MAKABAYAN

Makabayan was drafted and proposed by the senator RAUL ROCO who also became the department of education secretary.because of the lack of funds for the education sector, Roco and Deped decided to create solutions to provide the highest quality education within the available budget.

GOALS AND OBJECTIVES OF MAKABAYAN

Connect related subjects from the different learning areas.

Increase the time alloted for SCIENCE, ENGLISH, and MATHEMATICS.

Create multi-faceted basic education education.

Reduce congestion of subjects offered in basic education

Reduce the hiring of teachers if one is able to teach different learning areas.

Improve the positive outlook towards work to increase productivity and lead to a peaceful country

Increase each individual ability to cope in a fast and changing world.

Increase the importants of the arts, music, sports, dance, and the other aspects of philippine culture, and;

Develop nationalism among the filipinos and increase individual responsibility as citizen.

Curriculum in the Secondary level

GRADING SYSTEM AND SUBJECT CREDIT

Students earn four unit credits for Makabayan, Subjects are counted as one grades in the component with values education having a unit credit of 0.4 and the other component subjects having a unit credit of 1.2 each

SUBJECTS COMPONENTS

HEKASI stands for the combination of GEOGRAPHY, History, and Civics in the Department of Education Social studies curriculum. Re-labeled Makabayan, it clustered other subjects integrating them with Music, arts and Physical Education, and adding Livelihood, lessons, when secretary Raul Roco was DepEd.

FIFTH, Makabayan has the psychomotor objective of engaging the multiple intelligences of students

SIX, Makabayan has the cognitive objective of a acquinting students with way the human body works in the context of human society.

SEVEN, Makabayan has the Affective objective of socializing students in the context in their own generation

EIGHT, Makabayan is the content part of the BEC. For which filipino english math and science are tools.

NINE, Makabayan prepares students for the long term goal of life long learning and the short term goal of earning a livelihood.

FINALLY, Makabayan is the heart of BEC.

In Makabayan students learn about the world. In particular, they learn about their world which is first of all their local community, second their country, Thirdly the earth and Finally the universe inclubing the an scene part of it often called supernatural. Makabayan then is the logical culmination of the long tradition of human thought.

REFLECTION :

Makabayan is the subject in which students learns what the world is what life is all about how to live a life, and how to become a human. As the Filipino proverb goes it is easy to be born human, it is something else as a human.
