This document provides functional and technical details pertaining to the new features and enhancements that are planned for PeopleSoft Enterprise PeopleTools 8.47. It is intended to help you assess the business benefits of PeopleSoft Enterprise PeopleTools 8.47 and to plan your information technology (IT) projects and investments.

The new features and enhancements that are included in this release are grouped according to functional area. Release Value Proposition

The release value proposition identifies major enhancements, and articulates the expected business benefit. This document is designed to help you to determine whether new product features might warrant upgrading from an old release or embarking on a new PeopleSoft implementation. With this information, managers will be able to initiate preliminary budget planning and begin putting together a project team to further evaluate specific PeopleSoft products. The release value proposition is usually the first section of the release notes.

Release notes are published at GA and validate the final scope of the release. The release notes discuss the features and enhancements that are available with the GA release of each product, describing the finalized functional and technical details that will enable project teams to confirm budgets and complete implementation plans.

Enterprise PeopleTools 8.47 focuses on continuing to improve the overall value of your PeopleSoft implementation by lowering your total cost of ownership, extending the PeopleSoft service enabled architecture and increasing customer choice with respect to technology configuration and deployment options. Many of the enhancements of this release revolve around providing increased interoperability through the certification and integration of Oracle’s Industry leading Fusion Middleware Product Suite with your PeopleSoft system. In addition to the normal process of including accumulated bug fixes, we have listened to customer feedback and added features that we believe will help you more easily integrate your heterogeneous environments and run your business more efficiently and cost effectively.

The primary value of Enterprise PeopleTools 8.47 is grounded in the addition of technology options and enhancements that reduce ongoing operating costs and provide a foundation for and a bridge to Oracle’s future application architecture, which incorporates Oracle, PeopleSoft, and JD Edwards applications into an integrated architecture running on Oracle’s next-generation technology stack. The new Oracle Fusion Middleware infrastructure options deployed with Enterprise PeopleTools 8.47 will be supported and leveraged by our next generation applications. In short, Enterprise PeopleTools 8.47 continues to deliver unparalleled customer choice that ensures support of the latest technical innovation with the industry’s lowest cost of ownership.

Server Administration This section discusses:

Oracle Application Server

With Enterprise PeopleTools 8.47, the Oracle Application Server 10g will be supported, giving you an additional web server option. All capabilities currently provided by PeopleSoft running on IBM WebSphere and BEA WebLogic will also be available on Oracle Application Server.

Oracle Application Server Licensing

PeopleSoft customers are granted a license of Oracle Application Server Java Edition for use exclusively with PeopleSoft Enterprise at no additional cost. PeopleSoft Enterprise customers can choose Oracle Application Server Java Edition as an alternative to BEA WebLogic or IBM WebSphere for use with PeopleSoft Enterprise.



This license is provided solely for use with PeopleSoft Enterprise, and any other use of Oracle Application Server Java Edition outside of use with PeopleSoft Enterprise requires the purchase of an Oracle Application Server license. Please note that a separate installation of Oracle Application Server Java Edition is required for use with PeopleSoft Enterprise.

Oracle Application Server 10g offers a comprehensive solution for developing, integrating, and deploying your enterprise's applications, portals, and web sites. It is all based on a powerful and scalable J2EE server, complete business integration and business intelligence suites, and best-of-breed portal software. As the only platform designed for grid computing and providing full Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) lifecycle support, Oracle Application Server gives you unmatched scalability, availability, manageability, and security.

If you intend to use the Oracle Application Server as your web server choice, you will also be able to take advantage of these industry-leading, Oracle products, which will be certified to run with your PeopleSoft system:

• Oracle Containers for J2EE (OC4J).

• Oracle Identity Management.

• Oracle Portal.

• Oracle Integration.

• Oracle BPEL Process Manager.

The Oracle Application Server will be bundled with your PeopleTools shipment, and the PeopleTools install program will install all PeopleSoft components onto the Oracle Application Server where they will run “out of the box.”

