2010 – 11 CALENDAR REMINDERSThe State Board of Education approved the new Social Studies TEKS

for final adoption on May 21, 2010. However, the OLD TEKS still guide our planning this year! Professional Development on NEW standards Spring / Summer 2011.

World Geography EOC piloted in AISD this Spring 2011 (officially implemented in 2012). World Geography teachers should attend today’s sessions preparing them for the EOC!

History Alive! Level One training provided by publisher TCI [Teachers’ Curriculum Institute] is scheduled for September 21 – 23 (T-Th) at the new PDC–Baker location!

Celebrate Freedom Week Sept 13 – Sept 17 Constitution Day!

Define rigor and develop rigorous lessons.

Describe forms of assessment and critical thinking that can be used in my classroom.

Norms and Expectations Check the program for the sessions you want to attend.

Bring your laptop computer to access session-related materials.

Be on time to each session and get your Attendance Sheet session stickers from each session’s presenter!

Listen and participate in each session, turning off cell phones, pagers and other electronic devices during the sessions.

Lunch is on your own. Don’t miss the “Freebies” table during lunchtime.

Stay until the end of today’s staff development, submitting your completed Teacher Information Sheet / Attendance Sheet as well as your Exit Slip form at day’s end.

Sign-in at tables in the foyer in the morning and again in the afternoon in order to receive full credit for today.

Austin ISD’s New Curriculum Documents

UBD—Understanding by Design; Grant Wiggins and Jay McTighe

Begin with the end in mind—the desired results (goals and standards)—

and then develop the curriculum based on the evidence of learning (performances) called for by the standard and the instruction needed to equip students to perform.

The newly designed district curriculum closely follows the work of Grant Wiggins and Jay McTighe (of UBD fame)

giving a clear workplan for our instruction.
