Quien os escribe lo hace por primera vez esteaño, un año muy importante para nosotros.Un año lleno de cambios. Ante todo quisiera agradecer a todos los quedurante casi 5 años (celebraremos nuestros 5años el primer fin de semana de junio en Ibizacon un gala) han confiado en nosotros: todoslos que han colaborado, nos han respaldado ytambién criticado, porque esto nos haconvertido en una revista cada vez mejor,número tras número. En seguida notaréis elcambio. Night&Day es una revista joven queestá hecha por jóvenes y se basa en unosvalores auténticos: para imprimirla no se hatalado ningún árbol, sino que se han recicladolos residuos de la construcción, sin consumirni contaminar el agua. Estamos muyorgullosos de este cambio que es paranosotros, para vosotros, y quizás un díatambién, para nuestros hijos. Nuestra revistaes la primera en el mundo que piensa en ello yhemos decidido decíroslo a todos. Por esopresentaremos nuestra revista en Miamidurante la Ultra Music Festival y tambiénestaremos presentes con un tour en lascapitales europeas más importantes paraacabar en casa, es decir, en Ibiza yFormentera. Quisiera expresar una últimaopinión sobre nuestras preciosas islas, peroque se debe aplicar en cualquier lugar.Tenemos que respetar. Los turistas o losemigrantes tienen que respetar la cultura, lalengua y las tradiciones del país a donde van. Respeto significa integrarse y, por lo tanto,también hablar la lengua de los nativos comoprimer signo de respeto. De la misma formaquiero decir a los autóctonos que lo bonito deestas dos perlas de las Baleares es el hecho deque se acepta y respeta a todo el mundo. Creoque no es justo pensar que por ser originariode un lugar tienes más derechos que losdemás. Miami nos puede servir como ejemplode respeto y tolerancia. Gracias de nuevo, ¡arriba el 2011! Tell us what attracts you so much about the white island: I think there is really no place like Ibiza in the world. In my life I’ve been to many resorts and tourist areas where people try to copy the Ibiza spirit. I think it is a very special place to be in the world.Do you think Ibiza has changed for the better or worse since the first time you came here?: I think it has changed for the better: for example, the road system is better and safer than many years ago and times for people to go clubbing is better because it gives people an opportunity to rest. What can you tell us about your business relationship with Lynn and how has she helped shape your career?: She is a very special person. The reason why she does what she does is because she loves music. We both love what we do. She has been very important for me and I’ve been very important for her.

Tell us about Carl Cox and Friends at Ultra Music Festival: This year Ultra Music Festival has sold out for the three days, which means 55,000 people per day. That gives you an idea of how important is for me to be involved in Ultra. This year is the 10th anniversary of Carl Cox @Space Ibiza. How do you feel about it?:I cannot believe it’s 10 years. It’s gone so fast. Space and Ibiza are my two most favourite things in the world. When I play it is like playing at home – the crowds and the parties are always amazing.Tell us something about this upcoming 2011 season: Every year it gets better and better, and this one will top them all. Expect world class DJs, cutting edge sound and lighting and one of the best atmospheres on the island, along with a few extra special surprises… I just can’t wait to get back on the decks for another mammoth season. Interview with Lynn Cosgrave of Safehouse, the manager of Carl CoxName: Lynn CosgraveWhere are you from?: Wales.You and your company Safehouse are well known in the industry, how did your career in the dance music industry begin?:I started as a DJ at college and it all develo-ped from there. What do you and your company Safehouse do?: Safehouse is primarily an artist manage-ment company. However, we have also developed a side that produced events around the world, including Carl Cox and Friends events and two nights in Ibiza. Safehouse produces Carl Cox at Space which is now one of the biggest parties in Ibiza, what have you done to ensure that it stays so strong for so many years?: Carl and I have always put the customer first. From the start we kept the door price as low as possible. Then we bought in the best DJs across the world to come and play with us. The first year many of these DJs were unknown, now 10 years later quite a few of them are household names. Safehouse also produces a new event concept Come Together, can you tell us more about this event?: Come Together was born from Pepe, he asked me to do another night at Space, so we took a look at what was going on and decided to move to a more “live” event. Space had never done anything live so it was a total thrill to do something different. How would you define your job?:Hard work but amazing - I am very lucky to have my job.What is your favorite spot in Ibiza:Can Caspero.An obsession: Music.Plans for the summer 2011:Lots and lots of fun with great music.