Note. The OC4J component will be bundled and delivered with a license for use with all PeopleSoft Enterprise applications.

Setting up PeopleBooks on Oracle Application Server

If you intend to install PeopleBooks on Oracle Application Server 10g, you must follow the additional steps required for Oracle Application Server 10g described in the “Installing PeopleBooks” appendix of your Enterprise PeopleTools 8.47 Installation guide.

Configuring OAS to Proxy for the REN Server

If your site uses Oracle Application Server (OAS) as the PIA/Portal web server, then a special proxy configuration is required to work with the REN server. OAS automatically deploys the Oracle HTTP Server (OHS), an Apache-based reverse proxy server. OHS will proxy requests to the PIA Web Application. To have OHS proxy for the REN Server also, find and edit the httpd.conf and mod_oc4j.conf configuration files, as described in the following procedure.

To modify the httpd.conf and mod_oc4j.conf file for REN Server:

1. Comment out LoadModule proxy_module modules/ApacheProxyModule.dll (libexec/libproxy.so on Unix) in httpd.conf and move this line to the top of mod_oc4j.conf.

2. Comment out the line AddModule mod_proxy.c in httpd.conf if it exists, and comment out <IfModule mod_proxy.c> section in httpd.conf if it exists.

3. Add the following lines to the Virtual Host section in mod_oc4j.conf, and modify them to suit your environment.

<IfModule mod_proxy.c> ProxyRequests Off ProxyPass /psren http://machine:7180/psren ProxyPassReverse /psren http://machine:7180/psren </IfModule>

4. Run the ORACLE_HOME/dcm/bin/dcmctl updateconfig command since the httpd.conf file was modified.

5. Reboot OAS and the Oracle HTTP Server, and also run the “dcmctl updateConfig” command since the httpd.conf file was manually edited.

Installation and Configuration Considerations

This section discusses some topics that may aid in your implementation of the OAS for your PeopleSoft applications.

Installing OAS

In some case during the PeopleSoft Internet Architecture (PIA) installation, the HTTP server fails to restart due to a timeout. This can cause a misleading error message indicating that the PIA install failed. In this case, the PIA installation is successful, and it is recommended to restart the HTTP server using the following command:

$ORACLE_HOME/opmn/bin/opmnctl startall



Installing OAS on Windows

After a successful install of the Oracle Application Server on Windows, in some cases the system has been reported to check the floppy drive continuously.

To resolve the issue apply Microsoft Hot Fix 842900 from the following URL:

Installing OAS on UNIX

• On UNIX, make sure that the web server domain is included in the /etc/hosts file before you install PeopleSoft on OAS.

• On some UNIX platforms, if the platform has a patch level greater than the required patch level for OAS, silent install of OAS fails with an error indicating that that the appropriate patch level is missing. If you are sure that all the required patches are available, during silent install, when prompted if the system pre-requisites check needs to be run, specify "no" instead of the default "yes" and continue with the installation.

Installing OAS on Solaris

In some cases, when installing OAS 10.1.2.00 on Solaris 10, the OAS HTTP Server fails to restart. A patch is available.

Download the patch 4025481 from the Oracle website:

Follow the instructions in README.txt to apply the patch.

Modifying Application Server Logging

When installing PeopleSoft on OAS, the system adds an <access_log> entry in the following file:

<oracle_home>\j2ee\<APP>\config\default-web-site.xml

This causes every HTTP request to be logged to the following log file:

<oracle_home>\j2ee\<APP>\log\<APP>_default_island_1\default-web-access.log

However, Apache already logs every request to:

<oracle_home>\Apache\Apache\logs

If you want to disable this duplicate logging, complete the following procedure:

To disable <access_log>:

1. Open Enterprise Manager.

2. Click PeopleSoft.

3. Click on the Administration link.



4. Click the Advanced Properties link under Instance Properties.

5. Click on the default-web-site.xml link and then comment out the <access_log> entry.

6. Restart the instance.

Deploying an EAR File to a Remote Server on Windows

When deploying an EAR file to a remote server on Windows, copy the remote EAR file from the remote machine to the local machine and then deploy the EAR file.

