3 Tips for Social Media Posts

1. Don’t always state the obvious.

© 2016 National University of Singapore. All Rights Reserved

“Check out this ….!” “Learn about our…” “Read about our….” “We are organizing an event….”

Unless the value is very high/clear.

Page 22: NUS-ISS Learning Day 2016 - Digital Storytelling

2. Quote people, don’t just describe products / servicesA single powerful testimonial is more compelling than any amount of hard sell/ description.

2. Quote people, don’t just describe products / services

Posting a video?

Quote something from the video.

Don’t just ask your audience to “watch this video about…..”.

3. Value: consider what is relevant to your readers, not just to yourself.

Don’t:“We are proud to have attained the UCASS ISO27000 Award!”

“Our CTRPA staff show you how they use our RET to improve the PITMP process.”

Don’t assume they know what you’re talking about:

Do“We are happy to receive this award only because you told us you are happy with our quality”.

“Using this tried and tested method, Peter is able to ascertain that your device performs with accuracy and reliability.

Actually, I hadn’t planned on joining the IT industry initially. ... [At a] recruitment talk by

IBM. I was intrigued that the recruiter said he was looking for “problem solvers” and that computers would change the world.

Since I had already been solving problems using my research, what he said appealed

to me and I thought, "How about me?"