Safehouse produce a Carl Cox en Space que ahora es una de mayores fiestas en Ibiza, ¿qué has hecho para que siguiese tan fuerte durante tantos años?: Carl y yo siempre hemos puesto al cliente en primer lugar. Name: Marco CarolaWhere are you from?: Naples, Italy.Can you tell us about the idea behind thenew album and why you chose to call it‘Play It Loud!’?: In a funny way it’s kind oflike an instruction for how to use thealbum. My music is basically groovy, and areally important thing in my tracks is thebassline - it won’t really make senseotherwise. That’s why I named it this way,it’s the way I think you should listen to it. Would you say that your approach hasbeen very different to how you’veapproached other albums?: Yes, honestlyit’s the first time I wanted to do a ‘dance’album with my music - I didn’t want to gofar from what I’m already doing. I didn’twant to do what many people do: whenthey make an album they say ‘let’s dosomething different’. But that was not myidea: I’m good at what I’m doing. But thedifference is to put what I’m doing in adifferent format. That’s why I did this mixedversion - that’s the difference between thisalbum and the one before. Have your studio techniques andproduction methods changed much sinceyou started working on this album?: Toomuch! I’m really sorry to disappoint all theanalogue producers and DJs, that useanalogue stuff and basic, older concepts of

making music. I’m sorry to disappoint them because I changed to digital.The clubs themselves and the atmosphere you experience on the good nightsbecome a big influence on what you do?: It’s not just the club, it’s about when you’rehome and listening to music, listening to promos, going out and seeing anotherDJ - be involved in it.Your DJ’ing schedule has obviously been extremely busy for many years, but fromwhat you say you still get excited by the nights and enjoy going to them: Yeah, ifit’s not a really horrible flight afterwards! I honestly enjoy most of them. So when you’re touring, and when you begin your world tour in February, are thereany places that you particularly look forward to, places that you can’t wait to getback to?: Probably the only place where I think about much in advance, that I’mexcited to do, is Amnesia in Ibiza.

Nombre: Marco Carola¿De dónde eres?: De Nápoles, Italia.¿Nos puedes hablar de la idea que hay detrás detu nuevo álbum y por qué le has llamado ‘Play ItLoud!’?: De una forma divertida es como unainstrucción de cómo utilizar el disco. Mi músicaes básicamente groovy y un elemento muyimportante en mis temas son los bajos, de otraforma no tendría sentido. Es por eso que lo llaméasí, para mí es la manera en la que se deberíaescuchar. ¿Dirías que has utilizado un enfoque muy distintoal de los demás álbumes?: Sí, realmente porprimera vez quise un álbum ‘dance’, no queríaalejarme de lo que ya estaba haciendo. No queríahacer como mucha gente que cuando realiza undisco dice “hacemos algo diferente”. Sinembargo, esa no fue mi idea: soy bueno en lo quehago, la diferencia está en hacerlo con unformato distinto. Es por eso que hice una versiónmezclada. En eso se diferencia del álbumanterior. ¿Tus técnicas en estudio y tus métodos deproducción han cambiado mucho desde queempezaste a trabajar en este álbum?:¡Demasiado! Siento mucho decepcionar a losproductores y DJs que trabajan en analógico,que usan material analógico y unos conceptosbásicos y más antiguos de hacer música. Sientodecepcionarlos porque me cambié al digital.¿Los locales y el ambiente que sientes en lasbuenas fiestas tienen mucha influencia en lo quehaces?: No depende solo del club, también decuando estás en casa y escuchas música,anuncios, cuando sales y ves a otros DJs, escuestión de vivirlo.Durante muchos años has estado muy ocupadopinchando aunque, por lo que cuentas, todavíate emocionas en las fiestas y disfrutas yendo: Sí,¡siempre que no tenga un vuelo horribledespués! Sinceramente, disfruto casi siempre. Cuando estás de gira, y en febrero cuandoempieces tu gira mundial, ¿hay algún sitio enespecial al que no puedes esperar para volver?:Seguramente el único sitio en el que piensomucho de antemano, que me emociona mucho,es Amnesia en Ibiza.

