PUENTE Project

PUENTE’s continued success in motivatingand supporting low-income, first-generationstudents to earn degrees from four-year col-leges and universities has been researchedby the Harvard Graduate School of Educa-tion, the University of California and NewMexico State University, to name a few.

The mission of the Puente Project is toincrease the number of educationally under-served students who:

• Transfer/enroll in four-year colleges anduniversities,

• Earn college degrees, and• Return to their communities as leaders and

mentors.

A priority of the STEM grant is to expand andenhance educational opportunities for andimprove the academic attainment of under-served student populations in the STEMfields. By implementing this retention strategy for our undergraduate students wewould like your participation in sharing your

professional and academic experiences inorder to encourage a student to learn andimprove within their college career.

Mentors can help by:

• Sharing your professional and academicexperiences

• Introducing the role of professional networking

• Encouraging students to learn and improve

• Motivating students to transfer to a four-year university

• Serving as a role model by committing to 9hours per semester for 1 school year
