EARLY LIFE OF ROMULUS PART 1

Romulus was born with his brother Remus probably on 27/28 March 771 BCE, by their mother, Rhea Silvia, and their father, the god Mars, the demi-god Hercules, or possibly Amulius. Then, when they were born, Amulius, Rhea Silvia’s uncle, abandoned them in the river Tiber to die, but miraculously they were saved by a series of interferences, first the river carried them to safety, then a female wolf suckled them, and a woodpecker fed them. After that Faustulus, a shepherd, and his wife found and raised them until adulthood.

EARLY LIFE OF ROMULUS PART 2

In those days shepherds had a hard life due to bandits that stole their livestock and other items of value to them, but Faustulus, the shepherd, was in good hands because Romulus and Remus were great at stealing from the bandits. One day they were not so fortunate, and were surprised by about thirty bandits and their leader, Josephus. After killing around twenty of them, their swords finally broke, and Remus was captured. The bandits planned to frame Remus for the crimes they committed, but this is where the bandits are not lucky, for the landowner of the area where all the crimes were committed was Romulus and Remus’s grandfather, Numitor, or the rightful king of Alba Longa.

Remus was captured by shepherds and was brought to Amulius, their great uncle, who believed him to be a thief, but they soon found out his true identity. Though meanwhile, Romulus was raising a group of shepherds to help rescue Remus, when they were ready they went to rescue Remus. They fought, and Romulus’s team of shepherds defeated Amulius and his guards, and restored Numitor to his throne.

ROMA

Romulus and Remus started a city of their own and both wanted to start it at different places (Palatine and Aventine hill). They decided to settle it by divine augury, and Romulus won ( in the sense that he had saw more birds than Remus) They fought over the subject, and still could not come to an agreement. Finally, something happened that settled it. Remus jumped over the trench that separated the two hills, and Romulus killed him.