Everglades

EVERGLADES NATIONAL PARKIf you go to Miami, you can’t miss one of the most spectacular parks in the

world, Everglades National Park. Everglades is in the southern portion of the

U.S. state of Florida, 2 hours away from Miami.

This extremely rich national park is a subtropical mosaic of surprising diversity

and a refuge for 13 threatened or endangered animal species.

You can admire different ecosystems and manatees, dolphins, alligators, birds

and turtles!

Within Everglades National Park, 19,840 acres (80.3 km2) of pine forests are

protected, but outside the park, 1,780 acres (7.2 km2) of pine communities

remained as of 1990, averaging 12.1 acres (49,000 m2) in area.

Everglades National Park is open year round. Highest visitation is from

December through April, and the lowest visitation is May through November.

Walking and canoe trails, boat tours and tram tours are excellent for viewing

wildlife, including alligators and a multitude of tropical and temperate birds.

Everglades National Park became a World Heritage Site on October 26, 1979

Si pasáis por Miami, no os podéis perder uno de los parques más espectaculares

del mundo, el Parque Nacional de Everglades. Everglades se encuentra en el

extremo sur del estado de Florida, a 2 horas de Miami.

Este riquísimo parque nacional es en un mosaico subtropical que sorprende por

su diversidad y un refugio para 13 especies de animales amenazadas o en

peligro de extinción.

Ahí podréis admirar distintos ecosistemas así como manatíes, delfines,

cocodrilos, aves y tortugas.

En el Parque Nacional de Everglades, hay 19.840 hectáreas (80,3 km2) de

bosques de pinos que están protegidos, pero fuera del parque, las

1.780 acres (7,2 km2) de comunidades de pino se han mantenido como en

1990, en un promedio de 12,1 hectáreas (49.000 m2).

El Parque Nacional de Everglades está abierto todo el año. La temporada alta

de visitas va de Diciembre a Abril, mientras que la baja de Mayo a Noviembre.

Os recomendamos paseos y rutas en canoa, paseos en lancha y excursiones en

tranvía para observar la flora y la fauna, incluyendo los caimanes y una gran

variedad de aves tropicales y de zonas templadas.

El Parque Nacional Everglades fue proclamado Patrimonio de la Humanidad el

26 de Octubre de 1979..

After the amazing winter tour which has exported the name of Ibiza to different countries

such as Australia, Japan and Brazil, for the second consecutive year Space Ibiza will be

at the Ultra Music Festival Miami (March 25, 26 and 27, Miami) as part of a collaboration

agreement with this big festival of electronic music, one of the main and most honored

of the world.

During the second day of the festival Space will be represented by two of its most

representative resident DJs, Elio Riso and Camilo Franco, the winner of the Deejay mag

2010 for Best Ibiza resident DJ. They will be DJ’ing in the Room Society Dome, one of the

five different stages of this huge festival. They will share the booth with well-known artists

like Tim Green, Mowgli and Filthy Rich.

UMF was present at the three major events of Space Ibiza last season, which were the Opening party, its

anniversary and the Closing party. This summer we can enjoy the professionalism of its great team led by Russell

Faibisch (the winner of the International Dance Music Awards for Best International Dance Music Festival in the

last five editions), so used to sold out during the big events they organize all over the world.

en Ultra Music Festival Miami, como parte del acuerdo de colaboración con este gran

festival de música electrónica, uno de los mayores y más galardonados del mundo, que

este año se celebrará los días 25, 26 y 27 de Marzo en la ciudad de Miami.

