Holly is the ultimate material girl; like Madonna constantly reinventing herself.

WHEN DID YOu FIRSt VISIt tHE REGAL CINEMA?I have a vague memory of my Mum taking me a few times when I was little. Once when we tried to see bambie (I was very young) and it had sold out - I remember Irene turning a lot of us away at the steps, and then again when I was a bit older to watch ghostbusters 2 - what a classic 80s film!

HOW DOES It DIFFER FROM PROjECtS tHAt YOu HAVE WORKED ON IN tHE PASt?being the graphic designer for the regal is incredibly rewarding. Having been part of the restoration process from the beginning and seeing the development over the last few years to now when we’re showing big blockbusters on release - there’s a lot more personal satisfaction that comes from knowing you helped do that.

WHAt IS tHE MOSt CHALLENGING ASPECt OF YOuR ROLE?Trying not to get distracted when designing the programme by watching trailers for the upcoming films I want to see.

WHAt DO YOu LIKE BESt ABOut tHE NEW AND IMPROVED REGAL CINEMA?The fact that it’s open! Ha. Erm… just that it makes Port street feel like a hub of activity again. I’m always peering in as I drive past (watch out pedestrians).

WHAt IS YOuR FAVOuRItE FILM?That’s a tough one. I usually always have a top five. I love: amelie, lord of the rings, The Prestige, WallE, The royal Tenebaums, The goonies, The dark knight, Mary Poppins (yes really)... That’s more than five isn’t it?

Russell’s grandfather Maurice Berry was once chief projectionist at the Regal and often talked fondly about his time there. Sadly Maurice passed away in 2006, but he would have loved to have seen the old building open again. Russell now runs a design venture in Bristol that produces all the cinema’s graphics. www.hancockdesign.co.uk

Les Misérables tells the tale of ex-prisoner Valjean (Jackman), a shell of a man hunted for decades by ruthless policeman Javert (Crowe) after he breaks parole. When Valjean agrees to care for Cossette, the dying Fantine’s (Hathaway) infant daughter, he finds a purpose for his wretched existence and the chance to atone for his sins.

As a faithful rendering of a justly beloved musical, “Les Misérables” will more than satisfy the show’s legions of fans. The squalor and upheaval of early 19th-century France are conveyed with a vividness that would have made Victor Hugo proud, heightened by the raw, hungry intensity of the actors’ live vocals.

Intense, demanding yet infinitely rewarding: this is cinema at its best.
