Volunteers are Making a Difference at Hale Kula Elementary School

Volunteers from HHBN 25th ID (POC Captain Roderick Taylor) as well as school volunteers showed up bright and early on Saturday morning to beautify our campus.

Weston Solutions and DPW volunteers Weston Solutions, DPW, and SYNERGY generously donated the Aquapaving for our outdoor garden as well as tools, wheelbarrows, and compost kits. On Make a Difference Day, volunteers came to help put up a trellis in the fifth grade Hope Garden. They also provided lots of assistance and resources for the fourth grade Hawaiian Garden.

Thank you, Weston Solutions, for funding our projects!

During Fall Intersession, through a grant from Weston Solutions and collaboration with DPW and SYNERGY, we were able to have our outdoor garden Aquapaved. On October 13, 2012, Weston Solution volunteers helped with our fourth and fifth grade gardens.

The Hawaiian GardenThe fourth grade teachers with assistance from the volunteers were able to separate the three parts of the Hawaiian Garden – Native Hawaiian plants, Polynesian-introduced plants, and plants introduced later by immigrants or other visitors to Hawaii. Students will be able to research and learn more about the importance of these plants in the lives of the earlier Hawaiian people and realize the importance of sustainability and caring for our environment.

Fifth Grade Hope Garden

Volunteers worked to build a trellis for the Hope Garden. It is hoped that this will alleviate some of the dust and provide some shade when the plants grow enough to cover the area.
