Die Supermarine Spitfire wurde während der gesamten Dauer des Krieges in vielen Versionen hergestellt. Aus einigen ihrer Jagdversionen wurden Hochleistungs-Aufklärungsflugzeuge entwickelt. Im Jahre 1942 wurde in die Zelle der Spitfire Mk.V der Motor Merlin 61 eingebaut. Daraus ist die Jagdversion Mk.IX entstanden. Auf ihrer Grundlage wurde unter anderem die Aufklärungsvariante PR Mk. X gebaut. Außer den standardgemäßen Adaptationen, wie es die Beseitigung der Bewaffnung, die Montage von Kammern in den Rumpf und von Behältern in den Flügeln und die Vergrößerung der Ölbehälter unter dem Motor waren, wurden in diese Spitfire eine Überdruckkabine vom Typ Lobelle installiert. Dies ist äußerlich nur durch den Luftfänger auf der rechten Seite des Rumpfes unter dem Auspuff aufgefallen. Diese Überdruckkabine hat die volle Ausnutzung der Leistungen der Spitfire ermöglicht. Es wurden 16 Stück dieser Spezialversion gebaut. Sie sind in der Farbe PRU Pink gehalten worden. Diese Version ist die letzte, für die PRU Pink verwendet wurde. Die hergestellten Maschinen wurden in der 541. und 542 sq. der RAF bis zum Ende des zweiten Weltkrieges zur Aufklärung verwendet. Schrittweise wurden sie aber noch durch die leistungsstärkere Spitfire Mk. XIX ersetzt. Spannweite: 11,23 m, Länge 9,54 m, Höchstgeschwindigkeit 680 km/h, Dienstgipfelhöhe 13400 m.Reichweite max. 3200 km

Supermarine Spitfire byl vyráběn po celou dobu války v mnoha verzích. Z některých jeho stíhacích verzí byly vyvinuty vysokovýkonné průzkumné letouny. V roce 1942 byl do draku Spitfiru Mk.V zamontován motor Merlin 61. Vznikla tak stíhací verze Mk.IX. Na jejím základě byly stavěna mimo jiné průzkumná varianta PR Mk. X. Kromě standardních úprav, jako bylo odstranění výzbroje, montáž kamer do trupu a nádrží do křídla, zvětšení olejové nádrže pod motorem, byla do těchto Spitfirů instalována přetlaková kabina typu Lobelle. Ta se zevně projevila pouze lapačem vzduchu na pravé straně trupu pod výfuky. Přetlaková kabina umožnila plné využití výkonů Spitfiru. Postaveno bylo 16 kusů této speciální verze. Létaly natřeny barvou PRU Pink. Tato verze je poslední, na které byla PRU Pink používána. Vyrobené stroje byly používány 541. a 542.sq. RAF k průzkumu až do konce druhé světové války, postupně je alenahrazovaly ještě výkonnější Spitfiry Mk. XIX. Rozpětí: 11,23 m, délka 9,54 m, max. rychlost 680 km/h, dostup 13400 m, dolet max. 3200 km.

The Supermarine Spitfire was manufactured for the entire period of the war in many versions. Several of its fighter versions formed the basis of high-performance reconnaissance planes. In 1942 a Merlin 61 engine was mounted onto the Spitfire Mk.V and the Mk.IX thus came into being. Amongst other variants, the PR Mk. X reconnaissance plane was built on the basis of this plane. Apart from the standard modifications, such as the removal of the armaments, the mounting of a camera onto the fuselage and a fuel tank onto the wing, and the increased volume of the tank under the engine, a pressurised Lobelle cabin was installed on these Spitfires. This simply served to intercept the air on the right hand side of the fuselage under the exhaust. The pressurised cabin made for the full use of the Spitfire's performance. Sixteen planes were built of this special version. They flew painted in PRU Pink. This is the last version on which this paint was used. The planes manufactured were used by 541st and 542nd squadrons of the RAF for reconnaissance purposes until the end of the second world war and were gradually replaced by the even more powerful Spitfire Mk. L'appareil Supermarine Spitfire a été fabriqué pendant toute la durée de la guerre dans de nombreuses versions. A partir de certaines de ses versions de chasse, des avions de reconnaissance ŕ haute performance ont été développés. En 1942, dans l'appareil Spitfire Mk.V a été monté le moteur Merlin 61 donnant naissance ŕ la version de chasse Mk.IX. Sur sa base, entre autres, la version de reconnaissance PR Mk.X a été construite. En dehors des modifications standards telles que la suppression de l'armement, la pose des caméras dans la carlingue et des réservoirs dans les ailes, l'augmentation du réservoir ŕ l'huile sous le moteur, la cabine ŕ surpression du type Lobelle a été installée dans ces Spitfires. Sur le plan de l'extérieur, cela s'est manifesté uniquement par un pičge ŕ air au côté droit du fuselage sous les échappements. La cabine ŕ surpression a permis d'utiliser intégralement la performance des Spitfires. Au total, 16 pičces de cette version spéciale ont été construites.