Ensuring Proper PSEMHUB Installation

After the PeopleSoft installation on Oracle Application Server, the following line should appear in the PSEMHUB orion-web.xml file:

<web-app-class-loader search-local-classes-first="true"/>

This file is located in:

j2ee/<component name>/application-deployment/<application name>/PSEMHUB/orion-web.xml

If the line is missing, manually add this line and restart the component.

Ensuring Proper Virtual Host References

During PeopleSoft Internet Architecture install, two VirtualHost entries are created per OC4J component in the mod_oc4J.conf file (<oracle_home>\Apache\Apache\conf\mod_oc4j.conf). When this component is removed either from the command line (using dcmctl) or using Application Server Control, these VirtualHost entries are not removed from this file. In most cases, subsequent PeopleSoft Internet Architecture installs will remove these entries before creating a new set of VirtualHost entries.

However, if the PeopleSoft Internet Architecture install program fails to remove these previous entries, causing PeopleSoft to be inaccessible, you need to edit the mod_oc4J.conf file manually. Remove any unused VirtualHost entries (entries that correspond to removed OC4J components) and restart the Http_Server component.

SunOne Proxy Servers

In some cases, the PeopleSoft style sheet is not loading properly when using a SunONE RPS for OAS when a PeopleSoft application is accessed using certain versions of the Microsoft Internet Explorer browser.

To resolve this issue, disable compression in the Web Profile.

Multiple Domains

If the host is configured to have multiple domains, PeopleSoft can be accessed using the host name as set in the ServerName attribute of the mod_oc4j.conf file.



In order for PIA to work with a different domain suffix for the host, open $ORACLE_HOME/Apache/Apache/conf/mod_oc4j.conf and replace the ServerName attribute value such that the host will have a correct suffix for the domain name.

BEA WebLogic

This section covers updates related to BEA WebLogic.

Downloading BEA WebLogic 8.1 SP4

In PeopleTools 8.47, we support WebLogic BEA WebLogic 8.1 SP4 and SP3.

SP4 is not shipped with the Enterprise PeopleTools 8.47 CDs. If you intend to use SP4, download the software from our FTP site.

Ensuring JDK Support for WebLogic on UNIX

If you intend to use the PeopleSoft WSRP features and your web server is running WebLogic on UNIX, you need to download the appropriate JDK for your environment. The JDK’s compiler (javac) is required by the WSRP features for PeopleSoft applications to compile JSPs at runtime.

Note. PeopleSoft is not licensed to ship your vendor’s JDK for the UNIX environment.

WebLogic Clustering Considerations

After the clustering is setup, if a managed server is brought down and brought back up, in some cases it fails to boot, showing an authentication error. If this happens, modify the boot.properties file, replacing the encrypted username and password with a non-encrypted username and password.

PeopleSoft MultiChannel Framework

This section describes changes to the PeopleSoft MultiChannel Framework.

New CTI Functionality

PeopleSoft CTI now has the ability to:

• Transmit DTMF data.

• Handles Outbound calls from automated system.

New REN Server Configuration Parameter

A new REN server configuration parameter, “mtu_size” is added in PeopleTools 8.47. This parameter is in psrenconfig.txt, but commented out by default. It should be uncommented for CTI applications, and its value should be set to MTU (Maximum Transmission Unit) of the machine hosting the REN server. By default, this parameter is not enabled in the REN server, and should be enabled only if the REN server is used in CTI applications.

The parameter, “mtu_size” improves the performance of REN server communications with the PSMCAPI interface. Normally, REN server responds to PSMCAPI with relatively small TCP packets (100-300 bytes), incurring a TCP Delayed Ack in the network interface card of the PSMCAPI machine (200 milliseconds on Windows).

