The proper installation of the radar equipment is critical in ensuing its effective and reliable performance as well as facilitating maintenance and repair. Therefore, carefully install the radar equipment by following the procedures below:

1) Install the scanner as high as possible while taking the scanner's weight into consideration. 2) It is preferable to install the display unit in the wheel house to facilitate observations. 3) The standard cable length for installing the radar JMA-5300 is as shown in the table below. If there

is a need for using a cable longer than the standard length, notify JRC of it beforehand. A cable longer than the standard length may hider performance of the radar, so give it careful consideration when planning the installation. (The standard cable length is considered to be sufficient for small and middle size ships for which this radar is designed.)

2 2.1 SELECTING THE INSTALLATION

POSITION Select the scanner installation position by taking into consideration the following:

1) Determine how high the scanner can be installed on the hull by taking the scanner's weight into consideration.

2) The scanner installation height has a direct relation to the maximum detectable range. The higher the

scanner is located, the wider the detectable range becomes. However, if it is too high, at positions higher than the vertical beam width (-3 dB point), the energy of radio waves significantly attenuates, thus making it difficult to acquire a target located at close range. Additionally, the scanner is greatly affected by sea clutter. Therefore, install the scanner according to its weight, maximum cable length and maintenance.

For relationships between the scanner installation height and the maximum detectable range, refer to "Radar Wave with the Horizon" in section 6.1 of the instruction manual.

3) If the width of the radiation beam in the vertical direction is set at 2θ degrees (i.e. most radiation energy

centralizes within this angle), the energy of radio waves is very weak in directions beyond 2θ degrees. If a scanner position is too high, it is difficult to acquire a small target located at close range. Yet, if the scanner's position is low, it is difficult to acquire a distant target, and the ship's mast, derrick, and chimney obstruct radiation beams, thereby reducing the radar's effective range. Generally, the lowest position for installing a scanner is considered to be the AB line in Fig.2.1. In the radar JMA-5310/5320, 2θ is 20 degrees, and in the radar JMA-5330, 2θ is 30 degrees. A scanner position is usually determined at a high enough level so that the chimney and the shrine-gate type mast are out of the range where radiation beams are radiated.

4) A scanner's plane position is generally determined so that the shadow of the radio wave due to the mast does not overlap with the fore-and-aft line. If there is no large obstacle ahead, the scanner is usually installed on the fore-and-aft line on the wheel house.

5) Avoid the installation of a bearing finder VHF antenna near the scanner, because this causes noise in the

radio equipment and a trouble with radiated radio waves. 6) If the scanner's radiation plane is contaminated by smoke and soot from the chimney, the radar's

performance will decrease. Therefore, consider ease of maintenance when determining the scanner's position and the structure of the mast and the tower.

7) If the halyard for the signal flag is located in the vicinity of the scanner, wind may cause the flag or halyard

to wind around the scanner's radiator, resulting in failures. So, carefully consider the location before installing the scanner.

8) Since the derrick post has a great amount of vibration, it is not suitable as a location for the scanner

installation. 9) Taking into consideration the swing circle (d), keep a sufficient distance between the scanner and other

installed object (e.g. mast or radio antenna) so that there is d/2 + 200 mm or more from the scanner's rotation center.

The swing circle of the scanner for the radar JMA-5300 is as shown in Table.2.

2 2.2 INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

1) Trestle Install the trestle by referring to the outside drawing of the scanner (Figs 1, 2, 3 and 4). Install it such that

the bottom surface of the scanner is parallel to the water surface and the cable grand is oriented toward the stern. If installation height does not seem to be sufficient when the scanner is directly installed on the roof of the wheel house, install the trestle or the radar mast. Usually, when the scanner installation height is 2 meters or less above the roof of the wheel house, install the trestle assembled with angle joints. When the scanner installation height is more than 2 meters above the roof of the wheel house, install the cylindrical radar mast. Mount the proper footing to the trestle and the radar mast, considering convenience of installation, maintenance, adjustment and repair of the scanner (see Fig. 2.2).

