Jehovah Nakah

Amos 5:15 Hate the evil, and love the good, and establish judgment in

the gate: it may be that the LORD God of hosts

will be gracious unto the remnant of Joseph.

God hates sin because He is holy

Ezekiel 7:1-9

The word “smiteth” means to slay,

strike, or to kill.

I. Jehovah-Nakah reveals God’s severity and

judgement upon sin.

Eph 4:26 Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the

sun go down upon your wrath:

Isaiah 1:4 Ah sinful nation, a people laden with iniquity, a

seed of evildoers, children that are corrupters: they have

forsaken the LORD, they have provoked the Holy One of Israel unto anger, they are gone away

backward.

anger

I Kings 14:15

C. Israel was smitten for not harkening to the

voice of God

II. Jehovah-Nakah never smites until his mercy and longsuffering are

exhausted

A. God will judge but He is patient and

longsuffering with man

2 Peter 3:8-11

B. God will not always tolerate man’s

wickedness

Gen 6:3 And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an

hundred and twenty years.

Gen 6:12 And God looked upon the earth,

and, behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted his way upon

the earth.

Gen 6:13 And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence through them;

and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth.

C. God smote the Egyptians because of Pharoah’s stubborn

heart

Exo 3:20 And I will stretch out my hand, and smite Egypt with all my wonders which I will do

in the midst thereof: and after that he will let you

go.

III. Jehovah-Nakah is to be greatly feared by

those who walk contrary to His word

A. The Lord chastises His people for their own

good

Hebrews 12:6-11

B. He does not chastise the unsaved when His

longsuffering is exhausted but rather

punishes

Ephesians 1:7-9

Rev 19:15 And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of

iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and

wrath of Almighty God.

God chastises His people, but punishes the

unsaved.

Micah 7:18 Who is a God like unto thee, that pardoneth

iniquity, and passeth by the transgression of the remnant of

his heritage? he retaineth not his anger for ever, because he

delighteth in mercy.
