Our Mission Statement

The Shakespeare's Sister Company is a not for profit company dedicated to women in the theater producing plays by female authors and William Shakespeare. Our commitment is to address global change through the

theater, including empowerment workshops and literacy for youth.

Our patron saint is one of the world's greatest pioneers of the literary and intellectual community, Mrs. Virginia Woolf. In her essay "A Room of One's Own", she refers to herself as "Shakespeare's Sister," examining

women and their struggles as artists in literary history. Mrs. Woolf represents the independent thinking, leadership and passion that the

Shakespeare’s Sister Company exhibits.

About the SSC

Since 2008, the Shakespeare’s Sister Company operates as an incorporated not-for-profit theater company in the state of New York and is fiscally

sponsored through Fractured Atlas, a not-for-profit 501c3 arts service organization.

Fractured Atlas will receive grants on behalf of the Shakespeare’s Sister Company, provide insight to ensure that the grant funds are

used in accordance with agreements and provide reports as required by the grantor.

Contributions on behalf of Shakespeare's Sister Company may be made payable to Fractured Atlas and are tax-deductible

to the extent permitted by law.

OUR ADVISORY BOARD

The Shakespeare’s Sister Company Advisory Board, includes the generous support of

award-winning actress, Shirley Knight. In Fall of 2009, Ms. Knight conducted a

Shakespeare workshop as a benefit for the Shakespeare’s Sister Company at the

Producer’s Club in New York City. To advise us regarding producing theater for the

stage is Royal Shakespeare Company actor, Bill Homewood. Finally, the Shakespeare’s

Sister Company education mentor is Dr. Patricia Clark, the Head of the Theater

Education department at East Carolina University.

BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Kris Lundberg, President, Artistic Director: Kris serves as the President, Founder and Artistic Director of

the Shakespeare’s Sister Company. Kris has worked as a professional actress, playwright and teaching artist

with several grassroots not-for-profit theater companies in the five boroughs of New York. In 1998, her stage

play Feathers received high acclaim from London’s Time Out for her production run at the Link Theater in

London, UK. In 2000, Kris was awarded a community award for her puppet show Scamper and Champ that

toured the North Carolina coast teaching children about coping with grief caused by the devastation of

hurricanes. In 2009, she was awarded the Certificate of Appreciation Plaque by CAMBA for her Women’s

Theater Workshop job development program. This past year, Kris was nominated for both the Brooklyn Do-

Gooder Awards and the Union Square Awards for her Arts in the Shelters outreach programs. Kris holds a

Bachelor of Science in Theater Education from East Carolina University.

Effie Philippakos, Director of Marketing: Effie serves as the Director of Marketing for the Shakespeare’s

Sister Company, as well as on our Board of Directors. She has over fifteen years of experience working in

marketing, analytics and business development. Currently, she works as the Director of Marketing at Gain

Capital, where she has been since 2005. Effie holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Economics from

Rutgers and a Masters of Arts in Applied Economics from Florida State University.

Maria Lundberg, Director of Public Relations: Maria serves as the Director of Public Relations for the

Shakespeare’s Sister Company, as well as on the Board of Directors. She has over twenty years of experience

in public relations and mass communication. Maria joined the faculty at Francis Marion University in 2007 as

Assistant Professor of Broadcast Journalism. Prior to moving into the world of academia in 2002, she worked

in the field of Broadcasting for 17 years as an associate producer for KTVY-TV (Oklahoma City, OK), Co-

Anchor for KHBS-TV (Fort Smith, AK) and Evening News Anchor for KTEN-TV (Ada, OK). In 1998, she

made the transition from commercial television to public television, working as a producer-reporter for North

Carolina’s PBS network where she continues to produce freelance reports for the nightly newsmagazine

program, North Carolina Now. Through the years, Maria has received several awards for her work, including

the Oklahoma Association of Broadcasters Award for Outstanding Achievement in Children’s Programming,

ITVA Silver Reel Award for her documentary script for Rodin: A Man of Passion, and a nomination for the

Southeastern Regional Emmy for the script of the documentary program Lumina: Remembering the Light.

Maria holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in French and Education from the University of Connecticut and a

Master of Arts degree in Journalism and Mass Communications from the University of Oklahoma.
