Important information for customers with existing BladeCenter E chassis: The BladeCenter E chassis has been refreshed with a new 2320W power supply model. There is an upgrade kit for customers with existing chassis. If using a chassis with 2320W PS, there are no limitations. If using the existing 2000W PS, support will vary depending on the exact number of blades and processor configurations you choose.

HX5 is not supported on the BladeCenter E chassis. Use the BladeCenter H chassis instead.

Upgrading to 2980W PSUs: Installation Guideline

To Upgrade an old BladeCenter H With 4 x 2980W Power Supplies, order two sets of option PN 68Y6601 (qty = 2)

AMM is required to install 2980W power supplies, with latest AMM code

Upgrading power supplies with Chassis off

– Shutdown blade servers & chassis

– Install 2980W PSUs

– Reconnect & restart BladeCenter H chassis

Upgrading Power Supplies While Chassis Is Running – NOT supported

Recommend to upgrade ALL power supplies to high-efficiency 2980W

– Having both 2900W and 2980W PSU pair is supported, provided they are in separate power domains

AMM Is Required To Install enhanced blowers, with latest firmware

Upgrading Power Supplies While Chassis Is Running

– Blowers Must Be Replaced One At A Time

– Order Of Replacement Does Not Matter

– AMM Will Complain About Mismatch During Upgrade But Blades and Switches Will Operate As Normal

– AMM May Need To Be Reset If AMM Status Does Not Return To Normal After Upgrade Is Completed

– All blowers in a chassis must be of the same type