The parameter, “mtu_size” causes REN server to increase its response size to be slightly larger than the MTU, thus eliminating the acknowledgement delay.



New Parameters in the renclient.properties file

mtu_size

The mtu_size parameter has been added to the renclient.properties file. The mtu_size parameter should be set to the MTU (Maximum Transmission Unit) size of the machine running the PSMCAPI application. It is meant to be used in conjunction with the mtu_size parameter on the REN server. This parameter controls the minimum size of the TCP packets sent from PSMCAPI. Similar to the REN server parameter, if this parameter is not set, packets smaller than the MTU size would incur a TCP delayed acknowledgement and slow down response time from the PSMCAPI application. The default value for this parameter is 1300, which is a typical MTU size for a Windows machine. However, your machine may be set to use a different MTU size, and the mtu_size parameter will need to be adjusted accordingly.

heart_beats_to_miss

The heartbeats_to_miss parameter has been added to the renclient.properties file. The parameter heartbeats_to_miss controls how long PSMCAPI will wait for a heartbeat from a client/console before considering the console session for deletion. The value of heartbeats_to_miss is the number of heartbeat intervals that PSMCAPI will wait. The default is 2.

Registering Extensions to Sessions

The Register Extension to Session, and Extension Operation box has changed.

The following options now appear after Line 1 or Line 2:

• DTMF Info: DTMF Digits can be sent on the line.



• CallResult: Call result on the line can be set using this.

• ReScheduleTime: Reschedule time can be set on the line.

• Type: Reschedule type can be set on the line.

PeopleSoft Performance Monitor

Performance Monitor relies on the mapping used by the Master Scheduler to determine the number of queued requests in a database. When a large volume of requests exists in the database, note that the map used by Performance Monitor in PeopleTools 8.47 only contains the first 1000 requests.



Security Enterprise PeopleTools 8.47 provides these enhancements to our security technology:

• Oracle-PeopleSoft single-signon.

• Triple DES encryption.

• Purging Inactive Users.

• USER_PROFILE Message changes.

Oracle-PeopleSoft Single-Signon

Enterprise PeopleTools 8.47 will provide the option to use the single-signon feature of Oracle Identity Management. Using Oracle Internet Directory (OID) as a common repository for user credentials enables single-signon between Oracle and PeopleSoft Enterprise applications without requiring re-authentication.

With the adoption of this feature, you now have the following single-signon implementation options.

• PeopleSoft-only. This option refers to the current single-signon configuration used with PeopleSoft applications. If you currently use the PeopleSoft single-signon solution and don’t require single-signon between Oracle and PeopleSoft applications you will not be required to make any changes to your configuration.

• Implementing Oracle as a Trusted Node. This option enables single-signon from Oracle to PeopleSoft applications, and enables the use of a delivered plug-in. For example, with this option implemented, users who have been authenticated by the Oracle system can freely access PeopleSoft applications without having to be re-authenticated. Oracle will set a domain level PS_TOKEN cookie that PeopleSoft can accept as a user credential. This option can be used with existing Oracle and PeopleTools implementations (pre-PeopleTools 8.47). This option is tailored for customers running PeopleTools on BEA WebLogic or IBM WebSphere.

• Implementing Oracle as a Partner Application. This option provides single-signon support for customers running their PeopleSoft applications on the Oracle Application Server. In this option, the Oracle Single Signon server performs authentication for both Oracle and PeopleSoft applications. This option can be used only if you are using Oracle Application Server 10g as your web server, which means it applies only to systems running at least PeopleTools 8.47.



IMPORTANT! The software used to enable this feature (the single signon plug-in and the PSTokenClear servlet) is not shipped on the Enterprise PeopleTools 8.47 CD. The software is posted in ICE for you to download. The ICE incident is 1368140000. Download the ssoplugin.zip file.

Triple DES Encryption with PSCipher

Securing data is of the highest importance to all organizations. For Enterprise PeopleTools 8.47, PeopleTools offers the enhanced Triple DES encryption algorithm.

