General Setting
1) To use the arc flash calculator, the user needs to enable the macro setting.2) To enable the macro setting, open a blank MS Excel. (a) MS Excel 2003 - Tools --> Macro --> Security… --> Security Level --> Low (b) MS Excel 2007 - Office Start Button --> Excel Options --> Trust Center --> Trust Center Settings --> Macro Settings --> Enable All Macros3) Close the blank MS Excel.4) User only needs to perform the above steps during the first attempt.5) Click the file to run the arc flash calculator. User will be prompted with a Pop-Up Window, named "IEEE 1584 Based Arc Flash Calculator". (Figure 1)
Instructions
1) Click the file to run the arc flash calculator. User will be prompted with a Pop-Up Window, named "IEEE 1584 Based Arc Flash Calculator". (Figure 1)
a) User can key-in the required information:-(i) User Name(ii) Department(iii) LSD(iv) Equipment Tag
b) The file name will generate automatically in the format "LSD_Equipment Tag"
c) If the user needs any assistance to use this page, then the user can click the "Help" button. On the help page, click the "Close Print Preview" button at top right to return to "IEEE 1584 Based Arc Flash Calculator" page.
d) Click the "Exit" button to exit the calculator.
e) Click the "Start" button for arc flash calculation (Figure 2).
f) For the subsequent page, if the user needs any assistance then Figure 1: IEEE 1584 Based Arc Flash Calculator the user can click the "Help" button placed at the top left hand
corner on the page.

2) User will be prompted with a new Pop-Up Window, named "TRANSFORMER NAMEPLATE DATA". (Figure 2)
a) If the user needs any assistance to use this page, then the user can click the "Help" button placed at the top left corner on the page. On the help page, click "Close Print Preview" button at top right to return to "TRANSFORMER NAMEPLATE DATA" page.
b) User can click the "IEEE 1584 ASSUMPTIONS" button to know theIEEE 1584 standard assumptions.
c) User can click the "?" symbol to find out the range of the value for the following input data:(i) Secondary Voltage of the Transformer(ii) % Impedance of the Transformer(iii) Transformer Capacity(iv) Protective Device Clearing Time

d) User must key-in all the required informations:-(i) Secondary Voltage of the Transformer in V(ii) % Impedance of the Transformer in %(iii) Transformer Capacitive in kVA(iv) Protective Device Clearing Time in s
e) Equipment tag will be set automatically as the user has already keyed-in the equipment tag at the opening screen.
f) User must select one only of the equipment and grounding systems.
g) The user must click the "CALCULATE" button after keying in all the required informations as mentioned in (d).
h) The user will be prompted with the following question when the user will click the "CALCULATE" button: 1) Do you want to key-in your working distance?
i) If the user has any specific value for working distance, then the user must click the "Yes" button on the pop-up window.
j) When the user will click the "Yes" button,a pop-up window will appear enabling the user to key-in the value for working distance in inches.
k) If the user click the "No" button, then the calculator will use the default value of the working distance for the selected equipment and the voltage class of equipment as per IEEE 1584.
3) The Arc Flash results will be shown in the new pop-up window, named "ARC FLASH RESULTS". (Figure 3)
a) If the user needs any assistance to use this page, then the user can click the "Help" button placed at the top left corner. On the help page, click "Close Print Preview" button at top right to return to "ARC FLASH RESULTS" page.
b) The following Arc Flash results will be displayed:-(i) Bolted Fault Current in kA(ii) Arcing Current in kA(iii) Arc Flash Protection Boundary in ft
(iv)(v) Hazard / Risk Category Level of Arc Flash PPE
c) User can click the "Recalculate" button, to return to "TRANSFORMER NAMEPLATE DATA" page to recalculate.
d) User can print the summary of result sheet (Figure 4) by clicking the "Print Result" button
e) User can save the summary of result sheet (Figure 4) by clicking the "Save Result" button. The file will be saved in the

f) User can exit this page by clicking the "Main Page" button, to return to "IEEE 1584 Based Arc Flash Calculator" main page.