Fig.2.2 Trestle for the scanner 2) How to hoist the scanner Apply felt to the location around which the hoisting rope is wound and then hoist the scanner according to

the procedures shown in Fig.2.3. If the location around which the hoisting rope is wound is not protected with felt or if the scanner is hoisted at locations near both ends of the radiator, the scanner may be damaged. So, pay careful attention to protecting the scanner.

3) Paint After having installed the scanner, apply sufficient paint to the cabinet mounting legs, mounting bolts and

nuts to prevent rust. 4) Magnetism The scanner contains highly magnetic magnetron. Therefore, install the scanner 3 meters or more from

navigation instruments, such as magnetic compass and chronometer.

3.1 SELECTING THE INSTALLATION POSITION

Select a display unit installation position by taking into consideration the following:

1) Install the display unit so that the user can easily conduct observations. 2) To reduce effect on the magnetic compass, install the display unit more than one meter away from the

compass. 3) Take precautions to prevent water from splashing through the window or door of the bridge onto the

display unit. 4) Install the display unit by considering convenience of maintenance. If the display unit is adjacent to machinery or walls on the right, left, above or behind, allow enough slack

in the installation cable so that the display unit can be pulled forward for maintenance and inspection.

3.2 INSTALLATION OF THE DISPLAY UNIT

1) Installation of the display Install the display by taking into consideration the following:

<1> Install the display in a convenient location so that when the user is facing the bow the user can

observe the LCD panel to find the target direction. <2> Select locations where there is least vibration. <3> It is necessary to allow space for a bend in the installation cable at the rear of the equipment.

2) Connecting the display to the processing unit The display and the processing unit are connected with three cables. (One cable for the RGB signal, one

cable for power supply and one cable for fan alarm signal.) Those cables and the display are integrated.

<1> Connect the D-sub15 PIN cable, extending from the display (NWZ-147), to the connector for which

"VIDEO" is engraved at the rear of the processing unit cabinet. Turn the control attached to the connector until it cannot be turned any further.

<2> Connect the 3 PIN cable, extending from the display, to the connector for which "VIDEO DC OUT"

is engraved at the rear of the processing unit cabinet. Turn the plug attached to the connector until it cannot be turned any further.

To the keyboard unit

3.3 INSTALLATION OF THE KEYBOARD UNIT

1) Installation of the keyboard unit The keyboard unit can be installed at any place as far as it is located within 5 meters from the processing

unit. 2) Connecting the keyboard unit to the processing unit The keyboard unit is connected to the processing unit with one cable. The cable is integrated into the

keyboard unit. Connect the cable extending from the keyboard unit to the connector for which "KEY BOARD" is engraved at the rear of the processing unit cabinet. Turn the plug attached to the connector until it cannot be turned any further.

3.4 INSTALLATION OF THE POWER CABLE (CFQ-6911)

This radar equipment comes with 5-m-long cables with a connector.

1) Processing cables Process a cable without the Model CFQ-6911 connector, as shown in the figure.

positive (+) side of the ship's mains, black cables to the negative (-) side of the ship's mains, and ground the shield to the hull.

3.5 INSTALLATION OF THE CABLE (CFQ-6911) BETWEEN THE PROCESSING UNIT AND THE SCANNER

The cable CFQ-6912 is used to connect the processing unit to the scanner. For this radar equipment, use the following cables having a connector.

Although a cable is not connected to PIN No.8, +12 V voltage is outputted to the processing unit side. Power for the external simulator is supplied by this +12 V power supply outlet. So, avoid using this connection for other purposes to prevent short-circuits.

3.6 CONNECTING TO THE GPS RECEIVER

1) When using JRC's GPS receiver When using JRC's GPS receiver, such as GPS100/DGPS212, directly connect the GPS receiver to the

connector for which "GPS" is engraved at the rear of the processing unit cabinet. Turn the plug attached to the connector until it cannot be turned any further.

