Dawn of the dead (2004)

This Extreme close up of a mouth with blood stained teeth, emphasises the importance of the mouth and foreshadows later events of the virus being spread through bites. Blood reveals the creature is no longer human and portrays an animalistic personality.

Bold red writing in upper case, red represents blood as it is a major aspect in the film due to it being a key code and convention of the horror genre. The fact the dead is larger than the rest of the font creates emphasis on the word thus conveying to the audience the creatures in the film aren’t living.

Shattering of the writing shows the destruction of humanity, due to it resembling blood. This image allows an enigma to be created for the audience as they are intrigued to discover who will become empowering, the dead or the living?

A Voice over of civilians questioning the virus conveys to audience that science and survival are underlining themes in the film.

Fast cut editing is used alongside pleonastic sound which has an effect of shock on the audience due to the unexpected sudden flash of images. This allows tension to be built up and represents the consistency of fast paced action sequences which will be present throughout the film, therefore securing action as a theme of the film.

As the sequence progresses the audience is filled in on key information about what has happened so far with the virus. This is done through the showing of images for example the virus bonding and multiplying and questions being asked by civilians which the audience themselves may be asking. therefore a greater desire to discover what will happen in the film is created.
