Brief Summary:
• This exciting lesson is on the different types of bees that exist in a hive. These bees include the worker bee, the drone bee and the queen bee. Each bee has very specific and important job inside and outside the hive. To begin with, the teacher will read the book “Busy Buzzy Bees” to the class as a whole. Next the students will be placed in three separate centers which will rotate every twenty minutes. Center 1 will be re-reading the book on bees and creating a chart showing the different jobs of the different types of bees. Center 2 will be developing a story about there favorite types of bee. The story will be based on “a day in the life of a bee.” Center 3 will be at the classroom computers where they will use http://jaycut.com/users/hjcarr-0 to develop a video on what they have learned about bees. This video will include the different types of bees and there jobs. There will be a before and after lesson activity that the students will complete. The students will be give a multiple-choice questionnaire for the before activity to gain where the students are with their knowledge of bees. Also, the teacher will give a tutorial of the technology they will be using and show them step by step what will take place. For the after activity, the students will go to the classroom blog at http://hjcarr.edublogs.org/ Next they will answer questions on the blog to show that they have learned.
Stage One: Identify Desired Results
• Established Goals:• To learn the different types of bees in a hive • To learn the different jobs of bees in a hive • What understandings are desired?• The students will understand that:• Every hive has a family of bees and there are different types of
bees in hive. These bees include drone bees, worker bees, and the queen bee. Also, the jobs of the different bees vary. The queen bee is the head bee and she lays the eggs. The drone bees are the male bee and they are used to mate with the queen bee. Lastly, the Worker bee takes care of all the chores and collects the pollen and honey.

share.• -The teacher will grade the videos with a rubric to show if the students developed an
understanding of bees.

Stage 3- Plan Learning Experiences and Instruction
Center 1- Bee Jobs Chart
• Overview: The student will be introduced to bees by a story the teacher reads to them entitled “Busy Buzzy Bees.” Next the teacher will divide the student into three separate centers. With this center, the student will have the opportunity to take another view of the story and then use a chart to tell the different jobs that the different bees have.
• Objectives:• 1. Develop abilities necessary to conduct scientific investigations.

Center 2: Bee Story • Overview: The student will be introduced to bees by a story the teacher reads to them entitled
“Busy Buzzy Bees.” Next the teacher will divide the student into three separate centers. With this center, the student will have the opportunity to develop a story on a type of bee of their choice. They must mention which type of bee it is and what jobs they have around the hive. They will then draw a picture representing the story. The teacher will take up the stories and grade them with a rubric

Center 3: Bee Video• Overview: The student will be introduced to bees by a story the teacher reads to them entitled
“Busy Buzzy Bees.” Next the teacher will divide the student into three separate centers. With this center, the student will have the opportunity to develop a video, which describes the different types of bees in a hive and their individual jobs. The student will have the opportunity to develop and share their videos with others if they choose. The teacher will use a rubric to grade the video to see if they developed a good understanding of bees.