The PSCipher text encryption utility has been enhanced to provide robust Triple DES text encryption for user IDs and passwords stored in configuration files. And, PSCipher also offers the ability to generate unique encryption keys with a built-in versioning system.

Purging Inactive Users

PeopleSoft is providing a new page named Purge Inactive User Profiles. It enables you to purge inactive users from your system.

To access this page use the following navigation options:

• Select PeopleTools, Security, User Profiles, Purge Inactive User Profiles.

• Select PeopleTools, Security, Password Configuration, Password Controls, and click Schedule under Purge Inactive User Profiles.

Note. Before accessing this page you will need to enter a run control ID.



Purge Inactive User Profiles page

This page enables you to launch the PURGEOLDUSRS Application Engine program. In previous releases, you needed to run this program manually, or manually add it to a recurring job definition.

The PURGEOLDUSRS program deletes user profiles having an inactive status that exceeds the period specified in the Purge Inactive User Profiles section on the Password Controls page.

The Setup Purge Frequency for Inactive User Profiles link takes you to the Password Controls page where you can enter a period (in days) under Purge Inactive User Profiles.

USER_PROFILE Message Changes

With Enterprise PeopleTools 8.47, the delivery of the USER_PROFILE message, PeopleCode, and subscriptions has changed. In previous releases, it was necessary to uncomment a portion of the message PeopleCode (USERMAINT.SavePostChange) for the message to work successfully.

Oracle PDK-Java Portlets

Portlets produced through the Enterprise Pagelet Wizard in Enterprise PeopleTools 8.47 will run in the Oracle Portal. Oracle Portal provides a complete and integrated framework for developing, deploying, and managing enterprise portals. It enables secure information access, self-service publishing, online collaboration, and process automation. Oracle Portal's solid portal platform ensures security, scalability, and high availability, enabling you to conduct business more efficiently with customers, partners, and suppliers.

In order for Oracle Portal to integrate PeopleSoft Provider portlets, the PeopleSoft Provider must first be installed for the OC4J server. This will be done using the PeopleSoft Internet Architecture setup wizard.

The Oracle Portal Administrator registers the PeopleSoft Provider(s) within the Oracle Portal using the existing Register Provider wizard. If desired, a different provider can be registered for each PeopleSoft Portal within a PeopleSoft installation.

Navigation Options

Two new options have been added to the General Settings page to enhance the integration of the PeopleTools and Enterprise Portal navigation.

Menu Text Options

Display menu in nav pagelet

Displays the menu title in the pagelet.

The default for PeopleTools is Unselected.

The default for Enterprise Portal is Selected.

Note. In PeopleTools the menu title is displayed in the header. If both the Display menu text in header and Display menu in nav pagelet are selected, the menu title will display twice.

Header Frame Options (new group box)

Header frame rows Sets the header frame rows. The value added for this field determines the size of the header frame.

The default for PeopleTools is 65.

The default for Enterprise Portal is 100.

Portal Considerations

Receiving Error When Minimizing or Maximizing Portlets

Previously, an error occurred minimizing or maximizing portlets when the Allow Unregistered Content option was disabled for a Web Profile". The workaround, which was described in Enterprise PeopleTools 8.46, is no longer required as this problem has now been fixed.

Setting Focus When Saving a Component

In Enterprise PeopleTools 8.47, you can configure the focus of the browser using the Platform Compatibility Mode option located on the PeopleTools Options page (Select PeopleTools, Utilities, Administration, PeopleTools Options). If selected, focus will be set on the Save button when the user saves a component. If not selected, focus will be set on the first control on the page (that has the ability to assume the focus) when the user saves the component.

Note. The Platform Compatibility Mode option also controls a setting that is mainly used for internal PeopleSoft development. For Enterprise PeopleTools 8.48, the ability to control the focus will have a separate checkbox.

