FOREWORD
National Power Training Institute (NPTI) a national apex body set up by theMinistry of Power Government of India for Human Resources Development ofIndian Power Sector, cherishes a vision of value orientation and value additionto national and trans-national power and energy sectors. NPTI has been conductingtraining programs in the areas of Generation,Transmission and Distribution ofElectricity at NPTI Headquarter and Institutes located at Neyveli (Tamil Nadu),Durgapur (West Bengal), Badarpur (New Delhi), Nagpur (Maharashtra), Guwahati(North Eastern Region) in the past decades. The Hot Line Training Centre atBangalore, a specialized Institute which conducts training on Live Line MaintenanceTechniques on transmission lines upto 400 KV. Power System Training Instituteat Bangalore has alone been meeting the training demands of the load dispatch
centres. The Power System Training Institute along with NPTI WR, Nagpur Institute conductprograms in the areas of transmission and distribution with excellent placement opportunities. The Load Despatch Training Simulator at Bangalore is being upgraded along with various laboratoriesto provide training on latest developments in the sector. A centre for excellence in GIS andRemote Sensing has been established at NPTI complex, Faridabad which conducts 52 weeks PostGraduate Diploma in GIS & Remote Sensing. The construction work of Hydro Training Centre atNangal is also progressing fast and this Institute could become functional during the year 2008-09. A long term training program on “Hydro Power Technology” has been launched at NPTI (NR,Badarpur), New Delhi. Simulator training for Reflex Development of operators is being carriedout in NPTI through state of the art Simulators, 210 MW LMW at Badarpur, 210 MW KWU atNagpur and 500 MW KWU at Faridabad. These are real time full scope PC based thermal powerplant training Simulators for carrying out Off-Job Hands on Training. A Combined Cycle GasTurbine Simulator 430 MW (2 x 143 MW Gas Turbine and 1 x 144 MW Steam Turbine is alreadyoffering training program for Power Professionals at Faridabad.
In the field of education NPTI has made rapid strides. B.E./B.Tech. (Power Engineering) Graduatespassing out from Badarpur, Nagpur and Durgapur continue to be highly sought after by thePower Supply Industry. PGDC in Thermal Power Plant Engineering programs conducted at Nagpur,Neyveli, Durgapur and Badarpur have established their reputation by helping to improve theplant load factors of Thermal Power Plants and have 100% placement record.
MBA (Power Management Program) for Graduate Engineers to manage the reforming power sectorhas also been successfully established with100 % Campus placement service with decent salarysince its inception in 2002. To ensure reliable, safe and quality power for all, we at NPTI havegeared up to start distribution franchise programs and have initiated steps which will ensure welltrained technicians and linemen in the near future. NPTI was also involved in distribution Reforms& upgrade and Modernisation (DRUM) program at the Ministry of Power. NPTI continues itsmarch to share knowledge with other friendly countries by trans-national training ventures inIndia and abroad.
To make our trainees more comfortable, the training infrastructure is also being upgraded. Allout efforts are being made to ensure that the courses offered by NPTI stand out and meet thepower sector needs. We have been modifying our training calendar to incorporate the programswhich are in great demand.
Any suggestions for improvement are welcome.
