Tannahill.This hospital contains 24 beds. The number of womendelivered in connexion with the hospital exceeds 1000

annually. Clinical instruction is given by the attendingphysician three days in the week. On Saturday the studentsread reports of, and are examined on, out-door cases whichthey have attended during the week. Fee for six months’attendance, including certificate, =61 Is. Gratuitous adviceto the poor, on Diseases of Women and Children only, isgiven at the Dispensary, every Tuesday and Friday, atthree o’clock P.M. All students of the hospital have theprivilege of attending the dispensary. Dispensing Phy-sicians and Out-door Accoucheurs: Drs. John Burns, R. T.Paton, George Miller and Hugh Miller.

QUEEN’S COLLEGE, CORK.-The lectures will commenceon the 2nd of November. Eight scholarships will be awardedto students in Medicine, if qualified. Two junior scholar-ships, of £25 each, to students commencing their first,second, third, and fourth years. Clinical Medicine and Sur-

gery at the North and South Infirmaries, and Clinical Mid-wifery at the Lying-in Hospital.QUEEN’S COLLEGE, BELFAST.-Fees: Anatomy and Phy-

siology, first course, £3 ; each subsequent course, £2. Ana-tomical Demonstrations and Practical Anatomy : eachcourse, .83. Practical Chemistry, £3. Other Medical Lec-tures : first course, £2; each subsequent course, £1.

QUEEN’S COLLEGE, GALWAY.-By a recent regulation ofthe Council, all scholarships and exhibitions of the second,third, and fourth years may now be competed for by stu-dents who have attained the requisite standing in anymedi-cal school recognised by the Senate of the Queen’s Univer-sity, and have passed the Matriculation Examination in the

College. At the ensuing examination, eight scholarships,of the value of £25 each, will be offered for competition-viz., two to students of the first, second, third, and fourthyears respectively. In addition, four exhibitions of .610each will be offered ; two to students of the first and secondyears respectively ; and two exhibitions of =620 each-oneto students of the third and fourth years respectively. Allscholars are exempt from payment of a moiety of the feesfor the classes attended.

DUBLIN CATHOLIC UNIVERSITY.-The Lectures delivered inthis School are fully recognised and received by the Univer-sities and all other licensing bodies in the United Kingdom.A Connolly Exhibition (value £20) will be offered for com-petition at the termination of the winter session, in thecombined subjects of Physiology, Physiological Anatomy,Chemistry, and Botany: also a Gold Medal of the value of£7, in Surgery, Practice of Medicine, and Midwifery (in-cluding female and infantile diseases.) The usual classprizes will also be given.

The summer session, 1870, comprising operations inPractical Chemistry, and Lectures on Materia Medica, Me-dical Jurisprudence, Pathology, Botany, Natural Philoso-phy, and Logic, will commence on the 15th April, and ter-minate on the 18th July, when class Prizes will be awardedin each subject, and a University Exhibition of the value of=620 in Practical Chemistry, Materia Medica, and MedicalJurisprudence combined.

North Brunswick-street, Dublin.-These hospitals contain312 beds, and have attached to them the Truss Establish-ment for the relief of the ruptured poor of Ireland. In theexamination of the applicants for trusses, the student isa,fforded the facility of not only seeing all the varieties ofhernia, but of acquiring a knowledge of the several dis-eases that may be confounded therewith. There is an ex-tensive pathological museum, containing above 4000 draw-ings, casts, and preparations, with the history of each caserecorded. There is also a well-selected medical and sur-

gical lending library. Two clinical lectures are delivered ineach week, in addition to the usual bedside clinical instruc-tion which is given daily by the physicians and surgeons.Practical Pharmacy is taught under the superintendence of’the apothecary of the hospitals. Eight resident clinicalclerks and the dressers are selected each half-year from.among the best qualified of the pupils, without the paymentof any additional fee. Eight interns will be appointed onthe 1st of November, and provided with furnished apart-ments, fuel, &c. At the termination of the session, pre-miums will be awarded in clinical medicine and surgery.The Richmond Institution for the Insane adjoins these hos-pitals, affording every facility for the study of mental dis-eases.