Oracle BPEL Process Manager

For Enterprise PeopleTools 8.47, we are continuing to focus on the interoperability between Enterprise Integration Broker and Oracle BPEL Process Manager, an effort carried forward from PeopleTools 8.46.

Oracle BPEL Process Manager enables enterprises to orchestrate and execute web services and business processes. The ability to quickly design and deploy these services and processes in a standards-based manner delivers critical functionality for developing a Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA).

On Enterprise PeopleTools 8.47, the BEPL version certified is 10.1.2.

Using OAS as a JMS Provider

PeopleTools 8.47 supports using Oracle Application Server (OAS) as a Java Messaging Service (JMS) provider when using the JMS listening connector and the JMS target connector.

Specifying JNDIFactory Class Names

To use OAS as a JMS provider you must set the JNDIFactory class name for the provider in the section of the integrationGateway.properties file labeled JMS Configuration Section.

When you set the JMSProvider property, the provider name that you enter must match the provider in the JNDIFactory class name exactly. You must set this property for both the JMS listening connector and the JMS target connector. This property is case-sensitive.

Reconnecting to JMS Queues and JMS Topics

In Enterprise PeopleTools 8.47, if a JMS queue or JMS topic on which the JMS listening connector is listening becomes unavailable, the JMS listening connector will try to reestablish connection to that queue or topic.

The first reconnection is attempted after one second. The time between reconnection attempts doubles until 60 minutes has elapsed between attempts. At that point, a reconnection attempt occurs every 60 minutes.

Check the Integration Broker error log for information about the exceptions thrown and each time a reconnect is attempted. For the reconnection attempts logged, the warning "attempting to reconnect to queue/topic <name>" displays.

Analytic Calculation Engine (ACE)

This section discusses new and changed features for PeopleSoft Analytic Calculation Engine (ACE).

Analytic Server

Suppress Loading JVM for ACE Models in the Analytic Server

Optimization models and the RenServer use JVM for asynchronous loads. Previously, JVM was loaded into the Analytic Server even when neither of these was being used. Currently, when there is only an Analytic model listed in the problem definition, the plugin is neither created, nor initialized.



Rounding Up Decimal Values

All values with decimals are now consistent across all database platforms. The data shown on the Grid and GetData are the same. For example, values such as 1000.89999 rounds up to 1000.90.

Note. The Model Viewer and log file shows the original data (1000.89999) without the value being rounded up to two decimal points.

Scenario Managed Records

Records based on dynamic views can now be Scenario Managed. For these records the associated SQL should contain a meta string for qualifying the analytic instance.

PeopleSoft Tree Manager

Previously, page numbers were not updating correctly when inserting a new tree object on a tree. For example, prior to insertion the page number would be 23 of 23. After the insertion it would change to 24 of 23. The first number shows the number of entries on a current page, the second number shows the number of objects existing in a current tree and being saved in a database.

To correct the problem, instead of displaying a database counter for tree objects we now display the current in memory counter.

PS/nVision

This section covers changes and updates to PS/nVision.

Running nVision Reports on the Web

DrillToPIA

In prior PeopleTools releases, web drilldown from an Excel report (using the DrillToPIA add-in) did not work if the report sheetname had spaces in it. This has been fixed in 8.47. However, do not use special characters such as ‘ , " , < , > , [ , ] , / , \ , * , ?.

SaveTempFile

The SaveTempFile parameter allows you to save or delete the temporary reports that are created when running nVision to email, print, or web output. When SaveTempFile parameter is set to true (1), temporary report(s) will not be deleted. If run to email or print output, the report(s) will be saved to the folder specified in the “Directory name template” field of the report request. If that field is left blank, the report will be saved to the nVision instance directory. If run to web output, the report will always be saved in the nVision instance directory.

Report Descriptions Now Translatable

The table that stores nVision report definitions (PS_NVS_REPORT) now has a related language table, so the descriptions of the reports are translatable.



Scope-Based Distribution

The example page and records provided for utilizing nVision’s Scope-based distribution has been expanded to help provide a more flexible and practical solution.

