, in various musical genres. Improve your skills in a fun, relaxed environment under expert guidance.

A steel and nylon strung acoustic guitar is required.