2) When using other maker's GPS receiver or an NMEA data output device When receiving NMEA data from JRC's NMEA data output device other than ones mentioned above or

other maker's GPS receiver, remove the processing unit cabinet cover, and connect the signal line to the terminals located on the terminal board as shown in the following table:

3) Set the GPS communication port as shown following procedure. 1) Press and hold [RADAR MENU] key.

The Ten-Key Pad screen will appear.

2) Enter [0] and press the [ENT] key. The Adjust Menu will appear.

3) Press [1] key. Press [6] key.

The Nav Setting Menu will appear.

4) Press [1] key. Select the NAV Equipment. INT GPS: Connect to the connector at the rear of the processing unit cabinet

Connect the CFQ-6934 5 PIN connector having the GPS (IND) label.

Connect the CFQ-6934 8 PIN connector having the NSK (IND) label.

3.7 CONNECTING TO THE GPS COMPASS (JLR-10)

Connection to JRC's GPS compass JLR-10 is possible.

1) When using JRC's cable CFQ-6934 Using JRC's dedicated cable CFQ-6934 makes it possible to easily connect to JLR-10. Using the cable

also makes it possible to receive bearing signals from JLR-10 as well as receive latitude and longitude information as NMEA data.

To obtain NMEA data, such as position information, from JRC's or other maker's GPS device by obtaining bearing data from JLR-10, make connections to the GPS device in the procedures described in section 3.6 instead of using the cable having the above-mentioned "GPS (IND)" label that is extending from JLR-10.

2) Procedure for not using a dedicated cable When receiving bearing information data from the GPS compass, remove the processing unit cabinet cover,

and connect the signal line to the terminals located on the terminal board as shown in the following table:

When the above terminal is used, select the “CMPS" for the heading sensor and set the output of JLR-10 to NMEA0183.

The above-mentioned connections are available only for receiving bearing data from JLR-10. About how to receive position information, refer to section 3.6.

Any electromagnetic compass having an NMEA0183 output terminal can input bearing information into

the radar display unit. (An electromagnetic compass having no NMEA0183 output terminal cannot be connected.)

To connect an electromagnetic compass, remove the processing unit cabinet cover, and connect the signal

line to the terminals located on the terminal board as shown in the following table:

Purchase of the optional NSK unit NCT-59 enables the connection to the gyro and electromagnetic log. Although the NSK unit has been properly adjusted before shipment, be sure to conduct the following setting and adjustment after installing the unit.

1) Setting and adjusting the NSK unit The NSK unit of the radar equipment is designed to be compatible with almost all types of gyro compass

by switch operation (24 VDC to 100 VDC for the step-motor type, and for the synchro-motor type, the primary excitation voltage is 50 VAC to 115 VAC). Before turning on the power, be sure to set switches S1, S2, S5 and jumper JP1 on the NSK circuit (PC4201) according to the type of the gyro compass by referring to the procedure described below. Normally before shipment, the NSK circuit's gyro select switch has been adjusted such that the gyration ratio is 360X and it is compatible with the synchro-type gyro compass. Check the type of the gyro compass used in own ship and make settings according to the procedures below:

<1> Set the switches of the NSK unit (PC4201) before turning on the radar equipment.

S1: [OFF] S2: The output of the gyro compass is either step signal or synchro signal. Carefully check own

ship's gyro compass, and adjust settings for S2.

Speed log switch setting

1. This radar's compatible standard speed logs are the following eight types: Pulse type: 800 pulses/NM, 400 pulses/NM, 200 pulses/NM, 100 pulses/NM Synchro type: 360X/NM, 180X/NM, 90X/NM, 30X/NM Set the S5(<11>) GYRO/LOG select switch according to the S5 setting table.

2. Connect the speed log signal input line to TB20(<7>). To do so, for the pulse type, connect the line to the

PULSE side and, for the synchro type, connect the line to the SYNC side. With respect to the positive (+) and negative (-) sides, when the pulse type is selected, the negative (-) side is the ground.

4. S6(<8>) log test switch 18KT is displayed at the TEST

position. Normally, select NORMAL.