Drilling Down over the Web

Drilling down on nVision reports over the web has been made more robust. For example, issues with Excel 2003, spaces in sheetname, tabular/matrix sheets, have been addressed.

Crystal Reports for PeopleSoft

Applying Crystal Enterprise 10 Hot Fixes

If a Business Objects hot fix for Crystal Enterprise 10 contains changes to the webcompadapter.war file, the web.xml file within webcompadapter.war may need to be modified to correct configuration details for the variables %WCSNAME% and %WEBCONTENTDIR%. Crystal Enterprise for PeopleSoft Enterprise Integration must then be reinstalled to recreate the pswebcompadapter.war file.

Process Scheduler Configuration

A new parameter (SaveTempFile) has been added to the Process Scheduler Configuration File in the PS/nVision Section.

Parameter Description

SaveTempFile Indicate whether you want PS/nVision to save or delete the temporary reports created when running them to Email, Printer, or Web output. 0 = Temporary reports will be deleted. (Default).

1 = Temporary reports will be saved. Note. Reports that are run to Email or Printer will be saved to the folder specified in the Directory Name Template field of the report request. Reports that are run to Web will be saved to the PS/nVision instance directory.

PeopleCode

This section describes the changes to PeopleCode.

Analytic Model Class

For the Analytic Model class CalculateCube method, the second parameter, Sync is now optional. It is only being included for compatibility with previous releases. Any value specified for this parameter is ignored. The cube is always calculated in synchronous mode.

Analytic Grid Class

For the Analytic Grid class, all of the parameters for the SetLayout method now accept a null value ("").

Query Classes

For the Query classes, all date, time, and datetime fields that are part of a query are now required fields when running a query.

SOAPDoc Class

For the SOAPDoc class, you no longer need to specify the optional parameter with the ValidateSOAPDoc method to ignore the namespace prefix during SOAP validation.

GetGrid Built-in Function

The GetGrid built-in function no longer accepts the optional occursnumber parameter.

SendMail Built-in Function

The SendMail built-in function has been changed so that you can use double-byte characters for the display names for an email address.

Using the Clean Built-in Function with Double-Byte Characters

The Clean built-in function may delete some double-byte characters. This can be fixed by applying a patch supplied by Microsoft.

To apply the patch for issue MS 890695:

1. Download and install Windows Application Compatibility Toolkit 3.0.

2. Open Compatibility Administrator Tools 3.0.



3. Under Custom Databases, rename the new database to Test.

4. Click the Fix icon to create a new application fix.

5. Specify the application to be fixed, then click Next.

PeopleSoft Application Engine

The maximum allowable number of state records that may be used in an Application Engine program has been increased from 100 to 200.

Translating Analytic Model ID Definitions

The PeopleSoft Pure Internet Architecture features a new Translate Analytic Model page. The page enables you to translate short and long descriptions for Analytic Calculation Engine (ACE) analytic model ID definitions into a specific target language.

To translate analytic model ID definitions:

1. Select PeopleTools, Translations, Translate System Definitions, Translate Analytic Model.

2. In the Model ID field, select the analytic model ID to translate.

Leave the Model ID field blank if you want to select all analytic model ID definitions in the system.

If you want to work through the records alphabetically, enter the first characters of the record name in the Model ID field. If you want to translate a specific record, enter the record name in the Model ID field or use the Search button to prompt for a specific record.

3. In the Target Language field, select the language into which to translate the record descriptions.

4. Click the Get Model ID button In the Record field, select a set of record definitions.



A set of model ID definitions appears in the Analytic Model List based on the value you entered into the Model ID field.

5. Translate the short and long descriptions into the target language.

The base-language descriptions for each model ID appear on the left; enter the translations in the Target Description fields on the right.

6. Save the page.

SendMail Function Supports Non-ASCII Display Names

Beginning with this release, the SendMail function supports non-ASCII display names.