El segundo día de festival Space tendrá una representación destacada mediante dos

de sus DJs residentes más representativos, Elio Riso y Camilo Franco, ganador del

Deejay mag 2010 al mejor DJ residente de Ibiza, los cuales actuarán dentro de uno de

los cinco diferentes escenarios de este Macro festival llamado Room Society Dome

donde compartirán cabina con nombres tan conocidos como Tim Green, Mowgli o

Filthy Rich.

UMF estuvo presente en los tres grandes acontecimientos de Space Ibiza en la temporada pasada, Opening

Fiesta, aniversario y Closing y esta temporada seguro que podremos disfrutar de la profesionalidad de este gran

Where are you from?: I’m from England

but these days I just feel like I’m from

earth.

Your relationship with the island: Since

the island is a huge consumer of sound

during the summer, it’s inevitable that the

relationship with the island will develop.

It’s always been try to bring the best

sound to the clubs.

As the creator, how would you describe

Funktion One?: It’s a designer and

manufacturer and inventor as well of ways

to reproduce big sound and doing it with a

purity and a clarity that displays the

proper respect for what people are

capable of perceiving.

Why do you think people choose Funktion

One instead of other sounds?: Well, we

like purity and clarity, you want it loud but

it mustn’t hurt. We try to get the power but

without damage. You have to be careful

and respectful.

The history of Function One has its roots

in another brand, Turbosound. What was

Turbosound?: It was not even my first

company, it was probably the forth one

but we got a great success in the 80s.

Which is the most important element to

achieve an excellent audio quality?: Well,

all the elements are important but I think

half of the story is in the space. The more

accurate and the more real the

reproduction, the further the

consciousness of the people can progress.

We know you worked with Pink Floyd.

How was the experience?: We were

involved with either sound system and

secondly with the surround sound. I didn’t

have any direct contact with the band but

they were concerned to be as sonically

interesting as possible.

Which famous clubs in Ibiza use your

sound systems?: Space and Privilege.

And what about radios?: Ibiza Global

Radio uses our sound system. We are very

happy about that.

It’s amazing to see you working. You have

a good crew in Ibiza: Yes, really good.

¿De dónde eres?: Soy de Inglaterra pero ahora

mismo me siento de la tierra.

Relación con la isla: La isla es un gran consumidor

de sonido durante el verano, es inevitable que se

desarrolle una relación con la isla. Yo siempre me

he esforzado para que los clubs tengan el mejor

sonido.

Como su creador, ¿cómo describirías Funktion

One?: Es una empresa que diseña, produce y

también inventa maneras de reproducir grandes

sonidos y lo hace con una pureza y claridad que

muestra el debido respeto por lo que las personas

son capaces de percibir.

¿Por qué crees que la gente elige Funktion One en

vez de otros sonidos?: Bueno, nos gusta la pureza

y la claridad, un sonido fuerte pero que no duela.

Intentamos conseguir algo potente pero que no

haga daño. Hay que tener cuidado y respeto.

La historia de Function One tiene sus raíces en otra

marca, Turbosound. ¿Qué era Turbosound?: Ni

siquiera fue mi primer empresa, creo que la cuarta,

aunque tuvimos un gran éxito en los años 80.

¿Cuál es el elemento más importante para lograr

una excelente calidad de audio?: A ver, todos los

elementos son importantes pero creo que la mitad

está en el espacio. Cuanto más precisa y real la

reproducción, más se puede desarrollar la

conciencia de la gente.

Sabemos que trabajaste con Pink Floyd. ¿Cómo

fue la experiencia?: Nos ocupábamos del sound

system y también del surround. No tuve contacto

directo con la banda aunque querían ser lo más

interesantes posible por lo que se refiere al sonido.

¿En Ibiza qué discotecas famosas usan vuestro

sound system?: Space y Privilege.

¿Y radios?: Ibiza Global Radio utiliza nuestro

sound system. Estamos muy contentos.