DR. STEEVENS’s HOSPITAL AND MEDICAL COLLEGE.-Ope-rations on Saturdays, at ten. Six months’ attendance,.seven guineas; nine months’, nine guineas. Lectures and

Hospital Practice, College and Hall, seventy-five guineas,in two instalments. The hospital contains 250 beds.

LEDWICH SCHOOL OF ANATOMY, Peter-street, Dublin.-A Course of Operations, to be performed by the student,under the superintendence of the lecturers (subjects, &c.,included), £5 5s.Fee for each course of lectures, £3 3s.Endowments in favour of students, subject to the condi-

tions prescribed by the Founder, in the following depart-ments :-Two in Anatomy and Physiology ; two in MinuteAnatomy; two in Practical Anatomy, and one in Surgery.The usual prizes in the other departments will be awardedat the termination of the session.

COOMBE LYING-IN HOSPITAL, DUBLIN.-40 beds. TheRoyal Charter of Incorporation, which was granted to thisinstitution in 1867, empowers the Masters to grant diplomasto the pupils attending the practice of the hospital,when in all other respects qualified in accordance withthe bye-laws of the hospital, and further provides thatcertificates issued antecedent to its grant shall havethe same force, and be of the same effect, as thoseissued in accordance with it, and after its date. The nuin-ber of patients annually admitted into the Labour Wardsamounts to nearly 600, whilst those attended at theirown homes from the hospital amount to nearly 1000. A

large number of patients suffering under the diseasespeculiar to women are admitted into the Chronic Wardappropriated to that class of cases; whereby the pupilshave abundant opportunity of studying the treatment-operative and otherwise-essential for such cases. Thereis connected with the institution a Dispensary for theDiseases of Women and Children, Diseases of the Eye, andGeneral Diseases, where the pupils have every opportunityof performing the minor operations in surgery, and of

attaining a knowledge of Practical Pharmacy. The Museumcomprises a large number of most valuable pathologicalpreparations, many admirable wax and plaster casts, and agood collection of instruments. A registry of cases is keptby the clinical clerks, who are selected each half year fromamongst the most attentive pupils, to whom distinct certifl-,cates are given. At the termination of each session, prizesare given-in accordance with defined rules on the subject--to the best answerers in Practical Midwifery and the Diseasesof Women. At the expiration of not less than six monthsfrom their enrolment on the registrar’s list, the pupils, if inall respects otherwise qualified, are eligible to be examinedfor the diploma of the hospital.BELFAST GENERAL HOSPITAL.-Fees for Clinical instruc-

tion : first year, £4. 4s. ; second year, £3 3s.; third year,£2 2s. ; for two years, in advance, .86 6s. Hospital fee, £ 1 1s.per annum. This hospital being the only one for the recep-tion of accident and other surgical cases occurring in thelarge manufacturing town and seaport of Belfast, affords.unusual facilities for acquiring a knowledge of PracticalSurgery. Three resident pupils are appointed by exami-nation.

BELFAST LYING-IN HOSPITAL.-Fee for the session, £3 3s.

MEATH HOSPITAL AND COUNTY DUBLIN INFIRMARY.-Four Prizes will be given at the termination of the wintercourse to the best answerers in their respective classes.In addition to the above, a fifth prize (value four guineas)has been presented by Dr. Martin, of Portlaw, for the bestanswering in the junior surgical class. The office of resi-dent pupil is open to pupils as well as apprentices.

This Society was formed at the commencement of thepresent year, and already numbers 150 members.

All Graduates and Undergraduates of the London Uni-versity, and all past or present students of the recognisedLondon hospitals, as well as the other metropolitan col-leges, &c., affiliated to the London University,,are eligibleas members of the Society, which at present meets once amonth, from October to June, for debate ; hut it is intendedas it gains strength, to develop it into a real LondonStudents’ Club, somewhat after the model of the Oxford andCambridge Unions, so that it may include not merely adebating society, but a library and reading-room, andcricket, football, athletic, and boat clubs.The Society meets at present at King’s and University

Colleges alternately, but has reason to believe that a roomin the new London University buildings will shortly be al-lotted to it.
