Plot/Summary for the Hobbit
MISE EN SCENE
Contents :• Lighting• Costume • performance
LIGHTING
• The lighting in this scene is quite dark and gloomy Peter Jackson uses lighting in a very special way it makes it unclear especially in fights who's going to be killed etc.
COSTUME
• In this scene the elf (Legolas) is wearing a drape showing his prestige within the elf clans he doesn’t have any armour like
bolg showing that he is also a very confident fighter and doesn’t need it, bolg in the other hand is a orc and he is made/breed to kill he has silver armour for shoulders metal for legs and a metal plate for his back and chest another piece of the
costume making him look even more frightful and dangerous is that he has a lot of things just poking out of him.
PERFORMANCE
•The way the characters act in this scene is very good bolg is the more aggressive character with the attributes and costume to fit him and Legolas is a lot more casual and graceful in the first part of the scene there is a troll Legolas casually jumps onto the troll and runs it into the tower which then forms a bridge where the fight begins this is showing that Legolas is a very skilled fighter and is very confident about beating bolg
which form mise en scene

CHARACTERContents : • Engagement • Revelation, Challenge and development • stereotypes • Representation
ENGAGEMENT
• During this scene I found as a viewer that I was very focused on how they fought and who was going to win
Legolas was the obvious pick but bolg proved that he was an equal match for Legolas, which then draws you in even
more.
REVELATION
• In this scene you could tell it was going to be a challenge for both of them more or less Legolas we saw what bolg
could do before and I was very unsure of what and how it was going to end through out the scene it got more and
more clouded of who was going to actually come out on top it sway between Legolas and bolg continuously which made
you more and more intrigued
STEREOTYPES
• There were some stereotypes in this scene such as Legolas being immortal compared to a stupid orc of
course who would you think would win but you could tell they were both beasts compared to each other this then made you forget about stereo types and made you
focus on the characters
REPRESENTATION
• The background and representation of the characters where very a like both were very loyal
and faithful towards there superior and both matched for strong opponents

SOUND
Contents :• music • Diegetic/non diegetic• aural bridge
MUSIC
• The music within this scene was very heroic and intense it was quite fast paced loud at some parts you could just here the music and clangs of sword clashing together at some parts when Legolas was winning the sound would
suddenly jump into faster paced music etc.
DIEGETIC/NON DIEGETIC
• There is more diegetic sound then non diegetic this is formed when the swords and armour clash together making that sound clang there are a few grunts from characters here and there but not really any voices of
characters
AURAL BRIDGE
• There are a few scenes with aural bridge In it especially as soon as the scene starts you can hear the bangs of the troll hitting his fists against the tower and when there are close ups on Legolas’s face you can still here the fighting going on
