O God, you listen in love to the cry of your people: hear the prayers we offer for our departed brothers and sisters. Cleanse them of their sins and grant them the fullness of re-demption. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

CALLED BY GOD Today's scriptures invite us to listen to two calls. The first is the call issued by the LORD to the prophet Amos, the "shepherd and a dresser of sycamores" (Amos 7:14). The second is the call the Lord Jesus issued to the Twelve, whom he sent out "two by two" (Mark 6:7). These faithful people responded to the call, prophesying and preaching to the people to whom they had been sent. Each of us received a call when we were baptized. The second reading invites us to ponder that call as we are reminded that we are chosen in Christ and that, in love, God "destined us for adoption" (Ephesians 1:5). As adopted daughters and sons of God we are called to bring the presence of Christ into our marriages, families, schools, and places of work. Let us be inspired today to say yes to the call we hear once again through God's living word.

“NGƯỜI CHỈ THỊ CHO CÁC ÔNG…” “Người gọi Nhóm Mười Hai lại và bắt đầu sai đi từng hai người một. Người ban cho các ông quyền trừ quỷ. Người chỉ thị cho các ông…” (Mc 6,7-8) Suy niệm: Chúa Giê-su sai Nhóm Mười Hai ra đi rao giảng “với quyền trừ quỷ”. Sứ mệnh đặc biệt này được kèm theo bởi một chỉ thị cụ thể và chi tiết, liên quan đến việc phải ăn mặc thế nào, được mang theo những gì, trú ngụ ở đâu, và cả khi bị tẩy chay thì phải ứng xử thế nào. Phải chăng Chúa Giê-su quá câu nệ những việc có vẻ tiểu tiết chi li ấy? Thế nhưng, sự thật là sứ mạng loan báo Tin Mừng và tiễu trừ ma quỷ hết sức quan trọng và cấp bách lại có nguy cơ bị đình trệ bởi vì những lý do nhỏ nhặt như vậy; và Ngài không muốn sứ mạng cao cả lại trở nên nặng nề, trở ngại vì sự níu kéo của “bao bị, giầy dép, miếng ăn, manh áo” hay của bất cứ thứ lợi lộc, tiếng khen nào khác. Những thứ đó làm cho người môn đệ Chúa bị tê liệt, không còn hứng khởi, không cảm thấy hạnh phúc và vì thế, không còn thiết tha với việc loan báo Tin Mừng.

Mời Bạn: Lòng đam mê danh vọng, ham muốn hưởng thụ lạc thú, của cải trần gian cũng như sự cậy dựa vào những phương thế trần tục là những chướng ngại nghiêm trọng cho công cuộc loan báo Tin Mừng. Cần phải có tinh thần siêu thoát đối với những điều đó mới có thể đáp lại mệnh lệnh của Chúa Ki-tô qua lời mời gọi của vị chủ chăn “đi ra đến vùng ngoại biên”, để ưu tiên đến với những người nghèo khó, hèn mọn.

Sống Lời Chúa: Thường xuyên thực hành những hy sinh từ bỏ nho nhỏ mỗi ngày để cầu nguyện cho việc loan báo Tin Mừng.

Cầu nguyện: Lạy Chúa Giê-su, xin cho con luôn đồng cảm với trái tim Chúa, để con hăng say loan báoTinMừng.

LLAMADOS POR DIOS Las lecturas de hoy nos invitan a escuchar dos llamados. El primero es el llamado del Señor al profeta Amós, el "pastor y cultivador de higos" (Amós 7:14). El segundo es el llamado del Señor Jesús a los Doce, a quienes envió "de dos en dos" (Marcos 6:7). Estas personas fieles respondieron al llamado, profetizaron y predicaron a aquellos a quienes habían sido enviados. En el Bautismo, cada uno de nosotros recibió un llamado. La segunda lectura nos invita a reflexionar so-bre ese llamado ya que se nos recuerda que hemos sido elegidos en Cristo y que, por amor, Dios "nos eligió... para que fuéramos sus hijos" (Efesios 1:5). Por ser hijos adoptivos de Dios se nos llama a llevar la presencia de Cristo a nuestro matrimonio, familiares, escuelas y sitios de trabajo. Sintámonos inspirados a decir "sí" hoy al llamado que escuchamos una vez más en la palabra viva de Dios.

TRADICIONES DE NUESTRA FE Mañana celebramos la fiesta de Nuestra Señora del Carmen, reconocida en Chile como Maipú. Chile es un país con mucha industria marinera y la Virgen del Carmen es la patrona de los marineros por el peligro al cual se exponen en el mar. Los frailes Carmelitas han difundido la devoción a la Virgen del monte Carmelo desde el siglo XIII. En aquella época María regaló el escapulario al general de los Carmelitas, Simón Stock, prometiendo que todos los que lo usasen serían recibidos por ella en el cielo, evitando así el infierno. Con el tiempo el escapulario Carmelitano se modificó para uso de todo cristiano. Por esto ella es patrona de todo oficio que tiene peligro de muerte como el de los soldados, camioneros, pilotos, troqueros, etc. Por entender el escapulario como algo mágico, Nuestra Señora del Carmen ha sido tomada como patrona de los pandil-leros porque viven en peligro de ser matados en sus riñas callejeras. Piensan que llevar puesto el escapulario es lo nece-sario para evitar el infierno e ignoran que usar el escapulario es vivir como María, en paz y al servicio de los demás. --Fray Gilberto Cavazos-Glz, OFM
