What is Active Participation?
• To consistently engage the minds of all learners with that which is to be learned.
• To occupy the attention or efforts of a person or persons
Why is Active Participation Important?
• It requires more involvement of the brain
• Provides teachers the opportunity to assess the learning.
How Can We Promote Active Participation?
• Eyes on speaker• Provide students with a prompt prior to
partner talk• Allow THINK time• Drop and listen• Call on individuals to share• Confirm responses• Limit teacher talk• Give more turns (This is what it is all
about)