3. S5(<11>) GYRO/LOG selector switch Make settings according to the S5 setting table.

5. The CD22 light emitting diode is provided for confirming pulse-type log input signal. The LED lights when the log signal is +2 V or more (and disconnection), and it does not light when the log signal is less than +2 V.

(5) Connect the J4201 side of the cable (H-7ZCRD0907) attached to the NSK unit to the NSK unit’s

connector P4201. (6) Connect the J4111 side of the cable (H-7ZCRD0907) attached to the NSK unit to the I/F board’s

connector P4111.

(7) Attach the processing unit cabinet cover and complete the installation of the NSK unit.

3.9 CONNECTING TO THE PC PLOTTER

This radar can output NMEA0183 data to the PC plotter. Connect one end of the commercially-available 9 PIN RS-232C cross cable to the connector for which "NMEA" is engraved at the rear of the processing unit cabinet, and connect the other end to the COM port of the PC plotter.

4.7 SETTING THE MAIN BANG SUPPRESSION

This setting is intended for suppressing the main bang which is an echo signal from a cubic circuit, such as waveguide, normally appearing as a circular echo at the center of the radar video. Make optimum setting so that the main bang remains weak on the video.

Procedures 1 Set the radar range scale

to the minimum value 0.125 NM, and turn OFF PROC, ENH and FUNC, and set the system to the Transmit mode.

2 Adjust the operation controls as

follows: Sensitivity: Maximum Sea clutter: Middle (MANUAL) Rain/Snow clutter: Minimum (MANUAL)

3 Press and hold [RADAR MENU]

Make settings for JRC's WAAS receiver. The WAAS receiver can receive information that is similar to that of the DGPS's beacon station from the satellite and can conduct position fixing more accurate than the GPS.

Radar equipment adopt a variety of pulse circuits. Those circuits or inter-unit cables emit higher harmonic components of the pulse wave as electromagnetic waves, and those components affect the radio communication equipment's receiving antenna and cables, resulting in receiver noise. The following general procedures are effective in preventing noise interference:

5.1 SHIELDS OF DEVICES The components on the radar have springs or other fittings attached at spots required for shielding them. This spring needs to have sufficient electrical contact to prevent each device from emitting noise. Pay careful attention during installation. Make sure that screws for the device cover, door, etc. are tightly fastened.

5.2 INTER-UNIT CABLES

Be sure to use designated cable between the units. Pay careful attention to cable connections and the treating condition of cable ends (especially, shield meshwork).

5.3 INSTALLATION LOCATION

Although devices have been sufficiently shielded, the shielding of some may not be perfect. For example, the display unit's LCD panel surface and the processing unit's fuse holder emit a slight amount of noise. Therefore, do not position receiving equipment's scanner cable near those devices. Furthermore, a shielded cable might cause noise, so, do not route such a cable in parallel with a scanner cable.

5.4 GROUNDING

Although situations change according to the hull structure and the positional relationships between radio equipment and radar equipment, the procedures below may not be entirely effective. But, ground each device to the closest ground location on the hull, and also, ground the concerned radio equipment to the closest ground location.

6.1 INSPECTION AFTER INSTALLATION After installation has been completed, it is necessary to inspect whether all of the procedures have been done properly. Specifically, inspect whether cable connections are correct, each device has been mounted securely, water has not leaked onto the scanner (fastening of cable grand, cover, etc.), and whether the cable's shield meshwork has been properly installed.

6.2 OPERATION INSPECTION After confirming that the equipment has been properly installed, carefully read the instruction manual and be fully aware of the operation procedures before inspecting radar operations. Make sure that the ship's mains' voltage is within the allowable range and then operate the radar according to the instruction manual. Then, make sure that there are no abnormalities, and operate all of the functions to check that they operate normally. If, for some reason, the monitor, PCB, or unit needs to be replaced, refer to the attached procedures for removing those devices. After the replacement has been completed, make sure that screws have been tightly fastened and all of the connectors have been connected, and then turn on the power and conduct inspection.
