• 80% clinical and 20% didactic curriculum has been

CODA approved since inception in 1988.

• Hundreds of affiliated clinical training sites are approved by

CODA across the Continental US, Hawaii, Alaska and the

Caribbean including community health centers, private or

group practices, Indian Health Services sites and dental

school campuses.

• Residents will provide comprehensive oral health care to many

vulnerable populations contributing to a national public health

initiative under the mentorship of a world-class faculty.

• Residents receive clinical experience in most dentistry

disciplines: preventive, restorative, endodontics, periodontics,

removable prosthodontics, fixed prosthodontics, hard and

soft tissue surgery, sedation techniques, pain and trauma

accredited hospital-based program is based in

New York and provides training in all phases of

dentistry to produce a ‘super generalist’.

Residents are trained by a world-class faculty of

general dentists and specialists who work one-on-

one with residents in all phases of dentistry.

patients from start to completion and have the opportunity

to perform a variety of standard and advanced clinical

procedures in all areas of dentistry.

Dental Anesthesiology (ANESTH)



SUPErior PrEPArAtionThis 36-month, ADA-CODA approved hospital-

based program offers hands-on training in the

anesthetic management of patients in the operating

room, outpatient clinic and dental office setting.

Graduates of the program are proficient in the

anesthetic management—in both hospital and

non-hospital settings—of a wide range of dental

patients including: children, special needs patients,

phobic adults, the medically compromised,

patients with extensive treatment plans, and

emergency and trauma patients.

DEntAL AnEStHESioLoGy At-A-GLAnCE

• Comprehensive didactic curriculum to complement

clinical experiences.

• Residents train at NYU Langone Hospitals–Brooklyn

which is a recognized Level-1 Trauma Center. In

this environment, residents are exposed to a large

and varied caseload comprised of an ethnically and

socioeconomically diverse population.

• Off service medical rotations – one month in Pediatric

Medicine, and a total of three months in Internal Medicine

(one month in each of PGY-1, PGY-2 and PGY-3 years).

• Mobile office-based anesthesia rotation – two months

in year 2 and four months in year 3.

• Surgery center rotation dedicated exclusively to

anesthetic management of the dental patient (with a

focus on syndromic/special needs patients) –

two months in year 2.

• Work closely with medical teams.

Dental Public Health residency (DPH)



SUPErior PrEPArAtionThis 12-month, ADA-CODA accredited program

reflects the art and science of improving the oral

health of communities. Graduates will be well-

prepared to pass the American Board of Dental

Public Health exam as well as launch a career in

the increasingly important and impactful field of

dental public health.

The DPH specialty credential and the practical

experience gained will aid in securing employment

in more complex and highly compensated

management and leadership positions, in both

the public and private sectors.

DPH At-A-GLAnCE

• Most DPH residents train at a NYU Langone-affiliated,

CODA-approved community health center. Training

sites are located in geographically and ethnically diverse

locations throughout the U.S. and offer opportunities to

promote oral health solutions to the entire community.

• Residents will spend the majority of their time developing

and implementing one or more projects that are consistent

with the interests of the resident and that also provide a

tangible benefit to the host health center.

• The DPH residency teaches a wide range of skills such as

how to develop and manage clinical dental programs, how

to develop community-oriented prevention programs, and

how to conduct health services and epidemiologic research.



ABoUt tHE EntirE CoMMUnity“ In DPH, we consider the entire community

as our “patient” with special attention to vulnerable populations and those who can’t afford regular dental care. We “examine” our patient (the community) by doing oral health surveys and community needs assessments; we design “treatment plans” by designing dental programs; and we “treat” the community by operating dental programs for disadvantaged populations. The dental clinics we operate in the FHC network are an excellent example of a dental public health approach to meeting the community’s dental needs.”

Endodontics (ENDO)



SUPErior PrEPArAtionThis 25-month, ADA-CODA accredited program

is a hybrid blend of both hospital- and dental

school-based training. The program emphasizes

orthograde and surgical clinical endodontics

to build diagnostic experience, teach implant

dentistry and re-treatment assessment, and to

develop skills for treating patients under sedation

or in the operating room.

EnDo At-A-GLAnCE

• Comprehensive didactic curriculum to complement

clinical experiences.

• Two training locations: Family Health Centers at

NYU Langone Hospitals–Brooklyn, NY or University of

Puerto Rico School of Dental Medicine.

• Residents can expect to conduct a variety of procedures,

working with specialists in orthodontics, pediatric dentistry,

prosthodontics, oral surgery, oral pathology, endodontics,

orofacial pain and periodontics on a diverse patient

population, including those with special needs.

• The program encourages the use of state-of-the-art

technologies, including surgical operating microscopes,

digital radiography, cone beam computed tomography

and ultrasonics.

• Successful completion of the program grants a certificate

in endodontics and meets the eligibility requirements for

the American Board of Endodontics examination.

orthodontics & Dentofacial orthopedics (O & DO)



SUPErior PrEPArAtionThis is a 24-month, ADA-CODA accredited hospital based program. Upon successful completion of requirements, residents are awarded a Certificate in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics and are eligible to take the American Board of Orthodontics specialty board exam.

Upon graduation, residents will be able to treat a full spectrum of orthodontic conditions in various adolescent and adult populations. Residents will gain proficiency in diagnosis, treatment planning and managing orthopedic conditions using interceptive strategies as well as a variety of fixed and removable applicances. The program emphasizes risk manage-ment and clinical ethics related to patient care.

demographically diverse population (80%) and didactic

learning (20%).

• Residents work closely with faculty in a clinically intense

Advanced Education in Pediatric Dentistry (PEDS)



SUPErior PrEPArAtionThis is a 24-month, ADA-CODA accredited hospital

and health center based program. The curriculum

emphasizes pediatric medicine and dentistry, the

behavioral and pharmacological management of

children, oral biology for the pediatric dentist, and

general anesthesia.

Graduates are well-prepared in all areas of pediatric

dentistry and will become contributing members

of the health care team in a hospital environment,

community healthcare facility or private practice.

PEDS At-A-GLAnCE• This innovative program is a hybrid blend of a strong

distance-learning didactic curriculum (25%) with extensive clinical experiences (75%).

• Upon graduation, the resident is awarded a Certificate in Pediatric Dentistry, meeting the advanced education eligibility requirements of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry.

• The program places a large emphasis on pediatric sedation, pediatric general anesthesia, and pediatric medicine.

• Residents become exceptionally well-trained in the diagnosis and treatment of emergencies and trauma.

• Training with specialists in all disciplines of dentistry, including but not limited to orthodontics, periodontics, endodontics, dental public health and the treatment of patients with special healthcare needs.