When using iso-2022-jp character encoding, some extension characters may not display correctly. Examples of characters that may not display correctly include

and others.

Running COBOL in a z/OS Unicode Environment

PeopleTools 8.47 supports running COBOL in a z/OS Unicode environment.

As delivered by PeopleSoft, all COBOL programs are written to run on non-Unicode databases. To run the PeopleSoft-delivered COBOL programs in the z/OS environment against a Unicode database, you must use the PeopleTools COBOL Conversion Utility for z/OS.

A document, “Running COBOL in a z/OS Unicode Environment,” is posted on PeopleSoft Customer Connection. The document provides an overview of running COBOL in a z/OS Unicode environment and discusses how to:

• Run the PeopleTools COBOL Conversion Utility for z/OS.

• Identify converted COBOL programs.

• Understand converted data.

• View error logs.

DB2 z/OS Unicode

With DB2 z/OS Unicode databases running on Enterprise PeopleTools 8.47, the default data type for a Long Character field definition is VARGRAPHIC, as opposed to Large Objects (LOBs) in Enterprise PeopleTools 8.45 or 8.46.

Note. PeopleSoft no longer supports Unicode for z/OS on Enterprise PeopleTools 8.45 or 8.46. There is no upgrade path for Unicode on z/OS from Enterprise PeopleTools 8.45 or 8.46 to Enterprise PeopleTools 8.47 and beyond.

Converting PeopleSoft Systems to Unicode Databases

PeopleSoft 8 can manage data in many languages in a single database by using Unicode.



By creating a PeopleSoft database using Unicode, you can maintain application data, reports, user interface components, and other linguistic elements of your PeopleSoft system in as many languages as you want, all in a single database.

Creating a Unicode database will be of benefit to your organization if you plan on maintaining multiple languages in your PeopleSoft system, or if one or more of the languages you are using are non-Western European languages.

A document, “Converting PeopleSoft Systems to Unicode Databases,” is posted on PeopleSoft Customer Connection. The document contains information about upgrading PeopleSoft 8.x systems to Unicode and discusses:

• Planning Unicode conversions.

• Converting to Unicode on Oracle databases.

• Converting to Unicode on Microsoft SQL Server and DB2/UDB databases.

New Currency Codes

For PeopleTools 8.47 the following currency codes have been added. The new codes replace the code indicated.

Life Cycle Management This section covers these changes and updates to the Life Cycle Management area.

• Change Assistant.

• Current Demo Options.

Change Assistant

Change Assistant can now pass the optional command line parameter, -CMXML, to generate browser reports.

This command enables you to enable the option of generating browser reports written to your report output directory. This is equivalent to setting the Generate Browser Reports options on the Report Options tab on the Upgrade Options dialog box in Application Designer

Enter 1 to enable this option, and enter 0 to disable this option. For example,

-CMXML 1

The default is 0.



Current Demo Options

The Current Demo has been available as an option for the "Compare And Report" Step type and now is available for the following:

• Data Mover-User step type in order to run Rename scripts against the Current Demo, before running the compare.

• Data Mover - Bootstrap step type

• Manual/Stop step type for the Current Demo before compare is run. Without this, a forced manual stop step would have to be added to the upgrade template to run the Data Mover script manually. This manual stop step could not correctly point to the Current Demo database.

PeopleBook Enhancements With Enterprise PeopleTools 8.47 there is not a new version of PeopleBooks. Enterprise PeopleTools 8.46 PeopleBooks are shipped with Enterprise PeopleTools 8.47. However, you can download the following PeopleBook Enhancements to the Enterprise PeopleTools 8.46 PeopleBooks from Customer Connection. These documents cover information that applies to Enterprise PeopleTools 8.47 that is not in the Enterprise PeopleTools 8.46 PeopleBooks.

You can access PeopleBook Enhancements on Customer Connection by selecting Support, Documentation, Documentation Updates and then in the More Information area on the right click Documentation Updated by Release and select 8.47.
