Nebulizer

Definition

Nebulizer is a ventilator that can be used as a therapy to thin the sputum with fumigation (steam

therapy) / tool for breaking drug into sections such as rain / steam for inhaled. A nebulizer

changes liquid medicine into fine droplets (in aerosol or mist form) that are inhaled through a

mouthpiece or mask.

Function

- Treating inflammation of the upper respiratory tract

- Removes congested mucous membranes of the upper respiratory tract so that the mucus

becomes watery and easier exit

- Maintain moist mucous membrane in a state

- Respiratory bronchioles

- Reduces the abscess of lender membrane

- Prevents the drying membrane lender

- Relax the muscles and cure cough

- Eliminate itching of the esophagus

Indications

- Patients with shortness of breath and cough

- Bronchodilating pneumonia

- PPOK (bronchitis, emphysema)

- Bronchial asthma

- Rhinitis and sinusitis

- Post tracheostomi

- A cold with runny nose and shortness of

- Mucous membrane mongering

- Irritation of the esophagus, inflammation of the lining of the upper respiratory tract lenders

Kontraindications

- In people with tracheotomies

- The fracture area of the nose.

The structure of Nebulizer

Nebulizer Medications

1. Pulmicort: anti-inflammatory combination with drugs that relax the airways

1. NaCl: dilute sputum

2. Bisolvon Liquid: dilute sputum

3. Atroven: loosen airway

4. Berotex: loosen airway

5. Inflamid: for anti-inflammatory

6. Combiven: combinations to loosen airway

7. Meptin: loosening airways.

Various Kinds of Nebulizer

o Mesh (Mini) Nebulizer

Page 3: Paper Nebulizer English

is a handheld device that ejects medication or moisturizing agents, such as bronchodilators or

Mukolitik agans into microscopic particles and send them into the lungs when patients inhale.

Characteristics :

- Using a small hole

- Can the Battery

- Small size

- Efficient

o Aerosol jet nebulizer

using a gas under pressure

Bernoulli's Principle:

compressed air -> narrow pipe -> high pressure -> withdraw the drug from the reservoir fluid

through a tube -> broken particle -> small particles in the gas flow.

Characteristics:

o capable of forming all of the liquid aerosols

o easy to carry and replaced

o noise

o Ultrasonic Nebulizer

using high-frequency vibrations to break up into droplets of water or medicine or fine

particles.

Principle:

ultrasonic signal -> high frequency (1-3MHz) -> set up a energy aerosols -> pounded on the

baffle -> smaller particles

Characteristics:

- Not able to form aerosols of all liquids.

- No noisy due to lower engine sound

- Aerosol particles smaller

- Size large

Preparation on Giving Nebulizer

Equipment and medicine:

1. Oxygen set

2. Nebulizer set

3. Normal saline fluids and medications that will be used

4. 5 or 10 cc syringe.

5. Mouth piece if necessary

6. Crooked

7. Tissue

Procedure of Using Nebulizer

1. Prepare the equipments 2. Be sure to securely connect the

hose to an air compressor.

3. Carefully fill the medicine cup

with your prescription.

4. Attach the hose and mouthpiece/

mask to the medicine cup.

5. Place the mouthpiece into your 6. After each use, rinse your

mouth and secure your lips

around it. Breathe in and out

slowly through your mouth,

without removing your mouth

from the mouthpiece.

mouthpiece and medicine cup with

warm water and let air dry. You

should also rinse your mouth to

remove any left-over residue.

Procedure on Giving Nebulizer

1. Monitor vital signs before and after treatment, especially in clients who use

bronchodilators.

2. Explain the procedure to the client.

3. Adjust the position of the client as comfortable as possible most often in a position semi

fowler, keep the privacy.

4. Officers hand washing.

5. Filled nebulizer medication (according to treatment program) and normal saline fluid ± 4-

6cc.

6. Turn on the nebulizer and connect the nebulizer and the hose to the oxygen flow meter

and set the flow at 4-5 liters / minute, or the air compressor.

7. Instruct the client to dispose of breath.

8. Ask the client to take a breath in through the mouth piece, hold the breath for a moment

and then throw the breath through the nose.

9. Observation on the development of lung / chest client.

10. Ask the client to breathe slowly and in after all the drug evaporated.

Page 6: Paper Nebulizer English

11. Completed action, encourage the client to cough after a deep breath in recent times

(cough technique effectively.)

12. Client trimmed.

13. Trimming tool.

14. Officers hand washing.

15. Record the client's response and actions taken.

Nebulizer Care

Cleaning and disinfecting your equipment is simple, yet very important. Cleaning should be done

in a dust- and smoke-free area away from open windows. Here is how to clean your equipment:

1. After each treatment, rinse the nebulizer cup with warm water, shake off excess water

and let it air dry.

2. At the end of each day, the nebulizer cup, mask, or mouthpiece should be washed in

warm, soapy water using a mild detergent, rinsed thoroughly, and allowed to air dry.

Note: There is no need to clean the tubing that connects the nebulizer to the air

compressor.

3. Every third day, after washing your equipment, disinfect the equipment using a

vinegar/water solution or the disinfectant solution your supplier suggests.

4. To use the vinegar solution, mix 1/2 cup white vinegar with 1-1/2 cups of water. Soak the

equipment for 30 minutes and rinse well under a steady stream of water. Shake off the

excess water and allow to air dry on a paper towel. Always allow the equipment to

completely dry before storing in a plastic, zipper storage bag.

Compressor Care

1. Cover the compressor with a clean cloth when not in use. Keep it clean by wiping it with

a clean, damp cloth as needed.

2. Do not put the air compressor on the floor either for treatments or for storage.

3. Check the air compressor's filter as directed. Replace or clean according to the directions

from your equipment supplier.

Page 7: Paper Nebulizer English

4. Always have an extra nebulizer cup and mask or mouthpiece in case you need it.

5. Store your medicines in a cool, dry place.

6. Check them often. If they have changed color or formed crystals, throw them away and

replace them with new ones.

Things to Remember

1. Treat your clients carefully.

2. When the initial client actions need to be accompanied to look calm.

Wrong Usage

1. This type of drug and dosage are not appropriate

2. Masks are too big

3. Not connected with the electrical

4. Duration of administration was not long enough
