School of EducationHofstra’s School of Education faculty are dedicated to providing students with preparation and practical experience needed to succeed in today’s world with cutting-edge curricula and state-of-the-art facilities.

Faculty prepare reflective teachers and leaders for complex educational organizations in diverse and multicultural environments. Student teaching and pre-service classroom observations create a clinically rich experience for our students.

FacultyNational and international scholars whose research isfrequently site-based to produce the data that drive policy.

Facilities• Hagedorn Hall, home of the School of Education – STEM Studio: a state-of-the art, hands-on laboratory

that brings together teachers and students to focus on problem-based teaching and learning for grades 3-8.

– iDesign Maker Space Lab: includes emerging technologies that faculty, students and the K-12 community can experience. Technology includes: 3D printer, drawing tablet, a suite of game design tools, space for team meetings, virtual reality headset and music recording.

• Joan and Arnold Saltzman Community Services Center at Hofstra

– The center provides Hofstra students with a multidisciplinary setting and opportunity for experiential learning, including a preschool and child care center.

– Reading/Writing Learning Clinic: Students provide literacy support to children, adolescents and adults.

Student Organizations• Hofstra Network of Elementary Teachers (HNET): Hofstra

pre-service teachers and alumni of Hofstra’s undergraduate and graduate elementary education programs, as well as their colleagues.

• Professional associations, including Phi Delta Kappa International.

• Several outreach programs and initiatives to help educate, inspire and engage young students in the local community.

Accreditation• The Teacher Education and Educational Leadership

programs of the School of Education are fully accredited by the Teacher Education Accreditation Council (TEAC), through the CAEP accreditation system.

• Our individual programs have been approved by the New York State Education Department.

Student ScholarshipsScholarship offerings for undergraduates include:

• Hagedorn Teacher Fellowship Program.

• The Robert Noyce Scholarship & Fellowship Programs, funded by the National Science Foundation.

• TEACH Grant.

Career/Support Services• Office of Field Placement collaborates with local

schools, businesses and programs to find placements, and provides continuous communication, assessment and feedback during the process.

• Office of Educational Support Services provides students with access to program and credentialing information and services.
